What's the best pedal for David Gilmour style leads? I already have a big muff but I want something smaller+ standard plug. Are Skreddy Pedals worth it or should I just save a shitload of money and get the little big muff.

Gibson being more expensive is the biggest meme ever, you literally only need to buy the guitar.

Also, how to make an ibanez sound good

There's a reason why companies like Line 6 have been churning out the same shitty practice combo modeling amps for over two decades now

So, what picks do you guys use? Been a long time tortex user, but tried those jazz III picks recently, kinda liked them but they are very small. Anyone use stuff like chicken picks, dragon heart picks etc.?

They seem to care more when some is making better guitars with their designs.

>>

All you really need is a big muff and a tube overdrive of some sort to get that Gilmour sound.

The site "Gilmourish" has a thorough breakdown of his gear, that should help you.
>>
>>71174346
just bought daddario black ice picks.
a little bigger than jazz iii's
made of duralin. pretty sweet
>>
>>71174346
>Been a long time tortex user, but tried those jazz III picks recently, kinda liked them but they are very small
That was me a couple years ago. So I started using XL Tortex Jazz IIIs, which were the perfect combination. And eventually I started using the regular small Tortex Jazz IIIs, specifically the black 1.14 mm ones. The small size feels right once you get used to it after a couple days. You really don't need much material to grip if you're gripping properly in the first place

>>71174393
Gator Grips have a gross edge to them. A weird bevel that wears pretty similarly to regular nylon
>>
>>71174421
don't forget a compressor
>>
>>71174346
Dunlop or Grover-Allman Jazz XL's
>>
>>71174433
Hmm can't say I've heard of those, will definitely give them a go, they sound really interesting.
>>71174439
Yeah that's a good point, the smaller ones might actually promote better mechanical grip once you adjust to them.
>>
>>71173767
A really hot single coil in the bridge and a fuzz that doesn't sound like shit. Bend until the strings nearly break and really dig in with the pick.
>>
>>71174346
Jazz XL is great, I prefer ultex to tortex though. Ultex sharp is love. Also been using a lot of Ibanez Wizard Grips when practicing hybrid picking since they're small and have a sand grip.
>>
>>71174565
Another good suggestion, cheers guys. Think I'm just gonna havta go and buy a bunch of different picks and have a real go with them all
>>
>>71174617
To me, there's no perfect pick. I use a lot of different ones depending on what I'm playing.

/beg/inner back again,
so last time I was considering either getting a pacifica or affinity tele, but after some consideration time I got to the conclusion that paying a little bit more would be fine for me. So now I have to make a decision between an epiphone sg pro, the pacifica or a vintage modified jaguar/jazzmaster/tele custom II (could get either one of the three for around 320€). It's probably quite uncomfortable to get the jaguar/jazzmaster to a different tuning than e standard.

I just want a relatively versatile and somewhat decent looking guitar. Is the SG even capable of getting some nice twinkly math rocky cleans? I know it has coil split, but none of the demo videos online show anything other than AC/DC riffs and poorly EQed shred. The music store I mentioned doesn't have any Epiphone at all, only the other 4 guitars that are in my price range of around 300€.

pls give advice. I guess I'll visit the store soon and try all of the guitars I mentioned on an amp, only fiddled around with the pacifica for some minutes so far.
>>
>>71174639
I have a habit of doing that also, I'm hoping that I can find the one pick that works for me in every situation but I do suspect that having a few different one for different uses might end up being the best
>>
>>71174907
>I just want a relatively versatile and somewhat decent looking guitar

Epi Dot
>>
>>71174382
It's not about that, they can choose any design in the world as long as they're not copying one that already exists, the one they chose just looks bad compared to other manufacturers.
>>
>>71174907
Buy the pacifica. It's probably the best value for money in that bracket.

sorry friendo, I'm just always really unsure about financial decisions like these. But I guess your right, I'll head to the music store around friday I guess and get it. After all it played really nice. Only need some time to adjust to the thin body. ;_;
>>
If i plan on just general playing without sticking to any particular genre should i go for a HSS strat or the regular one?
>>
>>71175167
The feel of a hollow body takes some getting used to, but they're most definitely electric with some pretty high potential for heavier sound. Tons of rock bands have used them or variations of them.
>>
>>71175226
Steve Howe of Yes has traditionally used a Gibson ES-175. He could go heavy just fine.
>>
>>71175016
Oh man, I've been using the JP picks for a few weeks now I love them. I was using Tortex med before but now I can't stop using these. Perfect size, shape, and thickness. I only wish the texture was a bit rougher.
>>
>>71175251
Yeah, and of course you have the versatility of playing clean tones that sound far better than a solid imo.

They're good guitars that aren't mentioned here much for some reason.

I could happily push hollow body electrics through a woodchipper all day every day

There's literally no reason to buy Gibson guitars in the year 2017 since any manufacturer that makes Gibson copies make better guitars that cost less than Gibson, and if it's the "Gibson toan" you want then buy literally any HH guitar and replace the pickups in them. That's the shittiest part, theyre not even nos.

You seriously can't knock that hustle. They probably pay someone to glue the cover on more than they pay for the part. Easily over $100 in profit a set

I really think it's a marketing thing to make the more expensive gibsons seem more reasonable, i mean you get the $100 caps for free basically.
>>

I saw a comprehensive blind test of tone capacitors once, some guys tested everything from Bumblebee caps down to tantalum beads, ceramic disks, poly caps, metal film caps. They concluded that the best sound came from a 2c ceramic.

Im looking for a HSS. I may go with a charvel.

Anyway, after years of never having any pedals, Im considering purchasing a few. Looking at bit crushers and octave/synth stuff. So far have the bit commander by earthquaker devices on the top of my list. Any other good pedals to get an old school nes sound? Have seen the 8 bit duck demo and arcadiator as well.

Lastly, us the boss rc-3 loop station any good? I can get a used one for under $100, probably trade some games in to get it. Id be more interested in using it to hold backing tracks and run it into a bass amp + spare guitar amp.

It's just abbreviations of the model ST-STD is Strat-Standard, ST-62-TX is Strat-62 Reissue-Texas Special, I know Mustangs are variations of MG-65-66-69-73 and it's just Mustang-1965 Reissue and so on. Quality wise the Japs pay CLOSE attention to detail when making guitars and that's why they make most of the "special edition" models and offsets. Here's a good comparison

Yeah, they are nice. I had one for a while, it played very well. The humbuckers are pretty nice sounding, way better than the older ones they used to have in the budget gretsches. They don't sound like typical Gretsch Dynasonics or Filtertrons but they sound nice. More of a Gibson sound.

I've had a bunch of Gretsches, 2 MIJ ones, 3 MIK, 2 MIC

The best bang for the buck was the MIK 5120 I had like 7 years ago, it had the mudbuckers which sucked massive ass but I put some TV Jones in it, I would compare it favorably to that Black/gold 6120 I have now.

It is with a Bigsby, you've got to bend the strings round so the ball ends catch on the trem roller then trap it on the neck with a capo, wrap the tuner and put some winds on it. I'd rather just push the string through the body, wrap it on the tuner and tune it up, I can do that without tools.

And fuck trems anyway. They're all shit. But Bigsby are the worst.

nobody in their right mind would sell you a MIM fender strat for only 300 euros in my country, especially with a great pickup thrown in there. New MIM go for like 700-800 here, and you see used strats for like 500 at least, no less than that. If I could get the price down to like 370, I think that'd be pretty decent.
>>

there is just one online resource where you eventually could consider giving money to. but its $100 a month, and I won't even bother mentioning it here. Hello /gg/ I want to be able to actively improvise dreamy chords used in stuff like chillwave and shoegaze. How do I go about doing this?
>>
>>71179432
Just go buy several pedals
>>
>>71179184
Get an electromatic or some sort of solid body gretsch otherwise you'll just be locked into playing limited genres
>>
>>71175321
>and shitloads of people who bought guitars because their anime waifu uses the exact same model.

I haven't seen anyone on /gg/ post their ESP Random Star, pre-08 Gibson Les Paul, Fender Japan '69 Reissue Mustang, or Fender Jazz Bass, as if the average NEET on /gg/ can actually afford to buy one lmao
>>
Can someone tell me what effects are used in the solo of this Judas Priest song? It sounds like some sort of treble/fuzz combo? I'm bad at effects.
https://youtu.be/IPOfCrRsTw4?t=142
It starts at 2:24 if the link doesn't work. Underrated song by them, by the way.

hollow bodies are the most versatile guitars out there unless you play heavy metal

They buy Squier and Epiphone versions.
>>
>>71179079
That's exactly what I'm wondering, it's a great piece of work for what I've paid for it. There's just others ITT who seem to think otherwise.
>>
>>71179541
>as if the average NEET on /gg/ can actually afford to buy one lmao

but this is already common knowledge. why do you think everyone here loves squier so much? most posters here are very young.
>>
>>71179432
Use the links in the OP to find scale shapes as well as chords, just experiment and see what works well together. Also, i would recommend some digital effect pedals, especially reverb and chorus.

You need a different guitar for every genre you're going to play.
>>
>>71179432
Buy a couple dozen random pedals and turn them all on at once
>>
>>71179548
Hollow bodies seem to be geared towards being balls deep in hill billy or some sort of jazz/blues variant, if you decide to try and go rock or some shit with a lot a gain, its gonna sound a bit weird

sounds like some shitty 80s/90s digitech or DOD pedal

googling glenn tipton gear said he uses a digtech tone driver so maybe its that into a JCM or some 80s butt marshall like those geeky rack setups those dorkwads used to use like a marshall 9100 and some gay rack preamps

Would buying a fully stock 1960s Fender with a stripped/natural finish on it be worth it if I refinish it to my color of choice in nitro? Or would it be easier/better to get one with a factory finish?

you wont be able to do that if the amp is louder than 1 on the dial

hollowbodies feedback like crazy with any sort of high volume, its especially bad with high gain

well semi hollow definitely is the better all rounder metal is just a meme genre anyway

In other words
Solid - Rockin and rollin, dabble in some blues, metal heads
Semi - Get dem deep blues and jazz sounds, no metal 4 u, still rock if you want
Hollow - Billy, blues, and jazz only

do you see that hat?
>>

I mean idk how it would compare price wise the new one would probably be cheaper cause hurr vintage plus refinishing it would kill the resale value of the vintage one I'd imagine.

flamenco guitars are 7/8 size and generally use custom guage strings

not classical

also, decent classical guitars are some of the finest guitars available

educate yourself
>>
>>71180832
Classical guitar and Jazz guitar are richfag genres, that's how they get away with charging so much.

I don't understand the pricing though

Even with the finest wood, layerings, high quality pins and pegs plus the man hours, 30 grand?

You dont need that shit on board. And even if you wanted it, you can put it up front near the pots with selectors so you can actually use it without unscrewing a plate on the back
