So I was playing my guitar and then the signal cut out. I thought it was bad cable so I switched cables. Still nothing. I opened her up and looked at the connections to the volume pots or the pickup selector. Those were fine. I didn't know what to do. So then I checked the input jack. Ah ha! Anyone have experience with a G&L Asat Classic Tribute. Mine is starting to piss me off. It sounds worse than my bullet with Mariposa pickups (which it fucking shouldn't). It especially sounds shit through my fuzz pedal, a whole lot of noise and a muted chord sound. My bullet doesn't even sound that bad.

>>73747769
Yes, that's where I got my guitar. It was practically a steal (I wonder why). But that was after some assholes from Oregon kept saying they would accept my offer, only to ghost my messages and raise the listing price of the guitar by $100+. Also got a decent effects pedal

leave it alone, it's beautiful in that black finish. Unfortunately a non-original finish hurts the value alot, I would say $1000-ish is the best you could get for that.

Hi friendo's, i'm looking for EQ advice for my guitar.

I'm playing in an experimental/post rock type band and i'm pretty happy with my guitar sound but theres just some tiny things i'm trying to fix up.

I have a nice clean sound however I find at pushed volumes you get that very hi 1k type of piercing coming through. I try to roll off the tops a it with my EQ pedal but that tends to make me drop back in the mix and the reverb starts to much it all out.

Is there a way I can get a clean, articulate sound for higher notes (with delays and reverbs) without that ear piercing high?

Guitar: Strat
Amp: Blackstar HT60
Pedals that will effect this: MXR 6 band EQ, Voodoo Lab Sparkle Mod Drive TS

Kind of going for a Gybe clean sound. It's pretty much there, but when I get it the way I want, it doesn't mix into the rest of the band very well (other guitarist has to change his volume like every song and changes his pickups which heavily impact/drown out my guitar).
>>
>>73751225
>being this fucking dense
How illiterate are you?
>>
>>73751235
Try a compressor like the diamond comp jr for your clean sounds. You can add a bit of warmt with the built in eq/tone knob while tightening up your clean signal.
>>
>>73751315
Will a compressor mess with my headroom though? Keeping in mind we do a couple crescendocore kinda stuff?

I was thinking another way would be to roll off the tops until I get the sound I want and then using the TS as a clean boost, but it seems as though once the signal is pushed, its breaking up in the tube stage and goes back to that tinny high sound.

thanks for the advice.
>>
>>73751347
If you use subtle boost and compression and cut out some of the highend it might get you to where you want to be. Here's a demo of the 3 different (mostly size) Diamond Compressors

Yeah, I came back home for dinner but I'm about to go back to my Grandmothers house in a little bit.

As far as Samuel goes I don't give a shit about $40, if he lived in my town I'd go hide it under a rock in the park if he wanted me to. My thing is getting it to him with no strings attached for me. I'm not willing to divulge any of my info but I'd drop a $50 money order (or even actual cash) in the mail without a return address in a heartbeat.

Of course I'd document the whole process with pics and ask Samuel to reciprocate when he got the money. Thinking about the Poorfa/gg/ Bri/gg/ade™ potentially filling this general with endless be/gg/ing makes me FUCKING ROCK HARD.
>>
>>73751225
yes it is a floyd rose if you are just looking at the front.

on the back you have a mechanism with a ball that balances the strings to point zero. so the guitar can never go out of tune.
>>

Thanks for the advice,

It's such a shame I can't just use Amp and 6 Band EQ to get rid of it. It's really close, but just not quite there. I'd just like to not make people squint when I hit some e and b string stuff, but at the same time still be able to hear what i'm playing smoothly.
>>
anyone have any experience with cap values? i'm split between a 0.022 or 0.047uf cap because while i want to get a super dark jazz tone (like one of those mexican teles UNF), i'm also worried about my tone knob essentially turning into an on/off switch without any tweakability.

is changing the cap value to get that sweet, deep, bassy rolled-off tele voice even something i can hope from a jazzmaster? help pls

if you want a vintage tone just get a reissue. the problem is that reissues cost a hundred more than standard guitars for no reason.

I do that already, all it essentially does is take away from the tops that I want and pulls is back to a dull/muddy sound.

Alright I'm getting my first guitar. Already narrowed down the guitar part (yamaha pacifica 112v), but now I need a practice amp (bedroom situation).
Any recs? Budget is about €250, but I was thinking it may be better to start with a cheap modeling amp of <€150 until I figure out what sounds I like and then buy a better amp.
Shortlist is something like:
>Blackstar ID:Core Stereo 20 V2
>Roland Micro Cube GX
>Fender Mustang I V2
>Yamaha THR10 V2 (bit on the expensive side maybe)
>Peavey Vypyr VIP I
or maybe something simpler like an Orange Crush.
I'm not really sure what would be a reasonable price for an amp being an absolute beginner, or what features would be really nice for me to have.

People seem to recommend the Yamaha Pacificas as great beginner guitars all around the internet. I kinda have my doubts about the bridge (rather have a fixed one), but I really don't want to invest too much up front. Is it really that bad? It's not like it's THAT cheap. It's a €250 guitar.
>>
>>73754144
the 250 one should be better than the 150$ one.
but after 6 months of playing you will probably have setup issues or whatever.
but yamaha is known for their outstanding pricing when it comes to guitar so maybe that 100$ difference is instrumental when it comes to yamaha guitar

you can start learning to improvise by following this one simple trick.

Play notes that you think will sound good over (simpler) songs that you know inside out.

Learn how to apply the pentatonic scale to different songs.

Then learn about different scales. Analyse the way the scale sounds and if you can imagine the scale over the piece of music, play it.

Good honesty in describing it as noodling.

And the slidey tricks after are cool.

Got bored after 2 mins though but powering through.

Woke back up after the SRV style riffing.

Alternate picking needs work. There's alot of "unnecessary" right hand movement, that's just my opinion, could be part of your high-attack tone though.

Hitting a pre amp just makes the noise worse and I've already tried all the pickup combinations. I can't even record with it. For some background, I bought this guitar from a friend and it's about 10 years old and they are probably the original pickups. Do I just need to get new pickups or could it be another problem? jorma kaukonen mostly used rickenbackers and ES-345s in his time with jefferson airplane, and was playing through cranked fender twin reverbs, like most of the san fran bands of that era. played with a lot of reverb/echo and fuzz

to get that spacy sound you need a leslie rotating speaker cabinet or a vibe pedal. all of this is vital to that psychedelic sound

The opposite of whatever the fuck they are about.

They shouldn't have ever picked up an instrument. I'd wager many of them in that video did just because it was "cool" to do so at the time.

These people shouldn't be making music, but they are, and that is probably why it's garbage

Right let's see you make something better then.

I'm self taught and I'm learning to play by playing progressively harder and harder songs.

I know how to play some riffs, Creep, Fake Plastic Trees, the first minute of Enter Sandman. What else should I learn from here?

>Not enjoying /metal/ every once in a while
I mean, that video was overrused riffs and shredding with ridiculously clean production (which imho is the absolutest worst sin you can commit with metal), but you are a true fucking pleb if you hate an entire genre.

A true patrician listens to and enjoys a little of ALL genres of music because they all contribute something different and innovative to the whole.

The best musicians are those who practice and understand a vast array of different genres and can adapt and play any style they need to.
>>
>>73757015
would recommend AC/DC, U2 and the Ramones stuff. you're basically just providing a steady beat but like a good drummer, this is the hardest part for most. today people can play millions of notes per second but can't create that steady constant rhythm line for your guitarist to work with. and when you record, you'll really see if you're good or not. when they isolate your track or recored you individually, it'll be all you and that beat so you'll hear that timing if it's of or not.

good luck in all your bass related endeavors, anon.

UPS sucks.

>be me
>trust UPS fag to wrap my guitar case and ship
>he opens case
>probaly strums strings
>definitely finds loose knob and pulls it off
>he cant get it back on
>same thing happened to me
>he gets frustrated and accidentally drops the knurled metal knob on the body
>puts knob in case like he had nothing to do with it

Moral of the story: Make sure case keys work when buying used. If they don't, knock down the price.

Don't sweat over the amp if you can't play yet and will only use it in a bedroom for learning. I got Behringer GM-108 for $20 from CL and I can barely turn it up to 2 before neighbours come knocking. Anything bigger or more expensive than that will be a total waste for you. Get a Pocket Pod ($50 second hand) instead if you want to mess around with tones.

I'm the fag that bought the boss katana. Question, would you use overdrive or distortion pedals in the clean channel or in a crunch/overdrive channel? Complete newbie if you hadn't guessed already.
>>
>>73758997
At least I bought new, so I'm not really at risk for that.

>>73760262
Why would you buy a modelling amp to use pedals on.
I mean the distortion even sounds decent on the Katana.
>>
>>73756128
>taking the wood shed metaphor literally
Better the second time through. Nothing really stood out, though. The ascending pattern could have been played faster, for the sake of contrast or the following legato part could have been extended. One of those two parts could have been the climax of the solo.
>>
>can play the solos from the Bluesbreakers album
>>
>>73760346
It has Pedals/Effects built in. I'm not sure if I should use an OD effect in front of the crunch or lead channel or if that's only useful on the clean channel to add distortion.
