I'm looking for replacements for the bridge pickup on an Epiphone Rivoli II.

I was going to get a DiMarzio DP120 to replace the neck pickup, but I have no idea where to look to replace that mini-humbucker in the bridge position.

Any recommendations? Does anyone make a drop-in pickup with those measurements?

Guys, I think I'm going to have a gf soon. We've hung out a few times and I'm asking her on a proper date next week and will kiss her.
This is significant because she thought it was cool I play guitar and thinks my red flamed maple Ibanez is gorgeous. She doesn't think it's a meme machine.

I think she's the one since most girls who have seen my guitars don't care because lol not acoustic or something

>>72141101
This might be a good thread to ask.

Started learning guitar a while ago now and I was going slowly to learn it properly and not hurt my hand.

It was going well until I started using my pinkie finger and tried some strength exercises. I didn't even overdo it or anything but now there is a sharp pain in that big pinkie muscle almost every time I press on the strings and not just when I use my pinkie finger either.

Thought it would go away if I just give it some rest but now I haven't touched my guitar in like a month or so and it's still there. What do? Stretching exercises and more rest?
>>
>>72142236

>Fenders are shit
I mean come on. This is just objectively wrong.

>Some Fenders are shit
>Fenders are overpriced for what they are
These are more accurate. Still generalizing but better.

Not very many manufacturers exclusively make shit instruments.
>>
>>72142282
Guitar is something that hurts to play for a long time. You don't get good at guitar without pain. Good luck learning to playing an F barre chord without your wrist wanting to explode for a while.
Your fingertips will hurt, maybe even bleed, blister and skin will peel.

12 years of playing later and my arms still cramp up when I try to play really fast, technical stuff.
>>
>>72142316
I own an American made Telecaster and I want to get rid of it. I haven't liked it since I impulsively bought it a year ago.

I will never play a fender again in my life.
>>
>>72142282
I had something like this happen with my wrist. It's not good to push it as you could actually do some damage.

I started doing exercises and light playing. When it hurt I stopped. After a week it was feeling better even when several weeks of not doing anything didn't help.

Stretches are important.
>>
>>72142359
>I bought a guitar that didn't suit me because I didn't research or know what I was doing but I'll blame the company I bought it from

Maybe you got a bad one, maybe it just wasn't for you. Whatever it was, that sucks man. Hope you find something better.
>>
>>72142359
so what you're saying your Fender's shit and you made a stupid purchase, got it
>>
>>72142359
But have you played a Strat?
>>
>>72142412
I did do research. I thought about it for a long time before.
The impulse was me buying it when I didn't really have the money after seeing it in the music store I went to.
>>
Is this new wavey enough?
Want to try and write shit like this
http://vocaroo.com/i/s0ixiC0kpJMN
>>
>>72142483
so you did research, then completely forgot the research you did, bought a guitar you decided you don't like and now you're all butthurt and whiney about it?

your mistake doesn't mean every guitar made by Fender is shit

maybe if you learned how to set a guitar up properly you'd like your tele a bit more
>>
>>72142536
>reading comprehension
I did research and decided I did like it. I made up my mind that one day I would get one.
Then I was in my music store getting a new pack of strings and saw the one I wanted, in the only acceptable color for a Tele, vintage blonde, and decided to get it.

Haven't liked it since.
>>
>>72141101
But does it djent? XDXDXDXD
>>
>>72142574
so you bought the guitar because it was a nice color and you didn't try it out properly

still not seeing your point here
>>
>>72142282
I've broken my fret wrist a couple times. So it lets me know if I'm getting out of hand with poor technique. I've been reverting to classical position a lot. Dealing with and working through minor pain has payed off with return of full range of motion.

With your minor aches, I recommend RICE. (rest, ice, compress, elevate). At least make a conscious effort to alleviate the small stuff. Ice for short periods every so often and an occasional nsaid. You've got your joints and muscles doing things they're not yet conditioned for so put yourself in a good position to recover and improve.

Unlike the other guy, I'm going to be a bit more constructive here for a second. Getting a little tired of the shallow shit-throwing here.

I've gotten a guitar before but realized it wasn't for me after about a year of owning it. Shit happens. It was a Charvel San Dimas HH. Great guitar, not for me. I got it after tons of research and loved it at first. I didn't love messing with the floyd bridge but I got the hang of it so it wasn't a big deal. I wanted the freedom to bend however I wanted. It was actually really stable once I got it set up right. and all was well for about 6 months.

Eventually I realized that I don't play with enough gain to really need the humbuckers, single coils sound better to me. Eventually I realized that I didn't like satin finish necks. Turns out I also don't like medium jumbo frets. I found out over the course of a year that I disliked pretty much everything about the guitar just a little bit. It was a bunch of minor things that I thought would be pluses when I got the guitar and tried it out but they ended up being minuses.

The difference here is that at some point I LOVED the guitar and you never had that. Next time I would spend more time playing a bunch of instruments, even ones you might not like. Really figure out what you do and don't like. Forget about what other people say is good. Find out what sounds good to you. If you do it right, you'll start finding awesome guitars that do exactly what you want and sound exactly like you want. It really helps if you go to the store and try out a bunch of stuff when you aren't shopping for a new guitar to buy. You'll try stuff out without thinking about the price, or whether you really need it. Great way to branch out.

Sometimes you get a guitar and realize it was a mistake later on. But hating the guitar from day 1 shouldn't be a thing.

Is there a way to simulate slide guitar with technique only, no pedal or whammy bar fuckery?

>>

>>
>>72144440
forgot link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkdKLScgGDo
>>
>>72144391
You'll be able to get something close with a slide and open tuning, but it won't be exact.
>>
>>72144480
Because I like low action and it's hard to use a slide with low action and also I hate having to put it on and take it off. I have other parts that I need to play that don't use slide so I just wanted to simulate it for a lick or two here or there.
>>
i look at the clock and i see i sanded for another whole fucking hour
>>
>>72144530
I don't know if there's anything specific you can do with those limitations. Try sliding into all of your notes and vibrato once you're there. If you never lift your finger as you play it might get you sort of there.
>>
>>72144391
bends and vibratos is the closest you can go

>>72144530
jimmy page used vibrato with low action and super light strings (9s and topwrapped) so you can do it to
>>
>>72144583
Thanks, that's kinda what I was thinking. Was just trying to see if there was any other solution.
>>
>>72144610
I play like that a lot on my hardtail guitars to get some variety in sound when I don't have a trem. It won't sound like a slide but you can get some interesting dynamics playing with it.
>>
>>72144530
If you're trying to use a low action, you're going to have a hard time using a slide.

You might go to a hardware store and get a small pipe that fits around part of your finger (like a large ring)
>>
Just got a pan pedal, this is fucking dank, I have a raging headache.
>>
I just got a blackstar Id:core 40 watt stereo amp and a sterling sub series silo 3 guitar for 250. Did I make a good choice or no? I am a poorfag and before this I was using a cheap Yamaha that a friend gave me with an equally cheap amp.

Hey everyone I can pretty much play as well as anyone but kind of dont know what to play
Anyone know of any good jazz or folk songs to bust out on acoustic that will impress both guitar players and good looking women alike?

If I were to measure how good of a player I am I can play every chord and bar chord fluently and can solo War Pigs

Is it common to have more trouble bending in tune on one string in particular? I feel like my bends are alright, but it always sounds like shit on my B string. Maybe it's because I'm bending up to the tonic so I'm just more sensitive to it sound off?

The note I'm bending up to is the tonic in the key I'm playing in. Like if I'm playing in A minor pentatonic in first position and I bend a full tone up from 8th fret G on the B string, I get A (the tonic). Pretty sure that makes sense. Does /gg/ just not into theory or am I being retarded?

Bending up to the tonic is never going to sound consonant, especially if you're doing a whole tone bend. Why not start on G# instead? Might sound better that way. Can you bend from G to A on your G string easily?

You can only really get away with knowing zero theory if you're incredibly strong at playing by ear, though, and even that probably wouldn't get you very far these days.
>>
>>72151426
I never said he wasn't catchy, but what he's saying makes no sense since he's still using harmony, rhythm, and melody that's been established for hundreds of years by music theory. Just because he doesn't know theory doesn't mean he isn't using it. FFS he's using a guitar that has frets for the 12 notes that are established from theory. Even Indian and Chinese music is more detached from theory than Eddie.

>>72151643
This. 12 tone guitar, triad chords. Knowing theory will only help you to understand why what he does works.

But you did learn theory, you just don't realise you're applying it. Ever gone from A to F#minor? Congratulations, you played the relative minor. Ever gone from B7 to E? Congratulations, you played a perfect cadence. Ever played Eminor - D - C? Congratulations, you played chords from a harmnised progression. Ever played a scale over a chord? Congratulations, you didn't just pick notes at random, you applied your knowledge of music theory to predict which notes would work over those chord changes.

You know some music theory, you just don't call it theory.

too heavy on the modulation, way too heavy. I love effects and by now my pedals have collectively exceeded the worth of my guitar and amp at around ~$8,000 of blown paychecks, but in actual recordings it's incredibly fucking rare that I have something dialed to 10 for any longer than 10-15 seconds. it's about accenting the song, not being the song (unless we're talking ambient/noise, but we're not). just a dash here and there. the only time I crank my effects all the way up is when I'm using them like toys and digging around for weird sounds. fuzz is a particular offender here, I don't think I've used fuzz on a single fucking recording but they're some of my most coveted pieces in worth and use.

that said, it's difficult to stick to minimal use if you're striving for a particular sound and your amp/guitar aren't conducive to it so you've gotta rely on effects to do the heavy lifting. in that case it's a real fine balance that I can't offer much help with.

Hey /gg/. I am new to electric guitar, I got a question.

I bought one of those beginner fenders because it was cheap, but I notice there is something off about it. The G string is extremely grating to my ears. It has a extremely tinny ringy distorted sound that my other strings don't have, doesn't matter if it's an open g or if im holding down a fret. I also notice the way the pickups work on it it seems the pickup for the g-string is slightly higher than the rest. It doesn't seem like I can adjust individual pickups, would adjusting my string help? Are fenders just like this and that's why nobody seems to like them? Help pls.

On a scale from 1 to 10, how played out is olympic white + tortoise pickguard on Fenders?
>>
>>72164118
I'm never going to get any anyway so who cares?
>>
>>72164480
wound?
>>
>>72164480
assuming you mean "wound" you're likely gonna need to dramatically adjust your intonation if you switch over
>>
>>72164791
It's probably pretty well played out. But only hipsters give a shit about whether something is "played out". I've got a jag bass in olympic white with a tort guard and it kicks ass.

Do you like it? Yes? No? Okay cool, that's all that matters.
>>
Newb here:

I need to stash my axe for some time (have a case and all).
Do I loosen the strings or do I retune every couple of weeks so they don't lose tension?
>>
>>72164791
there are maybe three pickguard colors that even work for white
>>
>>72165146
jus b urself
>>
i turn it up
i turn it down
i turn these knobs
just all around

come on baby
its plain to see
how much my guitar
just means to me
>>

*plays G D Am C E*
*shitposts on gg with guitar on my lap for the next 4 hours*

im never gonna get good
>>
>>72166145
Guitar is so boring at that level. Practice more and then you can actually have fun playing.
>>
>>72166195
im actually far above that level but i still do it anyway
im just on a quest to learn theory and i want to kill myself

I have literally never done that before. And it never occurred to me to do it.

Is arena level volume the only way to do these sounds?
>>
Random lurker here, thank you guys for having an op with information that actually helps to learn how to play, everywhere else I have looked just says Learn scales and chords then play songs :)
>>
>>72166823
Ignore our OP. It's autistic as shit and needs to be revised or gotten rid of.
Just watch YouTube videos for beginners and you'll find everything you need to know.

600 sandpaper is thin enough for sanding the saddles and nut? or it will still create buhrs?
>>
>>72167487
if you sand the saddles, after a while they will build buhrs again and you will have to sand them again for them to stop cutting your strings.
you have to buy proper gibson™ toanbridge™, instead of sanding your shitty bridge every week
>>
>>72167487
It's way too light if you actually want to take down material and not just polish it. Use 100-150 to get it down to size you want and then 400-2000 to finish/polish it.
>>
>>72166121
I would never advocate self-harm

>>
>>72167606
I dont want to actually take down material, like slotting a new nut. I want to sand buhrs away, so the saddles dont cut strings and the nut lets string slip.
>>
>>72167873
oh you mean on an electric guitar, yeah 600 should be fine for that.
>>
>>72167950
yes on an electric.
are you sure? i'm going to actually do it boi, i will do it boi you not trolling boi?

Got a new delay pedal and been playing with it all day. Here's some shitty 1 take improv. Not very experienced with delay... Only part I really like from it is 1:40.

Also yes it's quiet as fuck I know.

>>72166748
CAN ANYONE FUCKING ANSWER ME
>>
>>72168332
Sure.

>>72166748
Probably not.
>>
>>72168279
Best trick with delay is to get it playing a dotted eighth note behind you (or dotted eighth and a quarter, panned left and right) then play in time with the repeats.

>>

>>72168332
No. I already get some feedback with my little 10w amp turned to 13h. If you use a high gain setting you can get that easily. But its loud enough for neighbohrs to complain.
>>
>>72168392
Thanks for the advice. I'm going to be messing with this thing for months getting used to it. It really changes how you have to play and how you choose your notes.

You can hear me get lost numerous times in my clip because I can't improv the way I normally would. Trying out your suggestion should be fun. Thanks!

>>72168392

That was cool. Some parts sounded kind of familiar but I can't place it.

If you get addicted to delay on rhythm guitar then you've got to move to a unit with a programmable delay time. so you can match the repeats to the tempo. The trick used to be to divide 60,000 by the bpm and that gave you time for a quarter note so a dotted 8 was three fourths of that value. Now you don't need to work it out because most delay units let you specify a tempo and a note division.

If you're really addicted to the effect then you send MIDI clock to all your pedals and let them sort out the time divisions.

It's Jeff Loomis quoting part of a Bach piece in one of his compositions, I think.

The same for feet? Ive used it one but didnt feel improvemente besides it built additional dirt
>>
>>72168707
thank god im not your dad
>>
>>72168712
You play guitar with your feet?
>>
>>72168586
Being able to specify the exact delay time would be killer but for now a tap tempo is plenty for me. I'll mostly use the delay for some dimension roughly at tempo as opposed to needing exact staccato notes on beat anyways.

At least for now... GAS is a powerful thing and needs change.
>>
>>72168729
You play guitar with a baby?

Is that what we're calling it now? :)

how anyone can enjoy playing a guitar thats not a gibson model is beyond my comprehension

Tell me about it, I just this afternoon blew £210+ on cables. That's $263 for non-britbongs.
