Here it is, kids: 7, 8, and 9 string guitars are the result of kids playing in their bedrooms for years and years all alone. The only people who'd be interested in this kind of guitar wankery are other isolated bedroom-stuck 7, 8, and 9 string guitar troglodytes, so it's YouTube and the bedroom again, and MOM WHERE THE FUCK ARE MY HOT POCKETS?!?

Seriously though, it's a symptom of extreme social detachment, and goes right along with a lot of other unhealthy things like playing video games as an adult, masturbating to internet porn, etc. You'll also notice all these bedroom "pastimes" require a good bit of rapid hand/finger movement.

Playing music shouldn't be the equivalent of mashing buttons on a video game controller or furiously jacking your tiny dick, which is obviously what 7, 8, and 9 string guitar players believe.

I think a lot of that stuff like Cap'n Jazz maybe what you're thinking of is done with "voicing" which I dont believe is really that focused on scales exactly. It has more to do with chords, arpegios, etc. which are then done higher up the neck but not bar chords. I dunno I never learned voicing whatever it is if that's even it anyway. Guys I need some help/advice. I dunno when this became a problem, maybe it always was and I just never noticed, but the intonation on my high E string is pretty off up the neck. It's noticibly flat at the 12th, even after adjusting m saddle and shorting the overall string length. After refreshing my memory with Cowboy Dan but not verifying with my phone guitar app exactly what he's playing I'll just take an educated guess and say that good news yes for the third bulk portion of the song that's very "beautiful" while he sings about walking and looking down etc. that yes fortunately learning the major scale will be a "magic bullet" to write that kind of stuff. Learning the complete 12 fret major and pentatonic scales back and forth will "help" you write things like the rest of the song but by just an arbitrary guess of maybe 20%. Then 50% of this song in my personal opinion is blistering lyrics, 30% vocal melody, and then the remaining 20% is built around those. In other words creating something like that 20% isn't going to necessarily get you closer to the other 80% of this song. However like I said though good news is that one portion does seem to much more heavily lend itself to revolving around pure scale knowledge.

My pleasure. For Trailer Trash I very strongly recommend you prolifically write basically open chord strummed songs of course complete with lyrics. Meaning that these songs will almost if not exclusively be built around open chords but then of course incorporate bar chords as needed . Then also of course individually picked notes as desired. You should even use the same very basic open chord compositions to then write completely different vocal melodies. This is basically what Trailer Trash is which is emphasized by the portion of the song when the instrumentation practically stops and there is only vocal melody. Again in my opinion about 50% blistering lyrics if not even more in this songs case which I'm not exactly a fan of otherwise.

So, Clayton Ultem 1.2mm, Clayton Black Raven in 1.9 mm, Dunlop Delrin 500 or Gator Grip in 2mm. By the way, if you're wondering, the Jazz I is fucking horrible, and the Jazz II is actually not that bad.

Kumbaya is kind of a trick question in your defense. The second part of the first vocal melody verse changes but the chord doesnt. Of course this depends on your vocal range and arrangement preference but I think for a baritone guitar arrangement it's best at open E maj and open A maj which is super easy and obvious. However the vocal melody then changes so it's tempting to change the chord but that's wrong. The same thing is just played again but sung differently.
