Hmmm frankly that's a tough question. If you want specifically glam, you have this Electric Boys https://youtu.be/S1yn-x_WTuA. Living Colour isn't technically glam I guess, but they fit the funk metal bill. INXS also is related somewhat, some funk rock from the '80s.
Otherwise, funk metal was much more of 90s and alt-rock thing. Most glam was either zep/stones, Dokken, Motley Crue, or some combination of thereof. Now you can find some funky groove here and there in glam, but I heard a lot of it and I can't quite tell you anything quite like this from the top of my head.

The album is pretty much a soundtrack to a photoshopped poster for a doc on 90s death metal.

everything you've said is spot on. living color is kinda in the same vein but more alt metal i guess
>>
>>73633453
Yes indeed, this song does sound pretty unique. Now technically the funk metal like this was omnipresent in grunge, but Extreme also has glam sound. This is quite a unique combination.
I got curious and listened to some songs from Waiting for the Punchline. Now I guess here was when they changed their sound more in line with grunge. This is what most bands sounded like in the '90s, like some stuff from Alice in Chains, Jane's Addiction, Faith No More, RHCP, etc. I guess Extreme arrived a bit early to the party of funk metal.
Otherwise, I looked up funk metal on RYM: https://rateyourmusic.com/genre/funk+metal . You can see the genre barely had anything before the '90s. So either you try the few bands from the '80s on this list; or just go with the '90s grunge/alt-rock stuff. It's not glam sound, but speaking of melodies it's pretty much what you're asking for.

Forgot to add. Maybe, just maybe, there might in theory be other formerly glam bands who jumped the funk metal wagon in the '90s. And vice versa, some funk metal bands which turned to emo/glam of the 2000s. I wouldn't expect high quality from it though.

thanks for all the replies man. they were more glam oriented on their first two albums, but three sides to every story was a concept album and much more driven in terms of what they wanted. it was 1/3 hard rock with a lot of funk metal like in
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avctK0I8XAg
but also had the progressive and ballad sides.
they definitely switched gears to stay relevant in the mid 90s due to grunge which as you said is very apparent on waiting for the punchline. i love aic but never really considered them funk metal, however janes, fnm and early rhcp definitely fit the bill but i've always thought extreme were kinda their own thing...ahead of their time, with skills and heavier, funky riffs different than their glam counterparts, yet more structured with the 3 part harmonies and technical than the late 80s, early 90s funk metal crowd.
>>

>>73633878
It's basically the logical conclusion of rock music in general.

>Conspiracy themed, rebellious lyrics, intelligent yet still tongue-in-cheek
>Jazz influenced instrumentation, yet bluesy, and still fun to listen to. Melodic enough to be poppy but hard enough to still rock to this day

Well yeah, the big problem with alt/grunge is that they had little skill (to be blunt). I'd argue though that AiC had some funkier moments, Rain When I Die is my longtime favorite.
And yes, Extreme were indeed ahead of their time. A pretty unique/weird mix which sometimes happen in rock. Can't quite name anything like this.
Somehow I get a little bit of The Cult and Aerosmith vibes from them, I'd suggest checking out this specific song: https://youtu.be/ctuEIfFEKFs . It's funkier side of blues, not the same but deserves a mention if you haven't heard them yet. The same can be said about this song: https://youtu.be/Kyi-iRl-4YM . If that's not it, I give up, I know nothing else like Extreme.
I got another small idea though, some more adult-oriented stuff from the '90s might have this exact sound. But I'm afraid not with same technical rock vibe. And again that'd be derivative wagon hopping music.

I dislike Slayer a lot. Slayer was the band that long prevented me from exploring any metal past heavy metal. I feel they're so painfully mediocre and everything they might or might not have pioneered other bands took and did better. I see absolutely no value in them, unless you're the "atmosphere" guy, aka "I don't care about musical qualities and it's good because it's comfy and muh feels", aka 99% of /mu/.
There's a reason this band is so revered by numales and even chicks

Not really. I was legit surprised by Reign in Blood, surprised how painfully boring and dull it was. Then I listened to Seasons in the Abyss, and holy shit, Slayer surpassed themselves. Even more dull and boring. I thought it couldn't go any further than this, being that sterile yet unlistenable, edgy yet not fun. I guess that's what the "abyss" part means, because it sure made me feel down.

>>

Wrong albums to start with desu. I would have just gone in order, only checking out Seasons if you really liked the preceding two records. Hell Awaits is where they attempt the creative, linear song structures which would influence death metal, and South of Heaven slowed things down a bit after RiB to allow some more 'breath' and expressive performance (especially from the drums).

Honestly, there's a lot of extremely obvious bands I didn't dig for years. Iron Maiden didn't click for me until I went back to the first album, instead of the more popular Bruce material. Also your "atmosphere" comment is still nonsensical.

I'll try to re-listen to them, although I just doubt I will change my opinion much. I prefer something with melody or rhythm. And listening to RiB, I hear neither. It just feels very repetitive and primitive. It's not without interesting moments, and I do appreciate these more now. But I listen to Metallica for example, and I simply get way more kick out of it, and way easier. And don't even get me started on heavy metal, I'd pick anything by Priest, Ozzy or Mercyful Fate any day. Then I come back to Slayer, and listening to it just feels like a chore.

books can move you know

what's bigger, chance of one book moving from somewhere to europe or 10000 books moving from somewhere to africa? Now do you understand?

The Nazis themself made it illegal to write music with riffs in it because it had strictly African origins

of course
blues influence is a myth
the only reason Black Sabbath sounded darker than their upbeat rockabilly predecessors, is because of English weather, and they were sick of all the hippy shit

European folk music had riffs, just a different kind of riffing. Just like how metal has a completely different kind of riffing from blues and rock.

Thanks for answering my question.

You're missing the point, he's saying that Slayer has both of those things.

A lot of metal (Not just black) has little to no direct blues influence because a lot of metal evovled from increasing rejection of blues influence which lead to it distinguishing itself as its own genre in the first place. But the music could only be defined by its increasing rejection of bluesiness because it was first defined by its bluesiness (Sabbath). No metal we know today could of existed without the blues. NWOBHM was nothing but early Sabbath and Priest material with the blues influenced being played down for a mote straight forward rock n roll swagger.

Damn that album takes me back. I would borrow my dad's Dokken and Dio cd's and listen to them on my walkman all the time when I was a kid.

Slayer has both of those things, except they deconstruct them to the point of primitivism. Their highly technical playing gets boring in 5 minutes. It's no more rhythm than from a metronome, and no more music than from birds singing. That's why I said that

Fuck you dude, Lombardo is one of the best drummers of early thrash and you have no idea what you are talking about.

>Lombardo is one of the best drummers of early thrash
I never said otherwise, did I. I fully agree that if you like early thrash, Slayer is probably down your alley. Except I don't really like thrash. The thrash I do like is part thrash, part other things I like it for. Like Metallica, who have pretty interesting and heartfelt folk-ish melodies. Or Megadeth's visceral feeling of danger and wild energy.
When you boil down thrash to essentially punk + metal, with more deconstruction, dissonance and other postmodernist bullshit, I don't like it. I don't like it in EDM, piano music, guitar music, anywhere. To me it's non-music and the most tryhard and cancerous development that is as fun and cool as a sound of a printer.
