Seems like MP3 hoarding to me.
>>74610304
Storage is cheap, why the fuck not? I currently have almost 68 days worth of music with over 17350 files, I just go through phases listening to some stuff at a time.

>>74610371
So? First, a lot of these early MP3s were 128kbps or even shittier. Second, all of it is available online today without much hassle. Third, you probably don't listen to over 90% of it now.

>>74610613
>Sounds like forcing yourself to like something you don't like.
I won't lie, the first few times I listened to Obscura, I hated it. I thought they had somehow made it intentionally sound as bad as possible. Figuring out what they were trying to do was very rewarding imo.
>>74610654
Yeah, pot calling kettle black.
I never cared about having a library because I get tired of most stuff eventually. Had it once, don't miss 99% of it. The remaining 1% is on my hard drive now.

I went into this thinking it would be generic, but it's kind of a cool take on Beherit-esque metal. It's got a unique production style I have only heard on Beherit's Messe Des Morts and it's also got really cool parts where the bass is playing the riff while the electric does guitar leads but those guitar leads are very fitting to the record. Perhaps the closest thing to atmoshit a non-atmoshit person might enjoy.

It's called orthodox black metal because of its lyrics which focus entirely on theistic satanism (or "orthodox" satanism) and they share a common aesthetic both in terms of cover art, prose and well-but-not-overtly-produced black metal which incorporates a lot of elements from death metal and doom, instead of being a mere continuation of the 2nd wave
You can do without a lot of those albums in the chart, though. It's pretty shit

You somewhat got it.
The Swedish style, which is the original form of orthodox, is actually extremely 2nd wave, and is pretty much De Mysteriis worship, with critical points being releases like Ofermod's Mysterion Tes Anomias in 1998.
There are more black/death orthodox type bands, like say the newest Temple of Baal, but death metal influence is not really a key point to orthodox.
>>74615156
You have so much shit for brains that it's seeping out through your ears
>>74615139
This isn't a very good album. Contrived, boring tripe.
>>74615105
You're right, orthodox as a whole is not defined by its dissonance, that's why I separated it from the earlier Swedish style. The dissonance Deathspell Omega capitalized on during the Prayers is in fact a critical part of many, many orthodox bands, and is an important part to all the releases on that Dissonant/Modern side.

Including or excluding soulside journey?
>>74615554
Oh sorry, excluding.
Soulside is an extremely good album, though
IF YOU DON'T LIKE MANOWAR IT MEANS YOU ARE AFRAID
AFRAID OF YOURSELVES
AFRAID OF MANOWAR
YOU MOTHERFUCKERS
>>74615571
Yeah, i thought so. I agree. Took me a long time to get into "Under a funeral moon" but now it's my favorite.
>>74615509
The albums are well worth listening to if you like them. The links were mainly to point out the usage of the very dissonant arpeggios which Deathspell Omega popularized in their Prayers, and an example of their usage in those other albums.
>>74615520
Panzerfaust is their second best album ya goof
>song title with metal in it
>>74615792
So your favorite is blaze right?
>>74615772
I really don't think those are very dissonant arpeggios, or that that's why dissonance is so popular nowadays, but what can ya do

You take that back muthafucka!
Metal that isn't satanist
>>74615853
what about it
>>74615829
Dissonance in the Gorguts - Obscura idea, no, that's obviously because of Gorguts, and you could argue later Deathspell Omega is definitely more on the Gorguts side of the spectrum, thus why they are more of an Other, but those other bands I linked are 100% influenced by Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice, and if you hear an eerie dissonant arpeggio, it's very likely possible to link it back to SMRC, even if the band itself may not be orthodox.
>>74615891
>100% influenced by Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice
This we agree on, but I insist dissonance is a minor detail of it, and one or two "eerie dissonant arpeggios" as you put it don't make a whole substyle. Outside of the latter bands which are more influenced by DsO post-2005, the vast majority of the "orthodox" bands are highly consonant.
>>74614966
but anon this is Satanist shit not Orthodox :^)
so how the fuck are you supposed to listen to funeral doom anyway? even if it's good music there's no way i can listen to this unless i'm mellowed out while high or something.
>>74615934
The style is definitely a mixture of both, you often have these eerie slow dissonant arpeggios, but then you do have these extremely catchy "triumphant" riffs as I like to call them. Examples of these riffs being choruses to Sola Fide I, Jubilate Deo, or the opening of Kenose III.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDAUuaWhYGY
Both of these styles play a critical point in the sound of this form of orthodox black metal, which is clearly differentiated from the earlier Swedish bands, which as mentioned earlier, are much more closer in sound to Mayhem during De Mysteriis.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsYv8pTLszM
Deathspell Omega took that Swedish sound, and really put their own spin on it with SMRC, and that's how we end up with this particular style of orthodox, and the eerie atmosphere inherent within those Prayers, played a vital role in it.
>>74616161
>played a vital role in it.
I seriously think this is too hyperbolic
What are some new-ish metal bands with clean vocals?
>>74616148
At a louder volume than most other music you listen to. You gotta let the sound really travel through your body, and for that it needs to be loud enough so the initial attack of the note is powerful enough to do so.
>>74616148
With your ears you ADHD riddled little snotfuck
>>74616148

That fucking easy
>>74616148
I tried several recs people gave yesterday. I also couldn't listen to it. This is like memedrone but slightly more listenable. Maybe I'm wrong but it's not what I was looking for

this is metal's last decade
>>74616773
Any thing more depressive? It's not total despair. And funeral doom is too slow
>>74617179
want some 'modern' metal instead?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVFWvWC8vlc
>>74617179
I don't what you're trying to say here. A niche nostalgia genre is going to kill metal as a whole?
>>74617247
well what the fuck is total despair anyway
how am i supposed to know how emotions feel to you
>>74617276
>niche
Revivalism is pretty much this decade's entire identity
>>74617247
Probably some depressive black/drone fusion I dunno. total despair would be just giving up and not making the music in the first place.
>>74617247
>i want sad ;_;
Just listen to Nortt then, you little twink. It's Pure Depressive Funeral Black Doom Metal.
>>74617295
so it's not only going to kill metal but music altogether
>>74617361
Pure Depressive Black Funeral Doom Metal*
>>74617368
yeah
black metal that sounds like Basil Poledouris' soundtrack to Conan
>>74617277
Well, something like early Sonic Youth or Joy Division for example.
>>74617361

>>74617267
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZH7H6dOUbcY
>>74617513
Depression isn't a state of grief and sadness. A lot of the time depressive black metal is just nihilistic in nature.

>>74617654
>Black Cilice
my man
>>74617633
Well I tried listening to them but it's not that brooding really. Still alright but from 5 DSBM bands I checked out none were truly as desperate as some other non-metal
>>74617669
twilight of the gods is fair but hammerheart if my favovrite creation by any mortal being
>>74617682
Then maybe stick to your faux emo indie and fuck off frmo /metal/?

Well as I said early Sonic Youth—like Evol https://youtu.be/I3eCdo0oHFI (this is just catchier song from it). The earlier you go, the less melody it has—like this for example https://youtu.be/cAmWkWZiZ50.
Also, obviously Joy Division, add to that Placebo and Nirvana's In Utero. A lot of music fits this criteria really. Heck, IMO Blue Oyster Cult have more desperate atmosphere than some of DSBM, it's just too loud and powerful for its own good
>>74617748
motorhead
>>74617841
Well that's fucking stupid. That's just sadness not total desparation.
>>74617824
yeah gguw is great
>>74617854
yeah motorhead is probably the best band

ok

The band literally released two albums. I've listened to that shit before, mate.
