So I'm a noob, today I was jamming with my bass to some motorhead and sheeit and when the pick started slipping in my fingers I was hitting the strings with the edge of the pick and my fingernails and it was adding some cool percussive harmonic polyrhythms over the fairly simple bass lines. My questions to knowers is: have I invented something new?

I'm assuming from the "noob," "sheeit," and the Motorhead that you're a complete pleb.

Parting from that I'm sure you're wearing a Sabbath shirt, Butler did it.

So did Entwistle, Geddy and Chris Squire.

So yeah you should actually listen to your pleb ass music sometime.

A few months. Most of the guys I played with were insufferable when it came to actually doing anything, and it was a guitar and a bass doing whatever by themselves while i sat and wondered if we were going do anything productive. Every time i tried to do the band thing. A few years later I jammed with 2 dudes for a while, one played a beat on a shit toy drum set while we'd improv a riff while the other improv'd a solo. Was ok.

>>71208504
There's too much low end in the classical making it clash with the bass

Guitar EQ
>HPF around 100-150 Hz
>slight cut in the low-mids (around 300-500 Hz)
>maybe slight boost to high/high-mids (around 2K range)

Bass EQ
>less aggressive HPF around 60 Hz (tames muddling sub frequencies)

I'd also add a little bit more reverb to the classical. It sounds too far forward in the mix compared to everything else

Good composition

Gear discussion/expertise is a crutch for people who lack technical ability to feel like they still have some prowess in some area.

Most people who are really good guitar players never talk about gear.

Be careful. This is how people end up becoming guitar techs for better players.

Face your fears. It's time to stop with the gear shit and talk about technique and theory.

About 1.5 - 2 years, I think. Started an electric blues band with a friend from high school, his friend who was a drummer, and this kid I met at a local show who played bass. A few months after that, the bass player and I started a death metal band with some friends that quickly grew into a more successful project.

I would give anything to be able to jam again with the drummer from the first band, though. He could play with so much soul and definitely had better overall technique.

With all the Epi hate, looks like I'm president of the goddamn fan club around here. All bullshit aside, I actually prefer the Epi head stock to a Gibsons because the Gibsons are angled a few degrees more, but you know what, let's not get too far into that.

Anyway, you Les Paul fags who can't afford a decent Gibson, listen up. You'd have to be stupid to pass up the package that is the Tribute Plus. It looks like it's the best option for us.

>Real Gibson '57 Pickups
>Grover Locking Tuners
>Mallory 150 Tone Capacitors
>Epiphone Hard-shell Case included

By the time you factor in a case into the budget for an Epi LP Standard, you're looking at close to what the Tribute Plus costs with barely enough change left over for 3 locking machine heads.

The only reason you might opt for anything else is the Goldtop which is available in the Standard Range (or plus top pro or whatever it's called nowadays) or the Custom Pro, both of which are very nice finishes if you're into that sort of thing.

Hey man aesthetics don't mean a lot. It's all subjective anyway. I don't mind Epis at all personally, they look classy to me, whereas the Gibsons look like a stock standard no-bullshit american standard design.

But Im talking function. Gibson's are angled slightly more than Epis and it's well known that both suffer from snapping when they are violently dropped or whatever, but I reckon Gibsons a little more so than the Epis because of that angle, the headstock hits the ground first and take the brunt of the force, whereas the Epi, a little more of the body is in contact with the ground before then. Or something like that. I dunno.
>>
>>71214630
Epiphone headstocks are bigger and weigh more, so it's even more likely to take a neckdive than a Gibson.

kek. Nope there are not. You need to do your research before you comment next time.
We're not talking about the standard Epiphone LPS models here. The Epiphone LQ series guitars are the highest quality Les Paul copies ever made in Japan, and one of the best kept secrets of all the Japanese made LP copies. They're basically Fujigen built versions of Gibson Historic reissue guitars. 50s style neck profiles, long neck tenons, open book Gibson headstocks, etc. and they have the "Les Paul model" decal on the headstock. They even have period correct lacquer finishes instead of poly. Show me a Burny Tokai Edwards or Navigator that has a historically correct lacquer finish.

I get what you're saying but Im talking about electronics quality and how long the switches are going to stay attached to the goddamn guitar, or how long before the nut just decides it's had enough and pisses off, or how long the machine heads are going to decide to hang on, or how long before the finish tarnishes. Chinese made stuff has a reputation of not scoring high marks on those all the time.

You really do get what you pay for, but that definitely stops at a certain point. You know, we all know a $5k guitar isn't 5 times better than a $1k guitar, but a $500 one probably won't be as good as a more expensive mid-range.
>>
>>71216022
learn basic guitar repair and maintenance
you can easily glue on a new nut, broken electronics are a breeze to fix with a soldering iron, pots and switches are literally $10, re-fretting is also easy etc.

I've bought cheapo guitars and upgraded them and i've owned expensive guitars and kept them original. I had more fun with the cheaper ones I could mess with honestly.
Just look at all guitars as pretty much worthless pieces of wood, and you'll have the right mindset.

Epi you get a very good guitar for a very good price. With Gibson you get an excellent guitar, but you pay for it.

both of them are equally shitty pieces of dead tree material with tiny bits of wire stretched across them and covered in paint

Alright /gg/, I'm giving up guitar after playing for 10 years.

I have sank so much money into gear that it's overtaken more important financial focuses, and as a result my life is going nowhere. It's a literal addiction for me that's costing my livelyhood. I'm selling all of my gear tommorow and beginning to move on with my life, maybe I'll return someday when my life isn't so completely fucked. I had a pleasure posting with you.

your fault

You can still post and play guitar without buying new gear.
Selling all your stuff means you bought it all for nothing, and you'll probably make losses as well, then buy new gear when the itch kicks in and get into even more trouble.
Learn to handle money responsibly. Stop buying gear, keep playing.

Wait, I just realized that the strat's volume pot is really close to the bridge. I absolutely HATE that placement on my DXMG. REEEEEEEE

It's a lot worse than you think bro. I'm in debt. The only way to fix my retardation is to teach myself a good, hard lesson.

Yup, because cold turkey has worked for every single addict in the history of mankind.

How would you go about making a solo for a song that does not have a solo?
I want to cover stand by your man, just because someone asked me to play it at a gig, I play solo on stage.

I know I could just follow the chords and apply scales and such hitting the core notes and stuff, but how do you go about it?

I know where I want to put the solo, as the song is just verse chorus chorus chorus, so I'm thinking of putting a solo between the last two choruses

A C#
Stand by your man
D C#m Bm
And tell the world you love him
A E7 C#7 F#
Keep giving all the love you can
D E A D A E7
Stand by your man

Better than any Strat

only listen to pet sounds and Smile,

saw them in 2012 on acid and they were amazing with that backup band Wilson got when doing the first Smile around 2004, Brian Wilson looked broken though. Still surprises me he is still alive.

the song is in A

just play in A

on my steelstring depending on how long I haven't played it ( i always play 0.13 strings) I put it down a step for fingerpicking and easier frets.

when I am used to the train rails I put it back up.

as you can imagine typing this on a keyboard I hear the sound of my finger touching the keys louder than the actuation of the key.

How do I start a band when none of my friends play and the only music people listen to in my area is grime rap
