the major third is two steps up the root, (which is the same note 9 halfsteps below). counting that way from a D, the major third is F#
the minor third (or flat third) is a half step flat. D's minor third is F
the other note that composes the major chord is the natural fifth. the fifth is 7 halfsteps up the root. D's fifth is A

When i talk to others i greatly exagerate the time my socially acceptable responsibilities take from me (college, work, taking care of elderly family members) so that when im not doing nothing, nobody comes to annoy me. I also say to myself that the purpose of this is that one day i'll have the nerve to use all that extra time for guitar practicing, so far it hasn't happened.
