It is actually called ASLSP and the point of it that each note is sustained "as long as possible". Playing it on the organ is a stunt as the sustain is much longer but playing it on piano gives a much shorter work which easily fits on a CD.

I'm a music conservatory graduate. I spent years analyzing music for grades, so when I come across something that's garbage, I know. Mozart's music has the melodic complexity of a train horn (actually less; train horns often are tuned to a tritone, which seem to be absent in his music) and the lyrical complexity of his non-traditional vocal works barely surpasses 3rd grade vocabulary. Not only is this music intended for ignorant audiences, it's intended to turn impressionable young people into bad composers. How's that for an unpopular opinion?

>The efficacy of a tradition, however, can be weakened by swamping it with a host of minor figures, and we have seen this happen in our time. The fashion for Baroque music has awakened the interest of recording companies and concert societies, and the novelty of an unknown figure has a brief commercial interest. A brilliant essay by Theodor Adorno mocked the way the taste for Baroque style reduced Bach to the status of Lully, obliterated the difference between the extraordinary and the conventional. Concerts of music by Rameau, Albinoni, or Locatelli are bearable only for those music lovers for whom period style is more important than quality.
Why do plebs pretend that baroque composers outside of Monteverdi and Bach are good?

They're alright for giving a cross-section of some of the best composer's works. Inevitably some of the best works will be missed (even very famous ones) due to the 2-Disc limit. The actual recording/orchestra quality varies as they aren't hiring famous conductors or performers to keep prices low. The very best of Mozart and Beethoven at least seem pretty good to me, but the Baroque ones I have mixed feelings on.
