>It's certainly a phenomenon in all walks of life.
What do you mean?
>Well, at one time, you've got it, and then you lose it, and it's gone forever. All walks of life: George Best, for example. Had it, lost it. Or David Bowie, or Lou Reed...
Some of his solo stuff's not bad.
>No, it's not bad, but it's not great either. And in your heart you kind of know that although it sounds all right, it's actually just shite.
So who else?
>Charlie Nicholas, David Niven, Malcolm McLaren, Elvis Presley...
OK, OK, so what's the point you're trying to make?
>All I'm trying to do is help you understand that The Name of The Rose is merely a blip on an otherwise uninterrupted downward trajectory.
What about The Untouchables?
>I don't rate that at all.
Despite the Academy Award?
>That means fuck all. Its a sympathy vote.
Right. So we all get old and then we can't hack it anymore. Is that it?
>Yeah.
That's your theory?
>Yeah. Beautifully fucking illustrated

Hey guys, I need help finding a guitar
I want to upgrade from my current/first guitar, a Squier Bullet Strat.
I was looking to spend around 250-350 euros, and I have been told by the guy in my local shop not to buy another Squier (because I was looking at getting a Jazzmaster)
I play gay indie shit and punk, if that helps.
I am also a Fender fag
I wouldn't be post this here, but I just missed out on the deal of the century because I was on holiday, a Fender Marauder in great condition for 390 euros. Pic related

I want to get gigs as sideman, wedding bands and everything

>>
>>71987288
won't help at all with actual work
get to know local musicians, find music students at unis and conservatories at their open stages and whatnot
connections are everything and the only way to get a way into the scene so you can play as a sub or fill a slot in a top40 band and stuff like that
obviously you have to be fluent enough with sight reading and be a proficient enough musician overall, but without knowing the right people you won't ever get the chance to show that

Each sound a bit different and fell way different

S7420, 24 fret and trem, sounds good coil split, needs better pickups for sure.

Ax7521, made in japan, short wcale, plays really nice, sounds great with the d-sonic+air norton combo.

Ael207, acoustic electric. Having a low dropped a sounds great with most acoustic songs, good for learning new shit late at night without having neighbirs call the cops.

Agile t7, single coik 7 string. Plays pretty damn nice, thicker neck but fits my big ass hands nicely.

I dunno, just always works for me. I wont make you justify your gear, but you wont post your shit ever.

When I find myself hitting a wall like that, it tends to be related to bad economy of motion. And that usually means I need to slow the fuck down, breakdown my technique as best as I can, and see what I can improve. Trying to brute force over some hump is rarely the solution.

Usually for me it's been related to excessive movement of some kind (i.e. fingers lifting too far of fretboard, overly wide picking arc), but it can also be posture/grip things that lead to unwanted tension.

Also, what exactly are you playing at those 190-200 bpm tempos? Eighths, sixteenths, or something else? Just trying to get a frame of reference.
>>
Do most tab makers just figure out the key and play some wank that sounds vaguely like the actual track or do they actually attempt to listen to the track and transcribe it note for note?

Because if they're doing the latter they're fucking terrible at it.
>>
>>71990779
Yeah, I really need to work on proper economy picking, and I need to look at my grip.

I'm playing eighths and sixteenths, and string-skipping. I'm slowly trying to get into tech-death, and as I said while it sounds good at lower speeds, 190+ just isn't precise. Anyway, I'll be spending way more time in the 120 zone and looking at technique.
>>
>>71990810
"transcribing note for note" is pretty much a given for accuracy but theoretical knowledge will make the process substantially faster, to the point where I wouldn't advise doing it purely by ear
>>
>>71990836
Might be worth looking into taking lessons from someone who's familiar with good technique and can do a good job of helping you develop it, especially at the point it sounds like you're at.

It's always good to have another (informed) opinion to point out things you might have overlooked. If you go that route, take your time finding the right person and ask around.

My band has our first show in a little under two weeks and our drummer just told us he apparently won't be in town that weekend
We're trying to figure out solutions and our guitarist suggested that we just use a drum machine since he apparently uses Ableton enough that he can get it set up, but the problem is that idk how it would even sound live
Are there any examples of rock bands that use drum machines live to good effect? I know Big Black and HANL but that's it and even HANL stopped playing shows because they didn't like the setup

>>
>>71992951
New frets is wayyyy more work. You can level frets that are only sorta worn in 10 minutes. Also, getting new frets has some inherent risk of damaging the fretboard and especially binding. Many frets have burrs to keep them firmly seated in the fretboard, so removing them can take out some wood with it, and putting in new ones can leave a gap. For maple boards your neck is likely less protected from moisture.

These are only risks, though. Still, I would recommend against a refret unless your guitar needs it.

Just goes hand in hand with identity politics these days. /rant

These executives have plooked the fuck out of me

And all I ever really wanted to do was
Play the guitar 'n bend the string like

I'll dwindle off into the twilight realm

In a semi-catatonic state
And dream of guitar notes
That would irritate
An executive kinda guy...
Well, I guess that one did the trick
If they only coulda heard it
Half-a-dozen of 'em woulda strangled

How much wattage do I need to play bass in a grunge band?

I got a 8x10 Acoustic cab from some guy on CL for dirt cheap, but I need a head. We have one guitarist who runs a 100 watt solid state half stack.
All these bassfags are telling me like 600-1200 watts like what the fuck. I remember gigging with 350 watts back in the day on bass with a loud guitarist and it was fine.

GOD DAMMIT I'M POOR I JUST NEED A CHEAP LOUD BASS HEAD.

300 will do you fine(though I don't know how loud that makes your particular speakers get), some people are just dumb. As long as you can play louder than the drummer, there's no reason to go louder. If they can't hear the drummer, you sound like shit. If the drummer is mic'd, so are you.

I kinda get guitarists exceeding these guidelines if they are using feedback a lot, but really all that gets you is like 2 feet further from your amp.

If you're anywhere near Manchester UK then I've got a 120 Watt Sound City all tube head from the 1970s that you can have for free. Not even joking, it's just taking up space here.

Old pic from when I had my pedals off my board for cleanup. I've changed the order since. I hate the harmonist, going to get rid of it. I'm going to sell the dd-6 as well. I love the fuck out of all the other pedals though.

Looking to add an el capistan or something similar in the future. Still researching though.
>>
>>72001692
>I hate the harmonist, going to get rid of it.
You made a wise decision. Almost makes up for the shitty decision to buy it in the first place. I guess they can sound good in the music store though.

>I'm going to sell the dd-6 as well.
Why? It's a perfectly good digital delay, everyone needs a delay pedal don't they?
>>
>>72001721
I usually have a pedal that I flip to try new stuff out. I just keep flipping it until I find something awesome, then pick another pedal to flip. Keeps things interesting. The harmonist was the most recent experiment and man does it suck ass. I'm not talented enough to make it sound good.

The dd-6 IS a perfectly good delay. As I said I'm probably going to replace it with another delay like the el capistan. I want the delays to degrade in a different way from how the dd-6 does. Digital is really pristine. That said if I was made of money I would keep it instead of selling it to upgrade.

I'm glad someone liked it. The neck is super nice to play on. The pickups are kind of compressed sounding, but I won't change them because it grew on me.
>>
>>72001827
One of my Strats has Fender SCN noiseless pickups, they got a lot of criticism for sounding compressed but in a single coil guitar that can work really well. Andywa, I don't generally plan how I want a guitar to sound, I prefer to find one with an interesting sound and figure out how I can use that sound.
>>

That's a new word, it means "and anyway". You can use it if you like.

>>

Yeah, I like having guitars that all sound different and do different things. Andywa the plus side to compressed sounding pickups is that the tele plays heavy music like a beast. I love bashing out post-hardcore riffs with it.

I can't do that on my jazzmaster with crystal clear v-mod pups.

I have a nylon string classical and it doesn't have the right sound for folk type stuff.

It's just a 4 chord song using basic chords (Am, G, C, F), "This Cold" by John Frusciante, but man it feels good. I'm still a beginner, I'm glad my ear is improving
