Oops…) it occurs to me that I always thought she was a kind of weird looking girl anyway…I walked the 20 minutes home in the middle of the night, and was relieved to get back safe…I go inside, walk to the bathroom and throw on the light, and gasp when I see the massive hickie on my neck…of course, the next day the band is rehearsing, and when they see the mark, ask who I had ended up with…I lie and say it was a tourist type girl who had already left town…after a few weeks, friends start coming up and asking me if I had slept with the he/she…I feign ignorance at the whole matter, but I start to get angry because I felt I had been duped innocently, acted honorably, and now some sort of revenge was being played out…after a couple more weeks of this, I finally pulled “her” aside and said not so politely that if he didn’t stop telling people what had happened, that I would break both his arms and his legs…and that was the end of that…

>>
Getting my Strat in a few days and I'm gonna pick up a pack of replacement strings. Are 11's good on a Strat?
>>
>>71635157
Zakk Wylde uses tunings as low as Drop A on LPs so you should be OK as long as you have a decent string gauge.
>>
>>71635236
thanks, im currently using 11s on an sg. would they do the trick? sorry for asking for spoon feeding, i just havent taken the time to learn about string tensions or their relation to tuning and scale length.
>>
>>71635157
You just need a drill, a file and enough time to do a setup. Of course you'll probably never get your intonation right.
>>
>>71635311
no no no
you'll probably need 13's for drop b
>>
>>71635467
fugg, what is a superior guitar type for low dropped tunings?
>>71635540
will the low b really be that floppy? ive done c standard on 11s and it was a-okay.
>>
>>71635563
with the short scale length of an les paul you really want those strings to be as thick as possible to maximize tension and to maintain tuning stability for that low a tuning

>>
>>71635818
do you not understand how basic standing wave physics works
wave velocity equals the squareroot of tension over linear density
if you want low frequency (low wave velocity) you can increase the string's linear density (ie guage) and/or decrease the tension
if you don't want the damn string to be flopping all over the place, you need to keep tension constant, which requires an even thicker string than if you were to trade off both

so you can use 11s with godawful floppy strings, 12s with poor tuning stability, or 13s with normal tension

jesus fuck guys this is basic shit

I use 11's on a LP for C and B std tunings, and it's pretty comparable in feel to a LP in E standard with 9's. Not identical, but similar. Shift up from there for your preferred E-standard feel. (10's for E may mean you want 13's for B, etc). Starting point. Strings are cheap.

Depends on what you mean. If you do your homework, a really good-sounding acoustic guitar can be had for under $200 used. Specifically I'm thinking of an early/mid 90s Charvel 625c.

You've got more choices at a higher price-point, $350-500, again especially if you can do homework and buy used.

At $1000 you should be able to spin in a circle, throw a dart, and hit a quality-made guitar.

None of these will sound like a $4k Taylor and you shouldn't expect them to. But there are plenty of mid-priced acoustics that are well-made instruments.

If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. low E 5th fret is an A note in standard tuning. So in the key of A, thats your root note thats all. If you want to play in A# just move everything up one fret. etc.

Also bought a 1995 Jackson Kelly "Pro" in sparkle green metallic. There's one for sale on eBay now, only the 5th one I've ever seen. I owned three of the 5 that I've seen. Asking $1800 on eBay, I paid $1050 originally.

already got one. had it since 2009 and still use it all the time. i only use one particular setting on it though, its one i custom made myself years ago using the downloadable pocket pod patch editor. its a really really good modern high gain/delay solo tone with compressor which actually sounds amazing through my old fender twin. i use a power adapter though, that thing eats up batteries.

B) Ab Minor Pentatonic

C) A Minor Pentatonic

There's almost all of the currently sold HBs being reviewed on youtube. People like to buy these even for just a review.

Over 10 years ago I bought a HB bass, it was a jazzbass clone pretty much, the action was sky high and it was very neck heavy. Cheap as dirt tho. Gave it away eventually.

Now I am buying the semihollow PRS copy of HB seeing there's mainly positive reviews, assuming their quality has gone up. I'd say buy one with a huge grain of salt and remember you have 30 day return policy if things don't work out.
>>
>>71642561
Im handy enough with doing set ups and that and if i like how it plays i could invest in some pickups. Thanks for the advice
>>
>>71642644

Yeah, as far as I understood from a bunch of reviews the weak points are the nut and bridge. Nowadays HB makers are smart enough to take care of all the fret ends. They're rounded out first.
>>
>>71642509
They're pretty solid if you're either on a budget or you want to try your hand at modding. If you have some experience setting up and doing some tlc on guitars then you can pretty easily turn one into a real sleeper of a guitar.

>>
I have a stupid question.

Does playing on a metal oriented guitar make it easier to shred on it? If so, why?
>>
>>71642981
Thin flat necks with compound radius's are easier to shred on. Whether or not it's a metal guitar depends on the pickups and amp.

forgot pic. delicious Guild. top-tier headstock design going by aesthetics alone.
>>
>>71642981
Thinner neck profile, flatter fretboard radius and larger (jumbo) frets are all considered reasons why those guitars are best for shredding. Truth be told the vast majority comes down to practice regardless of what guitar you have but those things can make a difference for a lot of people.
>>
>>71643009
>bass
>blues

Because it's boring as shit
>>
>>71642981

Humbuckers. They tend to compress the sound a bit more, making stuff like tapping more audible.
>>
why do people have such as hard on for John Frusciante?
>>
I don't know, ask Roman
>>
>>71642981
If you want bare bone facts,a flying V and explorer have cutaways that may make it easier to hit the higher frets but you defiantly don't need a pointy guitar to play metal.

If you want meme magic the more points it has the better the guitar and the sharper they are the faster it plays.
>>
>>71642981
You can shred on any guitar with enough practice.
That said, the neck profiles on metal guitars make it more comfortable to shred for some people, but by no means that means it's easier to shred on any guitar, it's a matter of feel.
Something that almost certainly will be easier on X or Y metal guitar is access to the higher frets, shredding on the high register may become easier.
Also, you may prefer metal oriented guitars for shredding because they posess stuff such as locking tremolos and high-output pickups that make it easier to get into a shreddy vibe.
This is what I think anyways, you should have a go at the models you're planning on buying.

What's that really high pitched sound a lot of metal bands use called? It's a technique where you pluck the string with your thumb and it makes a twangy noise, i guess. Slipknot does it a lot, here's an example, it happens at the five second mark

Pinch harmonic. You choke up on the pick a lot and brush the string with your pickhand thumb immediately after picking a note. Zakk Wylde's use of the technique is what springs to my mind as the exemplar of pinch harmonics.

The E, A, D and G strings I did fine and the string wraps around the peg neatly, but the B and e strings were a fucking pain in the ass to put in (vintage tuners), and the strings have a few overlaps on the peg which I left because I just got frustrated with them popping out. Biggest aspects are flat compound radius necks and really extreme cutaways that let you into the higher registers more easily. Additionally, most have 2 humbuckers which give chords a little more power for rhythm and make things like tapping and legato more audible to the listener.

So yes, but that said you won't be able to just pick up a guitar and shred on it without practice. Additionally, some metal guitarists who are known for being shredders use very large necks, like Zakk Wylde.

I've been watching the tutorials in the OP in an effort to learn lead guitar. I've been doing just chords for years.
Is it that important that I hold my pick with two fingers like how they say? I've been holding it with three (thumb, index, and middle) for all of the years I've been playing.
>>
>>71646144
I'm sure I got it for like 120€ back then, but anyway it's worth it
I prefer it to any other bag or case I've ever touched because it's really light, has good neck and head support and the attached pocked is massive
also there's enough space in it to leave strap and clip-on tuner on the guitar, which is really convenient

>>
>>71646789
Just never act on your words lol just be like "yeah man sounds awesome" then dont do it

I wasnt interested in being in a band so I just never went to practice and next thing I know Im kicked out
>>
>>71646789

What's the real difference between Floyd rose's and Ibanez Edge bridges? I want to pick up a guitar that has the lo-pro edge but don't know if it going to be chink quality compared to the Rose
>>
>>71646951
I have both a guitar with an original floyd rose and an ibanez one (although not a really recent one)
I like the ibanez trem better because it's rounded so touching it with the palm feels better and the adjustments for intonation and height and string changing overall is much better
>>
>>71646951
Edge has multiple versions, some of which are ass and some of which are good, or so I've heard.
>>
>>71636874
those gibsons are all nice but the 3rd and 4th from the left are perfect examples why gibson is my fav brand
>>
>>71643514
ah its a meme. i should of have known

anyone here have a yamaha spx 90? thinking of getting one
>>
I'm a poorfag and cant afford a good amp

what should I do?
>>
>>71647564
I had a spx1000 for years
it does a good job at the 'crappy early digital reverb' sound, but the possible application of that is sparse
it's impossible to get a 'good' sound from it
>>
>>71647582
audio interface and amp modelling software

are they any good?

I don't know man, I used to use elixers a long time ago and liked the way they felt, but the low e kept breaking at the bridge. Didn't happen with other brands of strings so I don't know what the deal is.

Just tried out GHS Progressives and they feel decent but I'm still waiting for some strings that feel like God's gift.
>>

i got mine for $950

If you're using something like customforge to get CDLC and playing songs you want to know you're going to start getting used to playing at higher speeds and keeping time. You should still study daily.
>>
Just got an Ibanez jem 7v, not too happy with it, should i trade it for either a Music man jp6 or a Suhr classic pro/modern? Any owners of suhr here? heard only good things about them. I play everything from jazz to metal.
>>
>>71648559
You might try actually playing a guitar first before you buy it
>>
I have had it for the past few weeks and im not enjoying it, no where have i said that i havnt tried it. Thanks for the very helpful insight
>>
>>71648682
But why would you namefag as your guitar hero?
>>
Because i'm a retard

thoughts on the fender modern player telecaster? I'm considering getting one as my first more serious electric guitar (my only other one being an epiphone LP that I regret buying)
>>
>>71649089
They're literally Chinese Squiers with "Fender" on the headstock. Spend a little more and get whatever MIM floats your boat.

Go to a guitar shop and just try some teles if you want a tele. Buying a guitar without playing it first is stupid.

>>71649155
Another pointless post about where a guitar is made or the nationality of the people who assemble it. And squier affinity teles are amazing by the way.
>>
>>71649312
It's definitely relevant when they're deceptively leveraging their brand to charge $500 for what's effectively the same as a $300-400 Squier. I have no beef with cheap Asian guitars, just FMIC shenanigans.
>>
>>71649379
The end result is the same, you get a piece of wood with tiny bits of wire stretched across it that makes noises. Who cares what fender's business model is or what asian country it's made in. If it feels good and you like playing it thats all that matters.

What pickups to put in my Strat for Buddy Holly's tone?
>>
>>71646717
i live in a shitty village with no guitar shops around and work 11h per day so i have almost no freetime and when i do everything is closed.
>>
>>71649530
Assimilate his playing style.
Then you'll have his tone no matter what pickups you use.
>>
>>71649667
But certain pickups are better for a certain sound. I've also been trying to get his playing style down, but it's pretty unusual. He's a pretty underrated guitarist.
>>
>>71649794
You still have an amateur way of thinking. I had your mindset when I was in like 7th grade lol. I thought if I get all the gear my favorite guitarist uses i'll sound like him. Doesn't work that way.
>>
>>71641408
is the bass so sloppy and off-tempo it loses the vibe or does it get by?

Pick 1, or order greatest to least

Also sort explanation welcomed
>>
>>71649794
I think Fender 54 pickups are the closest but the 57/62 are close too
>>
I bought the pedal in pic related and it should arrive tomorrow.

This pedal is not manufactured anymore, so if you want it you should hurry up. it also has a dlx version btw.

It has Tremolo/Harmonic Tremolo/Vibrato/Phaser
