More I think out of riding the wave of glam, and just taking it to its logical conclusion of a full blown spectacle to the point their costumes were legitimately made by companies for circus use. Full theatrics and makeup just blew anything the glam era could ever reach from there on, at least visually. I'll also say partly cause up until Love Gun they actually gave a shit about songwriting, whereas everything after that is a derivative of whatever was in at the time.

fair enough
>>72898303
Ever since the the end of the reunion in like 2002, that's pretty much the case with them still sticking with the makeup afterwards. Its pretty tragic given any footage you see currently now they're playing in the fucking key of L to compensate for Paul's voice. And as far as the "spectacle" you can tell they've been toning it down now since any and all people that even go are content with just them in costume it seems like, since stateside they've only filling like 5-10K person venues.

From what I understand it's that they're all relatively popular as metal goes. Basically if you've been listening to metal for any decent length of time you know most if not all albums/bands on the chart. I was into shitty music for most of high school. Linkin Park, 30 Seconds to Mars, Skillet, Shinedown to name a few of the bands I liked in freshman and sophomore year. A little less than halfway through junior year I listened to Metallica for the first time and started to get into metal.
I never really listen to any of the first four bands I mentioned but still listen to a lot of the metal I picked up in high school. Granted I did just finish my freshman year in college so it hasn't been very long.
i dont see any memes
unless this shit is way meta
Do any of you post on /mu/ outside of /metal/?

I used to back in the day but generally threads nowadays are waifushit or generals so there isn't much point.
Even the last.fm threads are dead as fuck.
So, tell me about Douglas, why does he wear the mask?

Nu-male cuck
>when metal artists stop playing metal but still make music they usually make god-tier contributions to the different genre they now play
What makes metal musicians so damn great?

But the consensus on Metallica, even on /mu/, is that their first 4 are essential

Sounds like if you took Gothenburg melodeath and turned it into grindcore.
why are all the good metal vinyls hovering around 100 euros on discogs

Craig Goldy is the most boring Dio guitarist
>>72907005
>using the Internets for anything other than /metal/
d e g e n e r a c y
>>72907059
Goldy's alright, though just a pretty standard '80s Blackmore-ish shredder. Tracy G has decent chops, but Godawful tone.
Viv Campbell and Rowan Robertson were the best Dio solo guitarists.
>>72891748
I honestly think this album the best vocals ever put on an LP
>>72907093
It is funny how pretty much all their careers turned into trainwrecks of wasted potential after Dio
I agree that Robertson was the best though.
>>72907005
>the MA politics thread, some random metal band, and a Dragonball z meme are your most visited websites
cansur
One of the biggest gems of last year and /metal/ rarely talks about it.
>>72907167
Dio was right when he said it was ridiculous that Robertson's band with Oni Logan, Violet's Demise, somehow never got signed. Their sound was pretty much perfect for the mid-'90s.

The material ended up getting released, albeit partially re-recorded, years later as "Logan/Robertson - Revisited". Sadly the CD's long out of print and worth a small fortune these days though, with it being pretty rare on file sharing websites as well.
Here's the demos, though.

Metallica was never a metal band, it was a rock band with metal elements.
