I stretch; do the most common spider exercise all over the neck; do any scale, first with 1/4s, then 1/8s etc; and picking exercises (any short lick that can be looped, increasing bpm each time). Then I just start playing / learning my current fav song or whatever.

If you can, go with a used amp. You could probably find a decent Fender or a Peavey Valveking within that price range if you do. As for a new amp, I guess a Vox VT would be allright. It goes well with a overdrive/distortion if you get tired of the somewhat limited gain selection.

The first few notes kinda remind me of classical gas.

I don't like the little strummy build up at ~0:14 but the part after it is nice. I don't like the way that the main phrase ends on 2 notes being alternated. That's the place you expect a flourish, instead it feels like the dullest part. That's just an opinion tho.

I'm actually working on my editing skills right now, not that I should have any excuse not playing it perfectly. But having stuff a bit off is good practice for editing, no one plays perfectly in the studio and if you're going to be recording people you gotta get good at fixing other peoples human mistakes.

No I legitimately was wondering if it sounded bad, I've been spending so much time listening to it, slightly touching the EQ and compressor, playing with levels to try and hear if it's in sync with the metronome. Man... I just started recording with mics instead of DI, and my clean sound is not insanely bad but my distorted recordings sound like a fucking can of bees. I'm using an SM-57 and MA-201. I've tried moving them all over, on axis, off axis, everything sounds buzzy, grainy, paper thin, weak and harsh at the same time. Fuck.

Amp is a Egnater Tweaker with new-ish tubes. I tried a few different guitars (US PRSs and an AVRI Jazzmaster), no pedals. Cables seem fine. Everything sounds good in the room, IMO. I will experiment with putting the mics a bit farther back and see if I can get some room sound. I also have a ribbon mic on the way, so we'll see.

I considered the sr505 as well, which is pretty much the same bass but with humbuckers. For the music I play (NWOBHM inspired band) the PJ setup works sounded more on par. I do with they made the 505 in natural, or at least something other than the brown.

Thats actually an SX franken bass. I wanted to learn setups, like plecking and such so I picked it up. It play well and I had parts sitting around so I kept sticking shit to it. A year and about $300 worth of parts in and Its now better than any mexi fender I've played, honestly. The neck was one of the "replacement" necks rondo sells for about 30 bucks. I decided one day to give it a shot because I liked the fret markers. A little steel wool to the back and some minor fret work and its a pretty damn good neck. Its somewhere between the J and P necks in contour.
