speaking of Birth of the Cool, just copped pic related, plus a Out to Lunch and Hub-tones t-shirts. I wanted to get the Compulsion one but it was an ugly grey. I'll look like an autist wearing them but how else will anyone know I listen to jazz?

I trust all of you have listened to at least part of the David W. Niven collection? If you haven't, get to it. I suggest starting with the Fats Waller tapes.

This is a pre-WWII Jazz fan's perspective and meticulous compilation of great Jazz. He mad all of this in the last 80s before he passed away, made from his legendary collection of Jazz records he bought, starting as a paper boy in the 40s.

>650 tapes · 1,000 hours · 1,378 WAV files · 637 GB · 691 JPEG scans of cassette liner cards & literature. Meticulously Collected, Compiled, and Narrated by David W. Niven, 1930-1993.
>Throughout the ten years prior to WWII, during my high school and college years, my 78 RPM 10”, followed by 33 1/3 RPM LP, collection grew to the thousands. All the big names of jazz, along with lesser legends, were included, and I found myself with a first class treasure of early jazz music.
>The main reason for doing this rather major project was to put my collection into some kind of compendium form that would attract my children to the music that had been of such significance in my life. My collection amounted to over 10,000 hours of tapes. No two people will agree with my selection of Legends. I decided to choose from the years prior to the BeBop period, i.e., before Gillespie, Bird, Monk, Miles.

This man's commentary and selection is irreplaceable. A collection that is literally a historical treasure, David W. Niven's collection should be listened to by anyone looking for good Jazz.

you show talent. but to criticism, you clearly know how to play a scale, but not much else. add chromaticism and interesting flavour to your playing, but the biggest criticism i have is that it's way too much. less is more, always. stop playing so many notes and start playing the right ones.
>>
>>73711456
Thx for feedback
>>
The nearest teacher is way out of town, is it too late for me friends?
>>
>>73711456
I almost agree with this guy, but not quite. It's possible to play a lot of notes and still be musical, but what you personally need to do is work on your sound. Your phrases blend together really uniformly. Try making certain notes stand out more. Accentuate key portions of your phrases and work on bend/sliding techniques to give more variations and personal feel. Try to sing or hum your phrases and then play them like you sing it.
>>
>>73711494
if you live close to a university, i guarantee you that there's a ton of graduate students who want to teach you. if you're near a community college, there's probably a music professor there who does private lessons. if you're in a reasonably sized town, then there's definitely someone who does private lessons near you. ask around, ask musicians. go to the local church, there'll be keyboardists there who can either teach you or point you in the right direction. musicians who want work are everywhere, you just have to know where to find them

Are there any vocalists that you guys think are underrated?
