this shit is fucccking rediculous.
what was actually wrong with thelonious?
>>73675628
try to show alittle respect please, he means a lot to a lot of people. but, no one is really sure what his mental illness was exactly, however, many have observed serious schitzophrenic behaviors and thats the best guess anyone has. on top of that he smoked a WHOLE LOT OF POT (which you arent supposed to do if your schitzoprenic though, i know a few people who have it and do and atleast one of them is doing very well in my opinion) and he took a lot of some sort of perscription pill that i dont know what it was but it may have not been so good for him.
Looking for some european jazz like Esbjörn Svensson Trio with this kind of contemporary sound. Recs would be nice.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnA-g9iw9tc
>>73676375
Does it have to be European? Check out the bad plus.
>>73676375
Maybe try steve khun's- Non-Fiction or Keith Jarretts- My song
David Binney is so fucking good
anyone in here check out Bill McHenry, hes amazing and pretty underrated from what i can tell.
>>73676400
It doesnt't, have to be European, It's just that i'm not familiar with jazz from that continent. Will check em out, thanks!
>>73676620
Love Keith, but i haven't heard steve khun before. Thanks for the rec! good stuff
>>73676724
Why they look so nerdy

Hey where should I go after listening to Thelonious Monk - Solo Monk?
This guy suggests Brilliant Corners as an entry point to jazz in general so I'm inclined to get it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49BiSfTARTw&
>>73676782
cool man! wish my more ECM knowledgale buddy was around. not really in the vain you mentioned but maybe try Pat Metheny- Bright Size Life
>>73676869
well do you want more monk playing solo or do you want something with a group? really its all amazing but i would probably recc something other then brilliant corners to start with his group playing.
>>73676929
I think I'd go with a group recording now. I didn't exactly "finish" the first one (listened a lot but there's a lot to take in), so it would be nice to go in another direction
>>73676947
id try live in tokyo or live in italy, theyre the same year and mostly the same band if my memory serves me well. theres also the classic Monks Dream from the same year. Thelonious Monk Trio is another good one from early on but with less people playing on it. but you cant really go wrong with any of them and ive heard them all.
did anyone in here take my advice and listen to this? what were your thoughts if you did.
>>73674502
whats everyones favorite mingus?
>>73677764
Everyone says black Saint but I think Tijuana moods is much more cohesive. Plus the bonus track is funny as fuck
My favorite Jazz musician has to be Fats Waller or Benny Goodman. Fats Waller plays the Piano and Benny Goodman plays the Clarinet.
>>73677196
thanks for the recs! I'll listen to them!
>>73677805
Benny Goodman is amazing, some of the best older jazz for sure. What would you say his best album is

>Who's your favorite jazz musician that plays an instrument that's not usually in jazz?
First person who came to mind was Bill Barber. If I thought about it enough, I'd probably think of someone I prefer, but he's played really well on a bunch of records I love.
>Who's your favorite jazz musician that plays an instrument that's not usually in jazz?
Bela Fleck. Alice Coltrane and Jean luc ponty deserve a shout too
>>73680233
lol why would you think of a Flyers Hall of Famer, sure Barber probably improvised and had a lot of interplay with Leach and Clarke, but it wasn't jazz. jk but for tuba i'd have to say Bob Stewart, especially his records with Arthur Blythe(rip) and let my children hear music
