I also own one of the first batch of TT and this one.
This has an FX loop and the maximum gain of the TT is the gain at 1/4 here. They complete each other for different styles.

you can record directly on your computer like with the apogee jam or a lexicon alpha and have a digital amplifier.

alternatively, if you're not a total fruitcake and don't want it to sound like total ass, you can buy a mic, a preamp and then record like that.

i have a shure sm58 (which granted, is a vocal mic but what am i, a millionaire) and i use a dbx 286s as a preamp, then i plug those into the lexicon alpha (lmao) and put that shit in logic.

Most people do this to some degree or another. It's really next to impossible to have a "completely original" improv. It's all going to be licks and runs that you're fairly familiar with, but maybe putting a twist on it like starting on a different beat or holding some notes longer, and the way you tie them together with other licks you know will make it more unique sounding.

Either is fine, but if you think you'll end up using a 5 for certain covers or something go for it. I personally like 4 string, because I play with a pick fairly often. They're just a tad more comfortable to use a pick with. If you're just starting out, but sure to play with a pick and with fingers. Bassists are in love with dynamics, so playing in multiple styles is really worth it.

Have you tried either of them out in a store? That would be the fastest way to choose.

The 60's lacquer is essentially the best quality MIM JM they offer. Made with american parts and all. But other than the spiffy neck, it's not THAT much better than some of the cheaper offerings. The neck is nice though if you're into tinted gloss finishes and vintage frets. Which I totally am.

If you haven't tried out one of the Professional series necks, you should. Regardless of model. They're actually really nice even if they're a bit different. The lack of rhythm circuit was actually a plus for me as well. I hate the one on my Jag Bass.

It's funny you mention the 60's lacquer as it was also my other choice when I was shopping. But once I held the professional in my hands I was sold. Hope that helps.

Yo guys, I have a 1x15 Orange bass cab and it's sweet, love it. What's a good cab to pair with it?

It doesn't have to be an Orange cab just as long as it's under 500. I can push to 800 if it's really good. Haven't decided if I should pick up a 10" or 12" speakers in the cab to run with my 15". If not I might even pair my Orange 1x15 with another 15" like another Orange cab to make a full stack rig.
