I always laugh when I see some dumb 19 year old buying a guitar. It's like why, you dumb fuck? Why waste your time and money? You don't know guitar based music is deader than horse shit? What the fuck do you think's going to happen? Why do you think everybody in their late 20s and early 30s stops playing in bands? Go take a look at the lineups of all the popular music festivals these days. What's the average age of most of those bands? Why do you think that is? I'll tell you why: because being poor as shit is only fun when you're a stupid ass kid. Just as soon as your peer group moves on to adult pursuits you look fucking retarded playing the "cool kid who plays in a band". Trust me, when all your family and friends have stable jobs, kids, and nice houses your "artistic poverty" playing shitshows out of an old dilapidated rust covered van won't measure up anymore. It's like.. think about what your doing, you dumb little shit. What are you trying to achieve? Do you really think you'll be one of the lucky few who'll wins the lottery and has a successful career in music? I mean, really? Do you really think you're talented and smart enough to succeed in the music industry? Are you fucking stupid?

And don't give me all that "I do it for myself" bullshit either. lol, no fuck you don't. You're doing it in the hopes that one day it'll garner you some peer recognition, you're hoping it'll help you climb up socially one day. You do it because you're a fucking loser who wants to desperately escape the societal pecking order you feel has marginalized you. Name a famous guitarist who started off wealthy. Oh, you can't? That's who you think you are, loser. You want that same success and you know it. Only problem with your plan is noone cares because guitar music doesn't matter anymore

Go to school, get a real job, and stop wasting your time trying to score "cool points" with other impressionable moron kids like you. You ain't gonna make it, you fucking idiot

Get a fucking clue

There's still 3 weeks left on the offer and 8 people are watching it so I guess the next time someone tries 250 I'll accept.
I just want to buy a new guitar but on principle don't want to buy it before the old guitar is gone.

I used to gig several times every week and do session work from time to time ( I have several recordings on pretty big labels). Then I got a chronic headache that keeps me from playing guitar for more than an hour at a time. Still trying to accurately diagnose it, but on a musician's income in the US you basically have no income and I can't afford all the tests I need.

Alcohol and pills are the only thing that numbs the pain. Shit sucks man, I really want to get back to gigging. Healthcare in this country is so fucking backwards

hired gun in Atlanta, mostly bass.

I occasionally go up to Chapel Hill and the like if the pay is good enough (it has to be A LOT) but I usually stay here. I sometimes play guitar too, but I keep to bass because I've been going to Nashville often these past few months and there's no fucking hope to getting a gig there because it's probably the best place on earth in terms of being able to just hire someone to play guitar.

My advice would to never stop playing. Some of my best riffs I've written came to me when I was noodling mindlessly while watching netflix. Also when you write something that sounds good to YOU, show it to your musically inclined friends or aquatancies. Even if that means a shitty recording on your phone. Oh well I guess. I sold both the gold top and the Marshall in 2013 anyway. Probably posted pics of them 5 times or less. I miss the tone of that LP tho. I'm actually planning on buying a Japanese LP clone when I get my tax return to fill that void. Gibson makes fantastic sounding guitars but I've got my heart set on the aesthetic of a LP custom and I can't justify the price of even a used gibson LP custom these days. Especially for a guitar that won't even be my main bitch.

I just bought a 50's special edition rangoon red stratocaster, I've never heard anything about 50's strats but I've seen demos on youtube and they seem pretty good. I got it for 200 bucks off for 600 on the musiciansfriend deal of the day a few days ago. My amp is a voxac10

The gold top was a signature T that I put a "standard" truss rod cover on and put nickel covers over the open coil classic 57s.

>>71554667
Yes actually. Also old Burny's with nitro finishes from the 80s. The edwards seem to be more consistently nitro and I kind of prefer the headstock inlays they do over the classic gibson split diamond.

A Native Instruments library and Cubase. Other than that I don't know, you can look up the specs and compare them if you want, they're probably on a similar level. Just noticed I didn't even post the right model. Classic Player Baja is what I'm looking at.

If I wanted to switch to individual saddles for each string, would I have to swap the entire bridge? Is there a point in doing that? I didn't notice any intonation problems during the 2 hours I played it at the store but then those might only pop up after the first string change...
>>
>>71555421
>>71555449
Indeed. Take this example of a fake guitarist:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-6vLfDEpL8

An untrained person might mistake the illegal looking one as a real guitarist, but he actually posted his music in a soundcloud thread here on 4chan several years ago, making him a fake guitarist. It's simple, really
>>
epiphone es 339

y/n?
>>
>>71555498
Yeah, you'll have to switch out the whole bridge, unless you want to drill new holes in the stock one (not recommended)

Intonation can be a minor problem, but there are ways around it, like pulling the saddle in between so both strings are only slightly out, or buying compensated saddles that are a direct swap.

If you like the bridge in the pic you posted, you should try playing a guitar in the store with it to see if palm muting feels better on it or whatever your playing might run into. Some complain of cutting themselves on the traditional ashtray.
>>
>>71555612
I've not found palm muting to be a problem. Tell me more about those direct swap saddles.

i've been wanting an es-335 but guitar center is the only one with an arch top epiphone in stock, and it's the 339.

it's got a nice sound for sure (especially when i demo'd it through the Vox VT40 that i eventually bought) and felt real comfortable when playing.

It's either that or a Grescht, but no one really has those in stock either, and the few they do are all super thick, to the point where i feel like i'm strapping on an acoustic guitar (which i hate playing standing up). the 339 has a slim profile but sounds great all around, plus the ebony finish looks nice and slick.
>>
>>71555679
Thanks senpai.
>>
>>71555687
I know it's a faux pas to buy without playing, but I got my es-335 pro from musiciansfriend and there were no problems with the fit or shipping.
I had the same complaint about the Gretschs I tried but they have their place if you want a bigsby.
>>
>>71555731
don't get me wrong, the gretschs sound great even without the bigsby, it's just i'm looking for an archtop for gigging and if i'm going to be standing and playing for hours at a time i want something that feels comfortable, and so far the 339 is the only archtop that doesn't feel like complete shit (either too heavy or too thick) out of the few i've gotten my hands on.

I don't really have any qualms about buying online, so long as i'm able to demo one before making a decision.

Why am I playing such a plebbish instrument like the guitar
>Tfw can't even use all 10 fingers to play
>>
>>71555759
Eh, if the es-339 suits you, then I say swing. The es-335 would be heavier and larger, or rather the es-339 is lighter and smaller. I'm just not sure if the pickups are the same. Epiphone's pro buckers are really sweet to my ear, and it's a limited edition model that's been in production for like five years which says something about its popularity, I guess.
I keep picturing your guitar store like the one in my town, but there's no guitar center here, so we live in different places. I can't think of any other suggestions, other than that if you're comfortable with the idea of shipping back if it doesn't suit you, the es-335 Pro tops the Dot pretty easily, and I even prefer it to the Sheraton. It comes in black, too.

Yeah, I played and sang songs I wrote at a bar open mic downtown, and received a lot of compliments from both sexes.
Also covered some Galaxie 500, Joni Mitchell, the Good Life, and Bright Eyes.
The songs I wrote were just four (or less) chord strumming with a little bit of flourishes here or there, but I always got a good reaction.

Actually got better reactions from doing poetry, or karaoke though. There's something about playing music live that seems to make people that enjoy it shy about talking to you.

i live in a relatively large college town, so there are a few mom and pop shops around, but a lot of them specialize in "band" instruments and less so on "hobby" instruments (like guitar, bass, drum, etc...) so Guitar Center is basically the only place to find anything that isn't a strat or les paul or copies of those.

I had a local guitar shop near my hometown that i would frequent (even did an "internship" there in high school for a senior project like 6 years ago) which specialized in a lot of acoustics, arch tops, and hollow bodies because those were their biggest sellers. On one of my days off i might give them a call and see if they have a 335 in stock, and if so i don't mind making the 2 hour drive to test it out and possibly even buy it.

>>71555845

I personally think that 95% of everyone that plays blues is a poser. I include myself.

Why?

It doesn't have to do with race or profession or money.

It has to do with the fact that the vast majority of us guitar players discovered blues when we were learning guitar. We learned our first pentatonic scale and as it turns out, we could make something sufficiently resembling blues with it. So maybe we got sidetracked on our way to learning jazz or shred metal or whatever and started to learn about this music that we could reasonably imitate. I sincerely had no idea about blues until my first teacher pointed out, hey, here's a blues scale.

And suddenly I am a bluesman. A 14 year old white, hispanic bluesman.

So do I like the blues because I have a sincere liking and respect for it? Or because I found out I could somewhat play it and tell people, hey check me out, I'm playing blues!

So I've been on this lifelong quest to escape that and to gain some sincere understanding of the blues, and I don't think I'm quite there yet.

You didn't study any kind of material properties, did you anon?
>what is hardness, tensile strength and compressive strength
I included the disadvantage as to not be biased towards it but if you want to be retarded by all means.
The important thing for guitars is the shrinking and swelling being reduced, with less water content the wood reacts less to changes in humidity and temperature.
Also most woods sit waayyyy above the strength prerequisites to deal with guitar strings, Please anon don't be dumb.

Then they play a couple of bendings while making faces and call that "playing with feeling". Honestly 60 years ago blues had meaning, it was some ethnic cultural thing, but nowadays it's just an excuse for an easy and lazy wank.

>>
>>71556389
Yeah, blah blah blah.
>the strength is decreased
>decreased
Fact: the kiln drying process is plenty enough to diminish moisture related shrinking and swelling issues. Baking maple is an unnecessary process which decreases strength of the wood by your own admission. What good does it do for the wood to become *slightly* less susceptible to changes in humidity and temperature if the wood becomes weak and brittle as a result of the baking process? There's a reason why Gibson used that shit on those Custom Classic fretboards, it was WAY cheaper than Ebony and their Rosewood had been confiscated by the government at the time. It's a cheap garbage material they used because they were in a bind, nothing more. The fact that Gibson went straight back to rosewood when all that shit was over should be enough evidence for anyone to accurately gauge suitability the of baked maple on guitar necks.

I've always wanted an LP custom, but obviously I'm not rich or dumb enough to pay the 5k they are here.

There is a sale on Epiphones right now. I am leaning towards the White custom pro just because it's the cheapest.

Thoughts and recommendations?

See >>71554763. Go get an Epiphone LQ Custom, they even come with nitro finishes like a real Gibson.
>The Epiphone LQ series guitars are the highest quality Les Paul copies ever made in Japan, and one of the best kept secrets of all the Japanese made LP copies. They're basically Fujigen built versions of Gibson Historic reissue guitars. 50s style neck profiles, long neck tenons, open book Gibson headstocks, etc. and they have the "Les Paul model" decal on the headstock. They even have period correct lacquer finishes instead of poly.

I hate PRS and pretty much everything they do. I used to like them until I picked one up, then another and another and another. I just do not like them at all and they feel totally soulless, like a pacifica or something. Very very boring instruments to me that don't inspire me to write anything at all.

>>71557550
Ohhh here we go with this again. I don't want to buy second hand. I'd have no trouble buying second hand if it was here in this town so I could go and try it out, but there is no second hand dealers around here apart from shitty old cash converters which only sees strats now and again. I'm not buying second hand online. I won't ever trust that.

I know the electrics aren't the same quality and the finish isn't the same, but I tried a real LP custom once and then an epiphone and they felt pretty close to me.

Also goddamn that picture. I actually like epiphone's headstock. It looks classy to me. Gibson's always looked blunt, cheap and the fastest production method possible.

What Australia or some shit?

You're fucking crazy not buying a decent guitar you'll probably keep for the rest of your life for the same money. Buy one online with a 30 day return policy and send it back if you don't like it. Worst case scenario is you pay return shipping until you get one you're happy with.

You'll just end up selling the chink plank, why waste the time? Just go ahead and jump to a good guitar you'll want to keep for the same cash. Go get an easy ass part time job to fund the return shipping and quit when you find a good one.
>>

>Buy one online with a 30 day return policy and send it back if you don't like it
Shit don't work like that around here. You can't just send something back if you don't like it. You have to have a valid reason. If you receive a guitar and it doesn't work sellers refer you to the manufacturers warranty department and if it arrives broken you have to contact the courier company. The only reason I've had to return one before if because they sent me the wrong model.

Let's just pretend in fairytale land that I can return it if I don't like it. It can take a week to get here, so that means a fortnight of fucking around with the wrong guitar until I'm back at square one with a refund.

Keep for the rest of my life? A part time job to pay for postage? I already work. And just quit? Is that the way you think the world works? You can just refund, quit and send back anything you don't like or when it's convenient for you? What are you on about? I don't know how much of a first class cushy life you yanks have there in america, but goddamn you have it easy if that's how it works for you.

Goddamn I don't even know why I come here anymore. You all seem to be yanks.

Sorry, not an australian, just got Tokai on my brain. Been looking around for the best way to get one here in Europe.

There seems to be a fair bit of dealers though, so there's always hope. Personally I wouldn't get a chinese one. The price difference isn't worth it in my book. A low-entry vintage-series is good value for your money.

Yeah. Postage is anywhere from $150-$250 for shipping a guitar into aus, then you've got import tax on anything over $1k now and now the government applies our local GST on top of that to tax imports further so I'd be better off buying locally.

We get ripped up the arse for guitars and pretty much everything else. I can't think of anything that's cheaper here than anywhere else apart from Maton acoustics and vegemite.

I'll probably just stick with an epi.

Zero. It really depends on the pedals (what are they, are they on, are they truly bypassed?), the total cable length and quality, the sound you want, the amp, the pickups...
