"I began to have fantasies of becoming very powerful and stopping everyone from having sex. I wanted to take their sex away from them, just like they took it away from me. I saw sex as an evil and barbaric act, all because I was unable to have it. This was the major turning point. My anger made me "stronger inside. This was when I formed my ideas that sex should be outlawed. It is the only way to make the world a fair and just place. If I can’t have it, I will destroy it. That’s the conclusion I came to, right then and there"

The point of these threads is to critically analyse musical traditions from all over the world, including the western pop canon, and perform discourse on the topic. This discourse shapes what is allowed to be discussed and who is allowed to take part. As a shibboleth against lowbrows, the highest caliber of dank memes is used as communication. By doing this, we can create a utopia for true music lovers and colonise the planet, solar system, and galaxy. Every single utterance here is broadcast wirelessly, somewhere, some time, and will as such be launched into the infinity of space.

in the meantime though I just saw The Districts, and they were hands down one of the best bands I have ever seen live—worlds away from their studio shit, infinitely more emotive and a much more experimental approach, especially to guitar playing

Evening blog.

For the first time in a long while, we're finally having a class that I find interesting - psychiatry and psychopathology. Started today, and we have the faculty's best lecturer as our main teacher, which is great. Snagged DSM-5 from Amazon for 29 gbp (!!!) and eagerly awaiting its arrival, really hope it's not some weird scam because we ordered five copies.

Long day today, though. We had planned a presentation with one of the doctorate students at our university, but for some reason every single class at the psychology program had been scheduled elsewhere, so we had to cancel and move it to may. Shame, I was really excited to hear about the emotional development of bilinguals through the life span.

Home alone for the evening, not sure what to cook. Considering making a carbonara, but that means I have to go grocery shopping, which I don't feel like.

Also finally managed to buy a used bike, just like I wanted. Pic related, super happy, got it for 300 euro. Unfortunately it's in Stockholm, so I ot my dad to pick it up, and my mum will be visiting me in about two weeks, so she can get it to me then. So hyped.

Please respond.

just watched a really fascinating documentary last night.

First Contact is a documentary from the 80s that uses footage shot from Australian prospectors who were the first white people or outside people at all to enter this community of a million people living in central Papua New Guinea. The team of 3 people brought a camera with them so there is first hand footage of the interactions. And as this haooened in the 1930s and the documentary was from the 80s there are first hand accounts from two of the surviving Australian prospectors and many native people on what it was like when they first encountered one another. The native people thinking of them as ghosts and spirits. The prospectors exploiting the labor and intrigue of the people into working for and helping them. Its incredibly interesting to see a first colonization.Incredibly unique since there is film and first hand video interviews between peoples who had no idea of one anothers existance. shows what must have felt like a supernatural experience for the native people and shows how whites can build god complexes and exploit people and how this type of historical interaction happened in so many places around the world but there isnt a whole lot of documentation.

ebin post

It's not really easy to compare salaries across countries, but a newly licensed clinical psychologist in Sweden earns about 30% above the median salary in Sweden, which is decent enough. The shitty thing is that there really isn't much of a progression in salary with experience - after 20 years in the field you'll only earn, on average, about 25% more than you did when you started, and that's more or less the roof.

Academia on the other hand has a better progression - Ph.D students earn a bit below median salary in Sweden, lectors earn about the same as a psychologist with 10 years in the field, and professors earn about twice the median salary in Sweden.

It's not fuck you levels of money, but it's a comfortable living. And yes, everyone who studies the psychologist program will be licensed if they want to, there's a shortage of psychologists so every single clinic in Sweden is looking for people to work toward their licence. Also, salaries are on the rise due to this shortage, so there's a good chance clinicians will earn much more by the time I graduate.
>>
>>71822829
Miscalculated, freshly licensed psychologists in Sweden have a wage about 40% above Sweden's average (which is higher than the median, so probably like 50% above median).

I love how this was tagged with "Post Exotica" when I downloaded it

Mike Cooper - Fratello Mare
>Electroacoustic Exotica + Field Recordings

I was not even AWARE of a genre called "Exotica", which could also be called "Polynesian Influences." Actually having lived in Hawaii for a good portion of my life, I laughed hearing Lap steel guitars from this album. Their prevalence in malls, airports, local radio and TV, and music culture have left a permanent dent in my ear, of exact shape of one of them. Hearing them instead of something more traditionally Hawaiian is a bit disappointing, as the cover art itself depicts an ancient canoe.

In this album, the guitars, drums, and bass tend to play their own melodies or harmonies, oblivious to the dissonant tones made by vibraphones, synths, and singing bowls. The comparisons to vaporwave are very definite, especially on tracks like Secret Mexican Beach or Complicated Sky. It reminded me of some sort of bizarre Indie RPGMaker game, in a simple easy listening + drone combination. It's familiar ground, and not very memorable.

If you're still curious, just give the title track a listen to know what you're getting into.

>Neil Young - Neil Young
Not very Neil at all. Quite ornate in production and poppier than the usual but I can't say I didn't enjoy it. 3.5-/5

>Neil Young - Time Fades Away
A bit loose and lo-fi but really great. The gentler songs like Don't Be Denied, Love In Mind and The Bridge are lovely, some of the more guitar driven parts don't work quite as well but shit like The Last Dance rocks. 4/5

>Neil Young - Tonight's The Night
He really is one of the greatest songwriters ever. It's depressing but like On The Beach Young has such a knack for making you almost feel good about it, that as shit as things are there is still hope. I almost wish he'd felt like this more, these albums he released during this period are ridiculously good. This doesn't quite reach the heights of the B-Side of On The Beach though. The slide guitar is a really nice touch and adds to the atmosphere a lot. 4.5/5

i accidentally deleted my explanation so here we go again...

in this tourney, I pick the players!!!! seven people have been selected by me to play the game with one free spot for some random person!

the universal rule is under 50 minutes. if you cannot comply to this rule you will be allowed to break it but only once, so use your free pass wisely.

the rules for the first round are simple: you must pick an album from a country that is bordered by the country you live in and/or were born in, whichever is more convenient.

I.E. if you live in USA, you get to pick between Canada and Mexico for your album.

good luck!

Kid Dynamite - Shorter, Faster, Louder (2000)
>melodic hardcore, punk rock

The fact that I really like Gorilla Biscuits keeps on pulling me back into these melodic hardcore releases, and I keep on getting disappointed. This isn't a terrible album, it's energetic and a few melodies are nice, but the shortness of the tracks and the album, coupled with the natural tendencies of the genre, makes for an insanely tedious, monotonous listen. Hardcore should feel urgent and heavy, this feels limp and tired.

Barbecue Bob - Chocolate to the Bone (1992)
>piedmont blues, country blues, acoustic blues

Barbecue Bob is one of the most likeable bluesmen I've ever heard. He's got such a warm, charismatic tone and delivery to both his vocals and guitar work, and the melodic tendencies of his songwriting adds to these qualities tenfold. There's some repetition in his songwriting especially in the songs on this comp not by Bob, and I'm not fully on board with his more simplistic, strum-based style of guitar playing much different from the fingerpicking/slide work of other blues guitarists, but this comp is awesome nonetheless.

Darkside - Darkside (2011)
>microhouse

I'm not a huge fan of what I've heard from Jaar's solo work, so naturally this is just kinda eh to me as well. The soundscaping is cool, but the more beat focused segments of this EP aren't done well, I don't particularly like light and airy dance music and this is about as light and airy as it gets. The rock elements are cool, though, and it's a pretty pleasant listen, just not one that I really particulary enjoy.

>Neil Young - On the Beach
This is only my second Young album I've heard, and although I liked After the Gold Rush, I was never too big on Young's voice. Here the songwriting is a bit worse and I don't like his voice much here either. It was pretty uninteresting across the board for me.

Weird noisy musique concrete that manipulates the sound of human hearts. Very unsettling atmospheric drones. Every song basically starts off very minimal and eventually climaxes into pulsating waves of noise. This sounds like something I'd absolutely adore, and while I did like it okay, the "heartbeat" gimmick somewhat limits the scope and variation, and most of the tracks just dragged on too much.
6

EthyBoy recs:
>Earthless - Rhythms from a Cosmic Sky
I don't really have much to say about this record. It's basically just a 40-minute guitar solo. While the playing is very impressive, and these guys' energy NEVER lets up, by the time the second track came I was ready for this to end. This is probably something I would have liked a few years ago, but (forgive me for using this buzzword) nonstop guitar wankery isn't for me.
5

triangle recs:
>Cluster - Cluster II
Going into this I was expecting to like it a lot, and it did not disappoint. Very much in the vein of one of my recent favorites, Music von Harmonia (which isn't a surprise at all considering Harmonia is Cluster + a member of NEU!), although much darker. This album sounds just like a bad acid trip, and I absolutely love it.
8, with potential to go up

Thanks for playing, Darklands and EthyBoy!
The final round consists of some trip without a name and a three-sided polygon raised to the power of three. Send me your recs, you saucy bastards. The only restriction is no Fishmans.

Once I finish this tourney I'm gonna do this little Gero chart simultaneously with my jazz chart to help break up the monotony a bit. Any essentials I'm missing? I've already heard Moenai Hai.

No, I'm not doing Showa or the shitting one.

Also please please please listen to Monei Hai (it's a 5/5 from me)

i also suggest listening to Senzuri Fight Back if you enjoy Instruments Disorder (the best one on that chart rn, and their best album which is also a 5/5)

I sorta made a new rating system on RYM for myself so I'm now gonna use it in my charts too.

Gero's debut wasn't particularly anything special, but it was solid noise and surprisingly varied.
I expect it to get much more interesting from here on out.

Goodie Mob - Soul Food
>Southern Hip Hop, Political Hip Hop
Lyrically, this album is stellar. It's definitely the number one thing that is gonna make me want to comeback to this record in the future and really try to pay attention to every bar.
All the flows are really tight and groovy as well.
The thing that kinda hold this back from being fantastic for me is the beats. They're all p good, don't get me wrong, they're all just a little too mellow for my taste. I was groovin' alright, but it would've been nice to switch it up a little. There aren't too many memorable beats on this record, not like a lot of my favorite hip-hop LP's.
I have a strong feeling this will grow on me though, cause I was really enjoying this record more and more as it went on.

Lamp - Koibito He
>Shibuya-kei
It has an easy listening feeling some japanese music has that is kind of a turn down. But apart from that it's a good album. It feels ecletic, going sometimes jazzy, sometimes poppy, sometimes bossa nova, but you always feel like you're listening to the same album.
It's different from anything I ever listened but the easy listening quality makes it seem familiar.

Levon Vincent - Levon Vincent
>Deep/Outsider House

Went in expecting some kind of pretentious house record by a producer willing to take a big step... and I guess I got that? Thankfully, it wasn't agony to listen to. Definitely shows its Outsider and Techno influences with the sinewy textures and bare bones Lots of leftover sound residue (hisses, clicks, static) that feel like layers of rice paper stacked over tissue paper. Not organic sounding at all, but I don't think that was the album's goal.

Overall, nothing really jumped out at me. Felt more like a compilation of tracks from Vincent's backlogs of tracks he didn't release as a DJ.

Reminds me of The Field, but less ghostly. More like a picture of static on a screen, rather than watching static itself.

>William Parker & In Order to Survive - The Peach Orchard

This free jazz double live album truly has something for everyone. The variety they are able to squeeze out of bass, piano, drums, and alto sax is nothing short of astounding. While at the same time these tracks also vary in quality, that is of course a matter of personal opinion. There are some incredible and inventive compositions and ideas on this record.

Simply put, I think if you are interested in free jazz in any degree whatsoever, you need to hear this album.

The way these people play their instruments sounds especially messy at some points, yet the way that each piece fits together in some way during the track struck me. It is organized chaos, yes, but as opposed to a lot of free jazz that I've heard, this record goes much heavier on the organized side than the chaos side.

yeah, the powerful flag lobby is not to be underestimated
>>
>>71847278
>Are you pro-becoming a state? Prob won't happen because people like the round 50.
Its complicated. imo becoming a state would work okay cause then usa would realize they need to invest here so we can get our economy back (they literally sent a group of 12ish wall street guys to come over and manage ALL of our publi finances. Theyre cutting off shit loads in education and other services in order to save money), we'd get our gun ban lifted, more tourism, and maybe theyd stop doing things like putting birth control in our water system.

Personally im a fan of becoming independent bc we're friends with everyone in latin america and US would stop abusin us, but nationalism has had some bad results here (google the ponce massacre) and the people arent very interested in it. The independence party could barely scrape up 2% of the vote last year haha. Also all the big nationalist figures are either dead or too old to do shit (like Oscar Lopez Rivera, that """terrorist""" that Obama pardoned) so really i think we'll eternally be stuck in this limbo for quite a while.

Ok Yeah you can consider that a terrorist but the island has shown a lot of support for him to be freed for some reason
