Now with Vitamin R.

The point of these threads is to encourage people to look for new and interesting music. We do this by listening to and ideally discussing albums we've never heard before. Many of us already listen to new music daily, these people are in it to venture "out of their comfort zone" by listening to albums they otherwise wouldn't have, or just to have a good time.

Music has been great to me lately
>Robert Ashley - Wolfman
Reminded me of Ai Jin - The Gerogerigegege with the tape music slowly eroding, eventually becoming pure harsh noise. Absolutely in love.
4.5/5
>Blasphemer - On the Inexistence of God
4/5
>The California EAR Unit - For Philip Guston
4/5
>Future - Monster
"Monster", "My Savages", "Hardly", and "Codeine Crazy" are all outstanding. The rest is really good too. Really did not think Future ever made something this great.
4/5
>Tyler, the Creator - Flower Boy
The singles were definitely the best. Nice to hear him maturing.
3.5/5
>Youssou N'Dour et le Super Étoile de Dakar - Vol. 8 : Immigrés / Bitim rew
My favorite part of this was actually the fade out in the last 10 seconds of "Taaw" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EO17FNFbIsY)

>Keiji Haino - Soul's True Love
Disc 1. I think this first disc shows the heaviest Japan for such years (along with some Kaoru Abe maybe). It is addictive, it wasn't even over when I was already thinking in playing it again, insane drumming.
Disc 2. We are given a rest from the heavy stuff here, and I'm actually surprised how intimate and calm felt this one. Great to hear such variety in instruments.
Disc 3. Following the free improv path now this part focuses more in making use of field recordings to create an atmosphere that blow up for the last piece, which is freaking good.
Disc 4. A very primitive sound from Fushitsusha here, great overall last track stands out for being kinda different really sounding like Les Rallizes Dénudés.

Back on tha grind

>Ryuichi Sakamoto - Async
A solid collection of moody synthesizer soundscapes with some orchestral instrumentation. It doesn't pretend to be anything more or less. His approach to ambient and modern classical is rather simple and not particularly unique, but I didn't have an issue with any track. Though I can't say anything stuck out to me much, it is simply a pleasant listen overall. I'll be sure to check out his earlier work.

>Ben Zimmerman - The Baltika Years
I'm kinda disappointed that I didn't like this. It is a unique record that has some wild compositions and a wide range of styles, as it is a collection of songs rather than an album. However, I dislike the sonic palette used here. I just can't get into MIDI. Everything sounds like a sour note. It doesn't help that there is extra compression put on (can't decide if intentional or as a byproduct of the production method) to create this lo-fi - apparently "lo-bit" - aesthetic. The 20 minute opening track is impressive, twisting a heavily compressed vocal sample into a sprawling arpeggio, but it tires the ears after a while. Reminded me of early Autechre. The last few tracks Pausebreak pt. 1-6
are cool too, shifting the style into hip-hop and breakbeat beats while maintaining the same compressed MIDI sound. All 25 tracks in the middle range from forgettable to okay filler, but there could be some cool stuff in there that I'll find upon relistening. It all kind of blended together as it is a rather long album with similar sounds. Regardless, it was a fun listen and worth my time. Maybe it'll grow on me.

agree with rod's suggestions somewhat, though it's mostly because the suggestions don't remind me of the album besides Bjork.

for real how tf is Motion Graphics anything like 22, a million. Zammuto makes more sense because it's one of the members of The Books exploring rhythm and acoustic instrument work, but it's way more light-hearted.

POST FEELIST
I need a tape from you my dude

update

transsy made me a goregrind mix. which was good.
but I don't like goregrind.
there's some solid songs here but this is definitely where I draw the line on brutal vocals. it's actually repellent listening to the gargling sounds. sounds less like cool brvtal vocals and more like an elephant passing waste. incidentally, there's a song on this mix called "raped by elephants". i'm not sure how to feel about that. i'm not sure how to feel about any of this. I like the title and cover art a lot though. good work transsy, but like SDC's mix, it's not quite my thing.

darklands made me a country mix featuring townes van zandt, neil young, and robbie basho. I am always meaning to listen to this sort of thing more, so it's perfect. I don't love it immediately, but I think this'll get a lot of attention in the future. thanks darklands!! great job

it was a very tough decision but darklands advances, though jimmy jazz put up a great fight.

>Nasenbluten - 100% No Soul Guaranteed
>gabba

It's that distorted kick drum that will be the gatekeeper for anyone who first hears music like this. I'm not sure where I've picked up the negative association from prior to this, but it removes the ability to take it seriously for many.

Past that, this music is itchier than footwork, and uses the distortion of the kick drum, with other sped up noises to its advantage. Along with the volatile voice samples, Gabber comes straight from hardcore, a relatively young (if ignored) genre for a new century.

100% No Soul Guaranteed is strenuous, abrasive, and youthfully sadistic. It's no question that this is pure dance music, which it what makes it very difficult to sit down and listen to. The BPM only gets faster in the first 4 tracks, as the beats only get louder.

There's no use in critiquing song structures and sample choices when this music is meant to be a part of a social experience, in UK clubs tucked away in the nooks of the city. What's here is meant to overwhelm and thrash, for anyone to let loose beyond normal American House experience. It's this very new city phenomenon that makes this music and its culture an interesting reflection for youth of a new generation.

Can't pretend that I want to hear it again, unfortunately. I did make sure to look up a bit on its history, but its the same with footwork; I'm an outsider listening in on a cultivated music scene.

Good-day /daily/, how are you all doing? Went to town for the first time a while and bought the following;

>Aphrodite's Child - 666.
>Big Star - #1 Record.
>Flying Saucer Attack - s/t.

Listened to #1 Record and a few of the tracks off of 666 earlier, really didn't know what to expect though I always though Aphrodite's Child would be some sort of pre-No Wave band or just noise in general. Failed my driving theory test a second time so I'm fairly miffed, feel free to recommend any albums that'd cheer me up (not that I'm particularly sad, but I failed by one mark, which naturally makes me slightly irritated).

>>73863712
What country anon? Kinda sucks that they've had pro-Palestinian activists interfering with their performances. Whether or not you agree with them they really shouldn't be pushing their agenda in a music concert of all places, even if there is a very slight political influence on Yorke's lyricism.

To be fair the middle east conflict is the fault of both the israeli government and the Palestinian authorities. just blaming israel for this was never fair (i don't support the actions of the israeli government, im just saying that both sides are at fault)
>>
>>73864003
I agree with you in relation to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, granted I won't go on a tangent given that the subject tends to derail threads pretty quickly.
>>
>>73863916
This is from the 2000 Tel Aviv show you are talking about:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrd3LI6mces

To be fair Lucky sounds pretty huge and epic here, but there is still alot of screaming. and this seems to be filmed pretty close to the stage

Also i didn't know Thom used a rickenbacker guitar for this song
>>
>>73864111
Btw the guy who speaks in hebrew at 1:55 is saying: "What we didn't succeed in doing, they are doing".

He probably refers to the lack of good modern israeli musicians.
>>
I've been having some pain and tension in my left thumb and pinky finger for a while now, and just the other day I realised that it's hindering me from using the thumb to bar chords from above while playing guitar. Really sucks, because I don't think it will go away. I'm getting old man.
>>
>>73864111
oh, I meant the 1993 one, where they played every song they had in their repertoire and the crowd still wanted more so they played creep a second time in a different version
It's pretty cool overall, of course only Pablo Honey songs, but it's amazing to see how much fun the band and the audience had

If you thought that Duster song is the best song ever made, you should really listen to pic related

In my honest opinion it's an even better post-rock album than Talk Talk's masterpiece, laughing stock

It might be your new favorite album of all time

Supreme beauty. it's mysterious, other-worldly, mind-bending, heart-wretching, melancholic, and nostalgia inducing.

>Graham Lambkin - Salmon Run
I was expecting to like this but this just falls flat, everything is set up there but it is just never brought to life.
And Jesus fuck is the start of Jumpskins so horrible to listen to, and insultingly basic.
5-/11

>Paul Dolden - Who Has the Biggest Sound?
This is essentially played out like a completion to outdo each-other with the most ridiculous playing of instruments in various ways. The small parts of narration remind me alot of Dark and Stormy Night; I still have "OK that is ENOUGH of all these misbehaving animals!" stuck in my head. The "Un-Tempered Orchestra" section is noticeably lacking from the album titled show of the album however.
8-/11

link below,

I'm interested how it's going to hold up to international public, since there's a lot of speaking in it. I hope you liked it, it's interesting to hear how things sound from outside.

>>73872301
a lot of it is actually thing caught up in radios at different places, superimposed over audio ads, people talking and noise, I thought that a radio will have less issues with legal rights, and also the recording features a clip of credits being read - the credits of a radio drama cast in the radio I want to sent it to, and also the whole thing fits the format and will act incredible in the context of radio.
so a lot of different reasons, I hope I don't sound like a douche

, woah, it seems I can't upload it to mega without and account,
it will take a minute more

well lads.... we have one of the finalists! i made some cosmetic changes to the tourney too.

alexander tucker was basically yam bait tbqh

survival was kinda disappointing for a HHH project, it was really just a perfect circle or tool without the soft rock dronefest bits

AND HERE COME THE FINALS
jason webley was just a tom waits clone except more awkward and way less charming, miss me with that shit
paralytic stalks had a lot of good emotion in it, and i enjoyed the little chamber music influence sprinkled into it.
ecophony rinne was real fucking cool, i loved the gamelan use on it and all the different vocal effects and shit
soft airplane was boring

STICK VS BORZOI
choose wisely.

Ruined by the dance beats, did not like the mashup of harsh noise and party style electronics that much.

This just felt so cold, and not precisely in the way I like it, although not bad it bothers me how it goes in the same way all the time. It didn't really clicked for me like others of his albums.

True, but this is probably the 4th or 5th time this happens. I end up getting tired halfway through the day and take a nap which fucks everything up.

Always in the mood for some jazz, but if you have something else you want me to try, that too maybe.

I feel like I'm runny out of wacky fonts, but at least I'm over 2/3 done.

>The Jet Age of Tomorrow
This is the only Odd Future artist I've ever listened to, which makes sense because I don't listen to much hip-hop in the first place. The space aesthetic actually sounds more lounge-y which is cool, but the actual style of the individual songs feels scattered, especially with the guest rappers and producers. Voyager in particular also sounds kind of cheap.
Voyager: 3-
Journey To The 5th Echelon: 3

>Sylvain Chauveau - Singular Forms (Sometimes Repeated)
Imagine one of the Alva Noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto collabs, but with flat, mediocre "crooning" on top of it. I have a pretty high tolerance of instrumental artists adding vocals (Helios, Eluvium, Bohren & der Club of Gore), but I draw the line here.
2.5

>Asian Kung-Fu Generation - Magic Disk
I miss when people listened to basic j-rock on /mu/. This album is actually a bit boring in comparison to what I remember of their earlier material, but some of the songs are nice (like the Tatami Galaxy OP). I'm probably being too lenient but whatever.

I really gotta listen to one of those collabs sometime soon, suggestion for which one I should try first?

number girl, coalter of the deepers, mass of fermenting dregs etc were all huge on her 5 years ago
>>
>>73877960
i know that feeling, i've still not gone to bed yet tonight

and i'm not sure, trying to think of something but I've mainly been listening to garage rock and punk recently.

maybe MIles Davis' Dark Magus but idk how interested you'd be in Miles trying krautrocky psych wank
>>
>>73878306
More like 7+ years ago because I don't remember Dregs being all that popular when I got into /mu/.

Midori was all the rage tho
>>
>>73878129
I dunno, maybe Insen? All of the ones I've heard are fairly similar except for Revep.

>>73878382
Yeah, they were huge in 2010. There was a trip named Reverie that would post them (along with other basic j-rock) in sharethreads all the time.
