The mourning period for Pi continues.

The point of these threads is to encourage people to look for new and interesting music. We do this by listening to and ideally discussing albums we've never heard before. Many of us already listen to new music daily, these people are in it to venture "out of their comfort zone" by listening to albums they otherwise wouldn't have, or just to have a good time.

i can't write more than 2 sentences without losing all brain function so here ya go

Satwa - Satwa (1973)
>psychedelic folk

The only other major project of Paêbirú's Lula Côrtes, and it stands tall with that absolutely monolithic album. It's exclusively sitar and guitar, so a lot of the songs blend into each other and make for a pretty repetitive album, but the rawness of it more than makes up for that, and it's just so fucking cool to listen to.

3.0+

The Space Lady - The Space Lady's Greatest Hits (2013)
>synthpop, psychedelic pop

Cool concept and I love the synths and drum machines, but the Space Lady's voice can occasionally get grating and a lot of the covers aren't that great. "Synthesize Me" is phenomenal, though.

2.5+

Horacee Arnold - Tales of the Exonerated Flea (1974)
>jazz fusion

Damn cool fusion dragged down by some long bits where nothing really happens. The drumming is spectacular, as are the keys, and the title track is one hell of a tune, but some of the longer tracks bring the album down. Mostly pretty great though.

3.0-

Wtf, this is not what I was expecting, especially with the noise rock tag on RYM. Also, I can't decide if the shitty recording quality enhances this performance or ruins something that could've been weirdly mellow. Thoughts?

>>71085608

>You should check out the Arthur Russell next.
I got right to it.

Arthur Russell - World of Echo
>Art pop, ambient pop
Strangely ethereal, otherworldly music. Russell's voice is delicate, almost like Nick Drake's, and while it may seem like his voice would mesh badly with his experimental sound, it compliments it nicely. The only complaints I have are that the production is very spotty, and the lack of any transition/closure on EVERY song. Seriously, they all just end suddenly. All of them. But other than that it is absolutely beautiful and also sobering in a way.

top tier scrubs rock, the album title describes the mood really well, but i did find them because of Todd in the Shadow's one hit wonder series and it shows, because it all falls short of the first song, or first two-three songs at least. the third single is actually the worst track and kinda takes me out of it, that or well, semisad midtempo pop rock isn't that great for a whole album of the same shit

final round of bad tourney
Lamb VS Kanzler

Fizheuer Zieheuer was a single rather boring minimal-techno track but I still enjoyed it, albeit to a slight degree simply because the loop and samples were nice. All it really does throughout is slightly change the drums, panning, volume and other minor effects one at a time through out, it's always the same pattern,
5-

Strange Warmings of Laddio Bolocko was just awesome groovy noise rock/math-rock. I thought I would have DQ'd Kanzler for a minute there because there was 4 mins of silence in the song; I thought there as a hidden track but luckily the song continued, you were very close there. Though the 2nd half of Nuser can fuck off.
8-

KANZLER WINS TOURNEY

This was my favourite tourney to do, heaps of stuff I like and discovered and two 9/10's. Might do another mini tourney next but who knows, maybe I should actually finish that post-feelist drone. (probably not)

In lots of experimental, noisy rock it seems like one of the most common techniques is having some instrument play repetitively and provide some continuous backbone to the piece, while everything around it falls down into chaos.

bvsc review (9/10)

I think what I like most of all on this album is that the recording, done without any unnecessary effects or overdubs, allows it to authentically hold the sound you might hear from a band of friends performing out in the street while you're in the porch of a café on holiday. That is to say, the music is sunny, passionate, and carefree – all while maintaining a high level of skill amongst the musicians, which would probably be expected with the presence of Ry Cooder. You can see this great musicianship especially in the title track with Rubén González's piano playing which, to me, adds colour to the album through a more subtle style of jazz playing. What the track misses is what I see as the greatest aspect of the whole album: the vocals of Ibrahim Ferrer, who I had actually first heard on the Gorillaz track Latin Simone. What makes Buena Vista Social Club so much better than that track, however, is that Ferrer has an ensemble behind him that perform far better in the Afro-Cuban style and, therefore, compliment his voice more. I would pick out a track that shows off the vocals the most, but really his singing is fantastic throughout. I suppose I would therefore pick Chan Chan which is my choice, and the popular choice, for the album's best piece.
Perhaps Ry Cooder brings a little too much American influence to the record, and perhaps knowledgeable fans of Cuban music could name a better introduction to the genre, but I still enjoy this album a lot.

Re: Byrds. They're all worthwhile up through Sweetheart, even (Untitled). Some of the solo albums shouldn't be missed either. I think it's one case where the official Greatest Hits album (1967) isn't a bad listen and you wouldn't miss too much from the pre-Sweetheart period. Like a lot of people will say though, Notorious Byrd Brothers just operates on another level.

I like this chart, How I Loved You, Time Out, VCN, Halber Mensch, Scott, Out to Lunch, Point of Departure, Hot Buttered Soul and HANL are all records I enjoy a lot (amongst others I just clocked I was on the way to naming half the chart)

If you like that Time Machines record I'd rec Constant Shallowness Leads to Evil, if you like the Sybille Baier I'd rec Virginia Astley, Dorothy Carter and Linda Perhacs

>>71085295
I really loved Satwa, it's not on the same scale as Paebiru but it's a cool record nonetheless. That Big Youth record has some cool tracks on too but most deejay records aren't varied enough to engage me the whole time through. If you like it the Dr Alimantado Poison Flour/I Shall Fear No Evil single is the best release of that sort of thing, both of them are on the same album but I love just the two similar tracks together. I'd also rec Akwaaba by Francis Bebey, it has some overlap with that compilation but a generally slightly creepy vibe I don't often find in African music which I really enjoy.

I can't really write a review on this, there's not much I can think to say. It's inoffensive mid-60s pop with great vocal harmonies that, admittedly, sticks pretty rigidly to a formula. Rubber Soul was released the same year so its pretty significantly outshone. It sounds nice, but I doubt I'll ever remember it fondly and come back to it.

Redman - Dare Iz a Darkside
>East Coast Hip-Hop

I really fucking love what I’ve heard from Redman so far - in fact, Muddy Waters is likely one of my favorites from the genre. Sure, it’s crammed with skits but the beats are so damn funky and Redman is just hilarious imo. He kind of sounds like a weird mesh between Method Man, Busta Rhymes and Buckshot, with that raspy but low-key reggae-ish flow. I’m kind of a sucker for that style and his punchline-based rap is just so entertaining because he’s surprisingly charismatic.

As the transition album between Whut and Muddy Waters, there’s some noticeable differences here. First of all, he brings in EPMD’s Erick Sermon in on production, which adds a way different funk influence. The beats are still very boom-bap based, unlike the straight P-Funk beats of Muddy Waters and Whut but they work quite well. This album has a much more murky sound all around, which I prefer.

On here, you can already hear the Funkadelic influence. In addition to the clear “Maggot Brain” homage on the cover, he uses a lot of George Clinton staples. Pitch shifted vocals and just weird spacey vocals/synths on songs like the bizarre “Cosmic Slop”. Shit like that. Probably the closest I’ve heard to Aquemini in a weird way, even though it has a much more darker vibe. I mean, listen to the way Sermon flips “Nuthin’ But a G Thing” - it’s way gloomier in this version.

Lyrically, this is solid. I mean, Redman has an immature, corny sense of humor but it works with his style of music. You aren’t supposed to take him seriously but he does drop a really awkward line occasionally. Still, I found myself chuckling a lot, rewinding to catch all the stupid lines he spits all throughout this.

Muddy Waters basically takes all these ideas and elevates them to a new level. That being said, it’s still quite enjoyable.

Yeah I was expecting something a lot more freewheeling and less repetitive when I first heard it. It really grows on you though, even though Night of the Assassin is the catchiest.

Enter the Mirror and Night of the Assassin are an amazing intro to the album. No elaboration needed there. Admittedly Flame of Ice and Distant Memory are a little lackluster, comparatively, but Deeper Than the Night is definitely in the running for my favorite track. I absolutely love how the guitar and bass just *bloom* on the chorus. It's like the aural equivalent of watching a mushroom cloud billow up—cheesy maybe, but apt. Reaper of the Night is amazingly propulsive—highest bpm by a mile—and the closest to the classic Sister Ray-type noise rock of the bunch. I enjoy the pick-up right before the end. And I really should've have to sell The Last One. That track is an absolute monolith. I'd say it's honestly one of my all-time favorite noise rock tracks, but most every other track on the album is too.

And yeah, I think the recording quality really makes it. Listening to cleaned up versions (and there are plenty, actually) isn't nearly as satisfying.

Hope that sells it to you or anyone else who might be reading.

Idk, I kind of imagined an unskilled, amateurish, and maybe unhinged garage rock band when I first heard it described

Didn't think it'd be so monstrous and well-practiced-seeming
>>
>>71092633
it's definitely not the worst thing ever made

that doesn't mean it don't come damn close
>>
>>71092601
Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I definitely thought it'd be way more "out there" rather than repetitive. That being said, I really dug it - way more than I was expecting.

Nice writeup btw, agree with most of it. I'll have to listen to some of the cleaned up versions and see what I think.

>Nintendocore is a subgenre of Melodic Metalcore fused with Chiptune instrumentation, often sampling Video Game Music from Nintendo games, and often incorporates elements from Post-Hardcore, Mathcore, Noise Rock, Metalcore, Cybergrind, and Synthpop.

Is there even a point of creating a tag for a genre this niche?

It's funny to think that most people, perhaps even most "music fans", would think that Melodic Metalcore alone is far too niche of a genre to have a name.

Probably is. Hardcore wasn't that a-melodic, and it was probably invented to make Husker Du seem extra special

Genres are really a question of practicality. If there's demand for them, they'll be invented to describe some music. But usually that demand is just some guy's need to pose harder than the next guy

I'm really not in the mood for writing, so I'm just posting my listening notes for this album and slapping on the score.

I Set My Friends on Fire - You Can’t Spell Slaughter Without Laughter
>Hardcore, Crunk, Pop Punk

⁃ I regret everything not 30 seconds in. That intro is absolutely repulsive, with the slobbering alien creature
⁃ Odd moments of detail in the music
⁃ like the ambient electronic noises during the delicate piano break in “Beauty is in the Eyes of the Beerholder”
⁃ Or the backing vocals during some of the shredding
⁃ “there’s so much oxygen that I forgot to breathe” wth
⁃ “Things That Rhyme With Orange” are nearly unbearable
⁃ Sounds like a bad mix of All American Rejects, Enter Shikari, and Aphex Twin
⁃ Even if I was a sucker for the whiny pop-punk choruses (however slightly auto-tuned they seem) I simply cannot handle the piss metal core vocals
⁃ And I do have a bit of a soft spot for the choruses. “Beauty is in the Eyes of the Beerholder” and “Things That Rhyme With Orange” have some great nostalgic melodies
⁃ Nothing original, but nostalgic maybe (Panic! At the Disco, Blink-182, AAR, etc.)

>cont.
>>
⁃ Did he just say “I want to be in your asshole” at 1:20 in “Ravenous, Ravenous Rhinos”?
⁃ The break on that song is uncannily like that one part of Sufjan’s “Impossible Soul” and that is NOT ok. Sufjan you have some explaining to do
⁃ Holy shit the hip hop beat and rapping on “HXC 2-Step”
⁃ What the fuck
⁃ “I am so thirsty/drinking the moisture from the air”
⁃ Backed with hand claps and somber piano, repeating that line, it’s like the perfectly worst mix of absolute trashiness and attempted balladry
⁃ I actually had to stop the music to finish typing that last line because the next song literally made me lose my train of thought mid sentence
⁃ It was just so arrestingly terrible
⁃ “Crank That” is really just a screamo vocal cover of the same Soulja Boy Tell Em song. Like, same backing track. Like, it’s actually funny, but also actually terrible. I wouldn’t put this kind of thing past Filthy Frank tbf.
⁃ If I hear that “youuuuuu” one more time I might puke
⁃ “Having the kind of sex that sacrificial virgins fantasize about” wth
⁃ The last song is just terrible and lame. Group chanting does not make a chorus better

To be perfectly honest I don’t even know what Crunk is, but this is awful. It’s hot garbage. Those Faust and Death Grips comparisons are absolutely facetious at best. Feeling a light 2 on this one. Wtf trans.

>>71093646

perks of Ithaca, we have a pretty good promoter for the area: Dan Smalls

Thanks to him, we'll have at least Milo, Head and the Heart, The Districts, The Decembrists, George Winston, Barenaked Ladies, Meat Puppets, and Future Islands this semester. I could've sworn Brian Wilson was coming at one point, but the event disappeared before tickets could go on sale so I guess that fell through. (He'll be fine...) More get booked all the time. Not that I'd go to most of those, but it's nice to have the options. A bunch of those are totally fun date-concert-worthy too.

Lots of local bands are great too. A bunch of kids return to town to do shows, even after they've graduated.

The university concert commission is also trying to bring Gucci Mane, so we'll see how that goes. Travis Scott fell through though. The school across the way somehow got DRAM before we could, so I might go to that (though I have to choose between that and a bunch of local experimental psych bands playing downtown, so I'll probably go with the latter).

>>71094857
Oh yeah still considering IC?
>>
>>71094728
i've been relistening and I might have completely changed my mind on it, I'm not sure gimme more time
>>
>>71095305
I'm probably 100% going unless SU or Buff State offer more money.
>>
>>71093712
But seriously a good promoter for your area can make a world of difference if there's a market for those kinds of bands

Like, a lot of artists will go right on to Burlington, VT—a much bigger tour stop—after stopping in Ithaca. Your college town could definitely pull the same deal with Portland. For example, Mac DeMarco has a big chunk of blank calendar space in his tour schedule before he heads to Burlington in May—a lot of artists will leave large blank spots like that—so I bet Dan Smalls is trying to get Ithaca on that schedule. (I really hope Dan Smalls is trying to get Ithaca on that schedule.)

it just sucks because that didnt give me any new ideas for writing a review myself
maybe it further showed that: retroactive conclusions of a "wtf" reaction, whether that's "good" or "bad", entirely depend on peer reception
like think musical abortions or the room but the difference here is that nabil, while not exactly a virtuoso in any way, clearly knew what he was doing so it's in a kind of "grey area"? but that intrigues me more than straight up sucking yfm? it's like monogatari
>“Having the kind of sex that sacrificial virgins fantasize about” wth
this is a really evocative lyric
>The last song is just terrible and lame. Group chanting does not make a chorus better

https://rbt.asia/mu/thread/S39845687
precisely this thread. having a story and a face behind an album always puts it in perspective. idk seeing how most of those songs climax before they're half over and usually become more and more sour in the second half and that IT JUST WONT LAAAAST chant, it's like poetry, it rhymes

>Jim O'Rourke - Happy Days
Really cool drone with a palindrome like structure. Slow build with acoustic two note strum, constant crescendo and intensifying of bagpipe/sour violin-like drone, then finish with a reprise of the acoustic segment.
If you like drone, listen to this. It's odd how hypnotizing a grating drone texture can be if done correctly. I was constantly thinking "this should be annoying me, but it isn't... why?"
I just wish it went more places, it's quite subtle and doesn't leave a huge impression, but it's solid nonetheless.

Scott Walker - The Drift
>Singer/Songwriter, Industrial, Post Rock, Dark Ambient

The album opens expectedly but perfectly, with Walker’s deep melodramatic baritone over a hard, propulsive beat and flickering, sinister bass line. Seriously that beat is amazing. The song, like many on Walker’s last serious album, Tilt, are really hard to qualify. It’s like they all stand at the crossroads of singer/songwriter, industrial, and post punk.

“Clara” is a lengthy, winding epic. Opening with lambent chirping and talking, Walker’s baritone soon comes swooping in, eventually dropping into an overwhelming, suffocating string drone. That explosion of sound will drop your heart right into your stomach. Think the string equivalent of Ligeti’s “Requiem”. And even after that section of the song passes, the strings, bass, and nearly arhythmic drumming keep up the absolutely terrifying atmosphere. It’s a real gamut of unnerving, terrorizing, and creeping. Rarely is a song so genuinely frightening.

And I’ve talked about this before, but I really can not stand melodramatic over-exaggerations. I hate feeling like I’m being theatrically performed to. Really the Nick Cave life is not for me. And by most metrics, I think Paul Walker fits the same bill: he’s melodramatic, operatic, you know—theatrical. But his execution is just so haunting. Even if he’s theatrically bemoaning, the sound really strikes you. It’s not about making sense of the lyrics—he’s stringing words together with the sole intent of adding to his atmosphere. It’s simply next level. He’s crafting Eldritch horrors of music here. Many of the songs here just instill an impressively deep feeling of adrenalin-hiking dread.

Michael Gira wishes his latter day post rock was anywhere near as impressive, honestly. I bring Gira up here because in my opinion, latter-day Swans is probably the closest sonic analogue. Although Swans hits much harder, and is so much more visceral when it wants to be, I can’t help but feel—after listening to The Drift—that the lengthy post rock sections of The Seer or To Be Kind are somewhat shoddily imitating Walker. See, while some parts of those Swans albums are undeniably tiresome, compared to the noise rock highs, the post rock lulls seem just like that—lulls. Between Walker’s explosive highs exists whirling maelstroms of tension. It’s hardly comparable.

And like Swans and many other post rock acts, Walker wields dynamics with deadly precision. The way he can just switch the volume and accompaniment on and off—or between orchestration and industrial havoc—or from dark ambient to rock explosion, is all possible definitions of impressive. The attention to detail with every switch are never more clear than on “Jolson and Jones”. Every few dozen seconds sees in a new passage of extraordinary sonic detail and immaculately crafted atmosphere. And the massive dynamic shifts, maybe cheap for shock factor, are extremely effective. Even on a second listen, they just seem to hit harder. It actually adds even more tension, as you brace for aural impact.

And occasionally the album just becomes, straight up, a horror soundtrack—the heart-pounding sound of someone banging on a door in “Cue” comes to mind, or the silence thereafter. And fuck, speaking of which: when the music drops out, that’s when you really start sweating—the wailing “I’m the only one left alive” at the end of Jesse is haunting, but I just about pissed myself when the drop hits both times on “Cue”. Scott Walker, that son of a bitch, even drops the bomb early the second time—immediately after the horror movie door knocking. He put a good minute of solo vocal performance between before.

And another point I should make about this album that I’ve implied before when describing the atmosphere: these songs are incredibly detailed. The songs are incredibly high quality. And not just The Drift—the last album, Tilt, made in ’95, sound amazing. I usually don’t want for incredibly high quality headphones or audio equipment, but this album makes me wonder if I’m missing anything by listening on cheap headphones from a macbook. In fact, I think Walker is really proud of his recording quality, no matter the input. Whatever it may be: weird string instruments that crop up on “Hand Me Ups”, the sound collage, musique concrète, and highly textured synthesizers on “Buzzers”, or what can only be field recordings of the Leviathan that open and close “Psoriatic”, whatever. Scott Walker makes it sound meticulously calculated. The same level of attention to texture and timbre is seldom seen anywhere else. It’s nearly musical ASMR, only thousand times more tasteful and actually satisfying.

Then, it’s kind of unfortunate after such an exhilarating experience, when the last two tracks are comparative let-downs. “The Escape” employs the usual mix of sounds, but Walker randomly tosses in—get this, no joke—what can only be described as a Donald Duck impression. Really tosses immersion right out the window. “A Lover Escapes”, beyond being the shortest track in the list at 3 minutes, 14 seconds, is perhaps too simple. It’s just an uber repetitive guitar melody with very ambient sounds and Walker’s voice. And with his voice he will often interrupt the flow of his own singing to make these loud, annoying “Psst psst” sounds. Both employ some really obnoxious vocal gimmicks, and it’s a really disheartening end to the album. He could have just closed the whole thing out with “Psoriatic” and it would’ve been infinitely better.

So, wow. Rarely am I ever so blown away by an album. Sorry not sorry I used words like “terrifying” so much. This album is really an incredible experience, even if it gets derails a bit towards the end. The only uniform criticisms that I could possible levy against this album is that I can’t shake the feeling that the extreme dynamic changes are a bit cheap—It’s the aural equivalent of a jump scare at times, and the sound can be a bit overwrought at times (the Donald Duck vocals toward the end of “The Escape” immediately spring to mind again). But I guess it works well enough—I’m exhausted. I think two listens of this thing are more than enough for a while.

I really like A Lover Loves as a closer, its simplicity and emptiness become very eerie due to how it is juxtaposed with the wild ride that is the rest of the album. Works kinda like efficient horror: nothing much may happen, but you constantly feel like something is about to happen and that's what really fucks you up.

>Bowery Electric - Beat
The first thing that really struck me about this album is how gorgeous the guitar tone is. I'm mostly referring to the ever present guitar drone that's underneath almost all the songs. It's so hauntingly beautiful and never really has a definite start or end, simply flowing in and out as everything else is built on top of it. The trip-hop parts of the album are repetitive in such a way that they really bring you into a trance where the guitar parts are free wash over the listener. At some points i think the beats are a bit too loud and in your face, and that it overpowers the quieter and more subtle walls of sound. It's an interesting mashup of two distinct genres that works impressively well. I also really enjoyed the vocal performances, especially towards the latter half with both a male and female singer, and they provided a nice texture that added on to the instrumental parts. The final song Postscript really impressed me with it's ability to keep my attention over it's 16 minute length. The hypnotic panning of the guitar from the right to left ear combined with super subtle added instrumentation that would take minutes growing from almost inaudible to being a main part of the mix before slowly falling back away was really quite beautiful.

someone hit me up with a hex code for my new freeform chart

The Byrds - The Notorious Byrd Brothers (1968)
>folk rock, pop rock, psychedelic rock

Without a doubt their most accomplished work. It's kinda funny that something recorded by a band so fully in turmoil (the band only retains McGuinn and Hillman from Mr. Tambourine Man as legitimate members) can sound this cohesive and great. The country influence is very minor compared to what they'd do next (and compared to what I expected), and the tracks that utilize this influence tend to be the weakest tracks, relying on a lot of stale country tropes. Luckily, it's also by far the group's most psychedelic, echoing vocals are prominent on every track, there's some really cool electronic noodling, and some tracks are very uncharacteristically heavy, which is really cool. It's not perfect, but it's damn good.

3.0+

DJ Nigga Fox - Noite e dia (2015)
>kuduro, afro-house

Too dissonant and out-there to function well as dance music and too standard to take on new life as an experimental piece. This could most certainly be a good EP if it embraced the cultural sounds of kuduro more without taking far too much influence from four-to-the-floor western dance music. There are some pretty cool rhythms, but a lot of this feels like a missed opportunity from any perspective you can look at it.

2.0

Scott Walker - Scott 3 (1969)
>baroque pop, art pop, singer/songwriter

It's a pretty intriguing album when the more straightforward tracks end up seeming dissonant. Walker falls back on a lot of his old baroque pop tricks on a couple tracks here, and while these tracks are pretty decent, they're jarringly upbeat and much less interesting than the moody, dark, atmospheric tracks. The arrangements are killer, simultaneously bombastic and ominous without these two moods ever clashing, and Walker's voice is of course fantastic. I've only heard his first three, and this is my favorite.

水曜日のカンパネラ - Superman (2017)
>electropop, japanese hip hop, hip house

The production on a few of these tracks is wonderful. They take both hip hop and house to their extremes, incorporating some dissonance and some more abrasive rhythms and melodies, but others seem more content to stay in a somewhat typical confort zone. They're never bad, but the more generic tracks are definitely not as interesting, and the vocals aren't that great. Some tracks really do hit hard though, and for that I'd say I like this as a whole.

2.5+

Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 - Herb Alpert Presents Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 (1966)
>bossa nova, jazz pop, lounge

Yeah, it's lounge music. Cheesy as sin and totally emotionless, this is elevator music and really not much more. Worth a listen because it's admittedly pleasant, Alpert's production is immaculate, and the opener "Mais que nada (Ma-sh kay nada)" is a really fucking great track, but it's a bit of a commercial bastardization of bossa nova and MPB.

Francis Bebey - African Electronic Music 1975-1982 (2011)
>bikutsi, african music

Cool, cute stuff. It's all a bunch of very simple, very primitive, very rhythmic pop with a lot of traditional African influence through the rhythms and the heavily percussive nature of a lot of these tracks. There's a lot of spoken word that I don't care for, and some of the longer tracks burn out by their halfway points, but it's a real nice compilation overall.

李剑鸿 - 三生石 (San Sheng Shi) (2008)
>noise, free improvisation

Slows down a lot and loses a bit of my interest in it's softer, sparser moments, but FUCK, the noisier moments on this are truly apocalyptic. It starts off incredibly strong, Jianhong's guitar takes on the power of a full band, and when an /actual/ full band comes in it's really awesome. Definitely drags on a bit towards the end, but an entrancing, hypnotic listen through and through.

Derek Bailey - Ballads (2002)
>free improvisation

I've never been too huge on Bailey's style of improvisation, but I like this alright. I think he works a lot better with a prepared guitar than a plain ol' acoustic, because his prepared works seem a lot more deliberate, it's very easy for a lot of tracks on here to just devolve into mindless wank. This wank does compliment the more melodic moments very well, and the melodic moments are purely beautiful, but it gets tiring fast.

The Byrds - Sweetheart of the Rodeo (1968)
>country rock

Shockingly good album. 100% their most country-fried, with Gram Parsons at the helm for a large amount of the record, The Byrds sheds the jangley folk rock of their early work and just embraces an early form of country rock. Some generic country tropes are left, yes, but it's a mostly enjoyable album.

nah but for real, i saw him play for people who wouldn't exactly all be there for dance music but everyone seemed p wild, i mean both the rhythm and melody are kinda broken but the same can be said about a lot of dnb drops and those seem too "regular" or "normie" for a lot of people if you know what I mean

It has a couple songs that catch my attention, like most momus albums. I don't really like the backings on it, but it's solid
