In the article it says a drug store chain offered to buy his lot and he said the musical instrument business has been on the decline for years now so he decided to take the money and retire.

This dude sold everything, guitars & amps, high school band instruments, keyboards & production stuff, drums, etc.

Is the whole industry really shrinking this bad?
>>
>>71342814
It's not necessarily shrinking, but big online retailers and huge chain stores are taking over. And that's nothing new either, it's happening in most other fields or has happened already.

Get a harmonica or learn how to play the flute. I had some interesting jazzy jams with a friend of mine who can play the ocarina, we'd loop something with our guitars and one of us would keep to the rhythm while the other solo'd over it with their guitar/flute/ocarina. Flutes sound very good against a dryer guitar sound.

Check the draw of the pedals. If its under 500mA you can do it.
If they are analogue pedals, there's a good chance they draw less than 20mA each. Digital pedals draw more like 100mA each.
I chain all my pedals off of a single 9v 2000mA supply.
>>
Might be a bit of a stupid question, but here goes
So if I were to buy a multi effects pedal how would I go about plugging it into my amp? I assume clean channel with the eq knobs turned to the middle? also for conventional pedals is there any sequence as to how the pedals should be laid out? i.e. should an overdrive be placed before a reverb, should a wah be at the beggining or the end or does it not really matter
>>
>>71348837
Multi-effects pedals are plugged in normally and you can still use the eq on your amp if you want.
With normal pedals, its typically wah>compression>drive>modulation>delay>reverb but you can rearrange things a bit if you like the sound better. Some people put compression later in the chain.
I recommend looking up some youtube videos on the subject though because I'm no expert.

>>71348947
>Multi-effects pedals are plugged in normally

No they are ideally supposed to go into the amps fx loop you effectshitter

i've been playing guitar for about 3/4 years and i'm alright, but i never really learned how to solo, I just got stuck in a rut playing what i enjoyed and never bothered to practice licks aNd scales.
I'd say i'm pretty physically capable, I can play alot of hendrix/rhcp rhythm stuff with nice chord embellishments etc but i just never progressed to practicing solos and licks because i found it tedious and i get carried away playing smoke on the water (joke calm down lads)

i'd like to start blues/classic rock style solos

What's the best way to pick it up?
learning some solos note for note?

help me get started on soloing bros

memorize the 5 shapes of the pentatonic scale and learn how to transpose them into different keys

after that you're pretty much 75% the way complete to becoming a guitar hero.
other scales just have you adding a few notes here and there to that basic skeleton shape.

I assume you can only transition between shapes when on a root note?
>>
>>71349687
dunno what you mean, but the scale/mode you are using will only have 5, 6 or 7 notes. all 5 positions makeup one complete 12 fret section of the shape. root notes help you to position the shape and add closure to a riff etc because you can end on a root note for added drama or something

you need to learn the shape in sections but eventually it should all just be one continuous road map of notes on the fretboard

Buy a loud amp that you like that has an effects loop, then buy a cheap volume pedal. When it's late plug the volume pedal in the effects loop and turn low as shit, then turn the amp to a volume where you still get the tone of the amp but at a significantly lower output
>>
>>71349395
Ace Frehley had already 100%d that quest at age 23

jus a suggestion, but i have a zoom g3 multi fx pedal, with a decent pair of headphones and i can't see how anybody would be disappointing with that practice tone.
Some pretty decent amp simulations, certainly more than enough for practicing with neighbors.

you can have upto 6 effects, or 5 effects + amp sim. Well worth the money

DOes using a SoundHole pickup affects the acoustic's resonance or volume?
>>
>>71348285
Can someone template this for me?
>>
>>71349838
That doesnt work dude.
The thing that turning "volume" up does to the tone is the poweramp's saturation. The FX loop is between the preamp and poweramp, putting a volume pedal in there is like decreasing the amp's volume.

It's fun but you've got to use MIDI clock with it so it syncs with the delay times, otherwise everything goes at different tempo and it all goes to shit. Not the most useful or versatile pedal but it's just loads of fun. Good on synths too, get everything running at the same tempo and it just goes CHUGGA-DUGGA-DUGGA-WUGGA for hours.. Which is never a bad thing.

Learn to sing?

But no, seriously; improve it how? Mixing is about getting a certain sound, so you have to have a final product in mind. Asking "how do I make this better" is kind of pointless unless we know where you want to take it.

If you want a radio music sound, for example (as in, it will sound good on an AM/FM radio), cut that bass just a little bit and raise the mids.

Fucking goddammit, /gg/.

I got this new guitar that's getting a pickup upgrade soon, and while I'm at it I'd like to change the control pattern because the volume gets in the way of my hand so I end up turning it down when I palm mute.

What I want to do is simple, go from (left to right) Tone-Switch-Volume to Tone-Volume-Switch but the pots and the switch have different size holes.
This was not a $150 guitar so I don't want to go through the trouble of modifying the wood and having to paint it all over again, so is there a way around that?

Lots of ways to be creative in the music industry. I've never been very good at songwriting. But I have learned to enjoy other people's talent for making songs, and then making part of it my own.

If making the song all on your own is what you're after, I guess just keep trying. Like a lot of things in life, you might not get it until you get it. And then you get it...and it's that much better. The root of joy is suffering to get it.

Not trying to be overly sappy. I just know that music can be very frustrating and very rewarding at the same time.

Can this design into guitar?
>>
>>71358518
sometimes you hear some really bad ass riffs though, but its rare
>>
>>71358531

there's a guitar version by Rickenbacker already, they only made a few though.

It's just a junior special p90, it felt fantastic and is probably one of my favorite guitars I've played. I love the style because my dad had an old 60s special in tv yellow just like it, and it has a special place in my hear. Originals are overpriced as fuck however

Em is a key though, not a mode
>>
>>71358683
If you read closely enough there's text on the top that says Dorian on one, then Aeolian on the other.
>>
>>71358666
But it's free. Plus 5 dollars
>>
>>71358701
You don't even know what Dorian and Aeolian mean.
>>
>>71358717
If I didn't then my guitar teacher from 10 years ago would probably shoot himself after all this time
>>
>>71358745
They are both the same exact scale shape. Only the root notes change. And instead of saying Aeolian mode, just say minor scale and be less of a faggot. "Favorite mode" is a retarded question anyway.
>>
why fender faggots do not make a useable fender style amp head any more
>>
hey gear heads, what youtube channel do you watch when you do not want to play and can not afford those fancy gears?
>>

Kingcobrajfs
>>
>>71359079
I usually just search for whatever it is I'm looking for and check out a few videos on it from random ones
>>71358915
I'm just putting specifics, but also being lazy and slapping something from google because I don't want to write something with paint tools on a laptop touchpad at 3 in the morning. I know it's a retarded question.
>>
>>71359131
Im not trying to be a dick im just showing that everything on guitar is the same.
For example, D Dorian mode and A Aeolian mode are the EXACT same scale every note in the exact same place. Just the roots change from D to A.

Lol i'm trying to sing but i can't

I dont know maybe something sounded bad for you, so much treble on a certain instrument, or something too bassy and mudding up the actual bass

You mean cut the bass instrument or the master EQ?
