I have an LP Special II and want to upgrade to a slightly better quality instrument in a Strat style, what's recommended under $300? I figure it'd be less expensive than changing parts in the LP.
>>
>>72675161
It's normal, stand with your back up straight and your feet apart, left foot slightly ahead of your right, pull the guitar up so the neck is well well close to your head and the strap is doing the rest of the work. Basically your hand should be what keeps it from slipping forward/backward and the strap keeping it vertically stable.

I want to get back into playing bass guitar, it's been awhile and I only ever played songs that I enjoyed. What's the best way to learn again? No meme answers please.

>>72675254

>>
>>72675254

>>
>>72675254
Do you wanna practice, or do you want to play?
If you wanna play, do like >>72675266 says and play what you enjoy. What music do you like listening to?

If you wanna actually practice, learn the modes of the major scale and run the scales and arpeggios up and down. Might not seem very fun, but practice isn't about having fun, it's about getting more gooder
>>
>>72673774
I am a shit musician but just ordered a used Epiphone Riviera P93 anyways.

Going to spend the summer practicing that and the keys and writing some stuff.

Besides just putting my nose to the grindstone, does anyone have tips on how to get the most out of practicing?
>>
>>72675551
Good stuff my man, nice to see you enthusiastic about music

Make sure that you're 110% focused when you're practicing to make it efficient.
Some people can stay focused on one thing for a long time, and others have shorter time spans.
I know for a fact that my time of absolute focus is really short. Like 5-10 minutes.
So when I practice, let's say a scale, I can usually keep doing that for 5-10 minutes and then I realize I'm not being 110% into it and my mind starts drifting. That's when I take a 2 minute break, and then I practice something else. The different exercises go in a circle and I come back to the first exercise later.
Maximizing your practice really becomes important when you have limited spare time in the day.
>>
>>72675551
Lie down, pull your knees up over your head, shit on your chest. Rub your guitar in it and get a good adhesion, practice. It's good for your posture too.
>>
>>72675709
Awesome, thanks. My posture is shit so this will help.

>>72675702
Yeah, I had trouble with that in the past while playing the keyboard, but lately while practicing the guitar I have been doing better.
I think it helps a bit that reading guitar tabs is easier than sheetmusic for me, so learning something is not as difficult, slow, or boring.
>>
>>72675845
While tab has it's uses, ) you should set off some time to practice reading sheet music too though. It's a lot more versatile especially if you're gigging, and also for writing.
I know how much reading sucks at times, I'm struggling with it myself, but it's a great skill to have
>>
>>72675941
I understand that, and I can do it very slowly as long as it isn't something crazy that I need to know all my keys for.
Just another thing to work on though, will get around to improving in that area eventually.
>>
>>72675516
different guy here, but is there a bass equivalent to chordbook? i like the way you think
>>
>>72676292
Can't you just ignore the first two strings?
>>
>>72675161
I use a thick, soft leather strap and it works wonders. Never slips, looks great, doesn't slip out of the holders. Only thing is it's a bitch to change length, but how often are you going to change the length anyway?

If you want to fix your posture, try buying a drum throne with an attached back. I have the Mapex one I picked up from GC. Lets you lean back and yet still see the frets.
>>
>>72676292
Learn how chords are built and make your own chords/voicings if chords on bass is what you wanna play. Adam Neely has a video series about it on YouTube that explains it way better than I can.

Thicker strings are louder, as they create more tension - but they can create more "buzz" and be harder to fret. However, if you downtune your guitar, the sound will generally be clearer with thicker strings.
>>
>>72677594
I have mine set to G atm, though I'd like to be able to tune to Drop E and still be able to play things like power chords and still have a good non-muddy tone, maybe I should just buy two sets of strings and try them both

>lapsteelfag report

Continuing adventures in Open A tuning. While I really like Open A in that a lot of older tunes are easily playable on the top 3 strings, it's becoming obvious why C6 is now pretty much standard. There's intervals you just can't get to easily without that 3-4 major second built into the tuning.

That was a fun project, I'm thinking about adding a bridge pickup but it sounds pretty damn good the way it is now.

It stays in tune now (proper tuners and a better nut), the headstock dive is gone due to adding weight and relocating the strap button and I leveled the frets (crowning didn't work out too well though) so I can play it with a nice and low action.
The bridge is also better since it doesn't rattle like the original.

You're gonna get memed the fuck on.
Line 6 spider amps are modelling amps, which means they have a fuckload of computer generated effects and sounds.
Buy a standard transistor with just clean/disto channels and reverb, it's better to have an amp with two correct tones than an amp with hundreds of really shitty ones.

Alright /gg/. What do you guys think happened here?

Year-old guitar, LTD Snakebyte. Guy custom ordered it through the shop I work at. It's not a super cheap guitar by any means, but it's not an ESP. Still, it was $1200. He brings it back last week wanting a replacement or it fixed and maintains he just plays it all the time like anyone else.

I've sold dozens of guitars... cheap and expensive, new and vintage, and have never seen fret wear like this on anything. My main bass that I cut my teeth on for a decade doesn't have this level of wear, and I used Rotosound rounds for years of aggressive play, too. What happened with this guitar?

> fuckload of computer generated effects and sounds
one of the things he was praising the amp for were the different effects it has. But does the variety of the effects mean that the amp doesn't have good clean sounds?
And why would you recommend a transistor amp over a tube amp? Sorry, I'm new to all this
>>
>>72681436
Poor fret material.
>>
>>72681462
nope, I'm a guitarist. a band just needs a bass, that's it.
>>
>>72681482

>>
>>72681473

>>
>>72681482
The point of these amps is they have a lot of different effects. The thing is, they're fun to fiddle with it for 5 minutes then you'll get bored. And the money spent on digital effects obviously doesn't go into good circuitry and speakers.
Transistor amp are cheaper than tube amps and are a good place to start for a new player. All you need is a good clean tone, a correct distortion and some reverb. Tube amps are not worth the investment if you're just starting guitar.

They're the same frets you'll find on anything Ibanez, Washburn, Schecter, and more. The entire industry depends on them. They're not that bad. I've sold $200 LTD guitars to little kids who beat the hell out of their guitars and never have this type of problem.
>>72681436
The guy thinks the frets are defective. I have a couple different ideas.

One thing I immediately gathered is that this guy is either oily, sweaty, or both. Guitar smells and the matte finish has shined up considerably. However, there's not a whole lot of gunk around the frets, so I'm a little tentative to assume that the friction caused from those gross hands caused this wear in a year. He does maintain he plays several hours a day though.

Of course I want good sound, that's why I want the new amp, not for tons of effects, I just meant if more effects necessarily mean that the basic clean and basic distortion will sound worse?
>>72681540
okay I think I get what you mean. The guy at the store just didn't tell me that the many effects will mean worse sound.
I've actually been playing for a little more than 3 years and I want to buy me a good guitar and therefore a good amp, so it pays off. I just don't have the knowledge on the amps.
What other data than power should I be looking for? To prevent that some guy recommends me another amp, that'll have bad sound.
>>
>>72681570
The only other thing I have to work with is that he plays a lot of aggressive metal and, as such, is probably aggressive with his guitar. He's also starting to play again for the first time in years after having played a lot in the 90s. I'm mostly leaning onto something to do with poor technique and beating the shit out of it, along with maybe sweat and such.

Basically, there are two conclusions that can be reached:
>guitar is defective
>guy is an idiot
Given that this guy told me picking up a guitar by the neck will damage the neck, I'm really leaning toward option 2, but I wanted to see what the seasoned shit posters here might think other than "hurr it's not worth more than my house so it's a shit guitar".

I'll think about it, have you ever pushed an amplifier fuse down your dickhole?

end your life now, for you are entirely fucking worthless

...No, I don't think so.
>>
>>72683664
You also should clamp a capo to your balls when you try that. For those extra kicks.
>>
>>72683644
No, I think there's a gap in the market for a messageboard where people can have a full and frank exchange of views in clear language without getting banned for calling someone a cunt. Try that on tdpri or gearpage and see how far you get with it.

Jesus, just put it out of it's misery already.

can one produce electronic stuff on reaper just as easy, or fl studio and ableton are more suited for that type of music
>>
>>72684076
Reaper will work just fine.
>>
>>72684097
thanks
sorry i thought i was on /prod/
>>
>>72684076
Reaper's very good but I find it a bit cluttered and the learning curve is very steep. I've used Cubase since it came on two floppy disks for the Atari 1040 so I tend to stick with that.

>>72683863
Brilliant, I'll bet it would sell.

So tech-wise, what's wrong with Line 6 amps?

mediocre sound, its line 6 so you shouldn't expect much from them anyway.

Why do they sound like shit though? Why do people hate them?

Not that I'd ever get one, I use virtual amps anyway, which may or may not be worse.

asio4all fuckin stopped making input sound fucking again
>>
>>72684263
They sound like shit because they're entry to mid level amps, jack of all trades master of none. They get hate because theyre an easy target, i shit on them frequently for the lulz.
>>
>>72684334
told you twice already fuckwit, stop trying to use your shitty built in Realtek for audio, buy a Focusrite or stop trying
>>
>>72684263
Ive owned both Spider III and Spider IV, a Ux1 Audio interface, and i can say that none of them are worth the money.
Both Spiders just sound terrible, its been years since I have heard them, but I recall the sound becomes muddy if the mids were anything past 5-6. Apparently they couldn't even make Spider V good.
The UX1 driver is a fucking joke and it crashes often, I would end up restarting my entire system to hear sound again. It doesnt even have phantom power.
Line 6 is a joke. Take your business elsewhere.
>>
>>72681300
Line 6 spider amps are unironically Shit.

Are Jazzmasters any good for playing metal/shredding? Because it seems so judging by a couple of videos I've seen on YT.
I'm asking because I only own a Squier Strat (poorfag) and want to save up for a good guitar. The Jazzmaster seems to be a great guitar for a wide range of genres.
The hardest stuff I play is Pantera or Metallica and I play the Blues a lot. Other than that I play jazzy pieces sometimes. If I want a good compromise between those, will a Jazzmaster be good? What guitar would you guys recommend?
I'm also considering a Les Paul but it seems to be too heavy to play any of the softer/jazzier stuff.
>>
>>72684381
a Focusrite is like 1 minimum wage here

asio4all got working again
>>
>>72683714
yeah you have to be more subtle or they'll kick your account to the curb
>>
>>72684917
les pauls can do softer jazzy stuff just perfectly. just dont use overwound metal pickups, use vintage pafs
it would not do as good as the jazzmaster though because the name says it all
>>
>>72685119
1 what?
>>
>>72685157
okay thanks and you got any experience with metal on the jazzmaster?
>>
Any of you cunts have any experience with midi drums? How can I make a drum track of this?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogKP7wVkiq8
