First for Squiers are actually great guitars for the money, don't let memers tell you otherwise.
>>
>>71056855
I play metal though so they are shit
>>
>>71056855
Yeah, just change all the hardware and they're somewhat decent.
>>
>>71056855
I have a pretty GOAT Squier Stagememester with a Floyd Rose and neckthru construction. Struck me as a bit of a rarity.
>>
>>71056887
Granted, I got it from a guy who did all the switching and now it's a fantastic guitar. But I played on stock Squiers, and especially the VM and Classic Vibe series are phenomenal for the price. Just go and try them at your local shop, you will not be disappointed. Of course, I share the opinion that Bullets and Affinities should remain in the hands of beginners.. they could be good guitars for modding/experimenting, though.

Yeah, they're decent. They're not great though. Compared to the cheap guitars I had to live through in the late 80s/early 90s, they're awesome.

Still not great guitars.

That's not good. I've seen many, in my opinion, great musicians play Squiers on stage. I've likewise seen shit players play Gibson Les Pauls on stage. It's all in the hands of the player.

What's the worst pedal you ever bought, /gg/?

Mine is pic related. Amazing pedal on paper. Amazing price for the value. Shit build quality. Switches feel like they're going to break instantly. Whole thing has a lot of weight yet still feels fragile. There are tons of people having problems online as well, it seems. Nothing was wrong with mine but it felt like russian roullette keeping it on my board.

I can't have a looper pedal that might break during a set. It's not like any pedal where you can just play around it—if you compose your songs around it, it becomes inherent to your entire set.
>>
>>71057032
Yup, it's a 140. Keep in mind it's babby scale 22.75".

>>71057053
I use D'addario 10-46 on my E standard Explorer, did a calculation to use 13-59 custom set on my C standard Epiphone SG and get same tension as 10-46.

Here's an 11-50

Without a doubt this hot piece of garbage. I was a youngun, into my first year of playing guitar, and I wanted a distortion pedal. The shopkeeper in my local music store was a scumbag and immediately saw I was a guitar noob, and got me to buy this piece of shit instead of a decent distortion pedal. He was like "nah man, forget about one pedal, you can have so much more with this unit!". It was unusable, even as a noob I saw that I fucked up once I got it home and tried to get some decent sounds out of it.

I traded it some years later for a set of new Etnies sneakers lel

I own a nice OD and a fuzz pedal, the DS-2 just sounds like a wasp in a jar compared to them
>>
>>71057152
My brother owned an early Zoom multi fx, jesus it sucked at distortion. Other effects weren't much to write home about either.
>>
>>71057138
Musicians around my country and neighbouring countries. I attend a lot of underground/indie concerts, and a lot of these dudes which I saw play Squier teles, jazzmasters, jaguars and strats honestly sounded very good.
>>
>>71057192
Bet they have a pedal board big enough to need a separate van.
>>
>>71057180
Exactly, distortion was absolutely unacceptable. I still cringe when I think about how it sounded. Chorus, delay and other effects were somewhat 'decent', but like you said, nothing to write home about.
>>
>>71057215
Haha, yeah, some of them really did. But a lot of them played just with through the amp, maybe a pedal or two.

That sucks. If you're unhappy with something in your gear, you need to sell it immediately and get something else. I fucked up with the Zoom pedal and got something else, simple as that. You can't let disappointment and disgust with something that you got hold you back, much less eliminate your drive for music. Maybe you could get him back into guitar?

He got into drugs and alcohol, sold all his shit, got himself committed, got himself clean, then moved to as far away from where I live and still be in the same country.

His guitar might have been worth a pretty penny today, MIJ contemporary strat with that horrible Kahler copy bridge and locking nut that ate strings.
>>
>>71057390
Sorry, schaller copy, not kahler.
>>
I need helping the name of an instrument, and yes I did try google and got nothing back. It's basically a 6-string electric guitar, kinda has a jazzmaster/mustang body with slide-y bars for tonal control and functions like an electric, but is apparently a few pitches toned down to be the middle between an electric guitar and bass. I think it's called something like bassics I don't know

>>
>>71057301
>I have the regular ditto and love it. I've found no problems as of yet
I hear that pedal is a more reliable industry standard. The X4 is pretty new, maybe they just launched a bad batch. The problem I have is the radio silence from TC electronic. Whenever I see a large portion of users complain about issues with no feedback or statement, I try to drop that company pretty quickly. Either say you're working on improving things with a firmware update, a new batch, or that it's working as intended and passes high quality control standards. Give me SOMETHING to evaluate, ffs. Radio Silence is unacceptable in the high speed information age where a statement can be prepared in an hour. They have websites and forums.

Can you tell me about how you use your loop? Are you able to have more than one of the loops going at once? In a live performance, do you use one hypothetically for a chorus then switch to another loop for different parts of the song? That's my biggest concern with my single ditto is that although I can layer infinitely, I can't change the theme without starting over and losing my old one

>>
>>71057626
Bro, that's kind of a rip. I'm sure there are Chinese pickups that meet those specs. Also, be sure to only get staggered pole pieces if you're getting a small radius neck. If you're going for a 9"-12" flat pieces are probably better. The specs to focus on are basically wire type(thick or thin insulation), resistance, magnet type, and scatter or standard wound.

Does anybody have a good resource on how to improve my rhythm guitar playing? Specifically, I'm trying to play Chic's Le Freak which is more of a riff than full chords. I know how to keep a good "chucka chucka" motion with my right hand, but I'm only able to do it across all the strings. The song I'm learning is focused on two strings, so I have to individually pick and mute those notes. My trouble is that if I try to apply the right hand motion to those single strings, I accidentally hit the open strings beyond what I need to hit, sounding like shit.

>>
>>71058054
One of the greatest guitar riffs of all time. And very tricky to play with the same level of feel and class of Nile Rodgers.

It's all in the left hand. You squeeze on the bass strings with your thumb and damp the strings with your other fingers. Then change to squeezing down with your index finger while the thumb damps the bass strings. That way you can alternate between emphasizing the bass then the treble strings. Takes a lot of practice to get the coordination right.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvDiD_vbwpg
>>
>>71058054
Your strumming is probably fine, what you want to focus on is the muting, which you want to do with both hands. Any fingers that aren't fretting should be lightly resting on the unused strings. That way, those strings don't ring out and also add a more percussive sound.

Metal is probably one of the genres where you can get away with light strings since you use so much distortion.

I play Jazz and heavy strings are desirable because they give you a "thicker sound" in the sense of bassier bass strings and the fundamental pitch in your single notes is more pronounced on the treble strings.

Thicker sound means more harmonics and warmth--thicker string have better low mid frequency response and different rolloff which gives sounds a perceived "fatness" and "roundness", which feels thicker. Also more sustain with fatter strings, and that volume leveling gives almost a compression feel.

M8, you don't know what you're talking about. That joint is very good, I can even hold the pickup up by that wire. It is a bit less shiny then most example joints because I'm using rosin-core solder. I've soldered hundreds of joints, I know what I'm doing. I already sanded it with my preferred grit and wiped it. I sure as hell didn't using rubbing alcohol to wipe it. What the hell do you think a microscopic amount of water is going to do at 450°? It doesn't stay in the joint or on the surface.

No. The Baritone guitar has a longer scale length and is tuned lower than a normal guitar.

The guitar anon pictures is a BASS VI. It is essentially a short scale six string bass.

Two different instruments. The Bass VI won't distort and chord like the baritone guitar and a baritone guitar does not sound like a bass.

Also, Schecter makes better Bass VI than Squire.

Not that guy but I equate a shit guitar to not being able to set it up to play comfortably. Like no matter how much you adjust shit, the strings still a mile away from the fretboard, can't get it to stop buzzing, max out truss rod and still too bowed, can't set the intonation, etc. Like it needs major work or new parts to get it good. Where a non-shit guitar can be properly set up to play comfortably.
>>
>>71062015
If there aren't dead frets and aren't worn to shit, and it doesn't make crazy buzzing noise when plugged in.. I'd say $100 is reasonable. I'd still try to jew him down to like $75 tho.

Yeah I'd buy it even if i didn't want it. But I don't mind ugly af or beat up. I usually get complacent about the aesthetics and play them more frequently as i don't care if they get fucked up. >>71062377

>>
>>71064344
>let them acclimate
kek and listen to it jump way out of pitch every time you lay your hands on it and the metal contracts and expands. no you don't own one. the tuning struggles aren't worth the odd tone in my opinion. they are great if it doesn't matter if yourr in tune or not
>>

>>
>>71064461

who could possibly prove you wrong though? guys like buzzo and albini who have used them and other aluminum guitars for years without problem, because they know how to use them? nah, you're the one
>>
>>71064501
albini uses a travis bean which has a thick wooden fretboard which helps with the tuning issues common to aluminum necks. he never used an egc live except for a handful of times. buzzo has recently started using travis bean instead of his egc guitars for the same reason. they like the clangy tone but even they can't stomach the tuning issues
>>
>>71064587
>buzzo has recently started using travis bean instead of his egc guitars for the same reason.

what

I saw Melvins 3 weeks ago and he used one EGC throughout the whole set.
>>
>>71064687
so you don't know the difference between a travis bean and an egc then
>>
I'm sort of freaking out currently. My low e is incredibly fucked and I don't know why.

I can tune it to e perfectly, but every fretted note is wildly out of tune, f being the worst. I checked with a tuner. None of my other strings exhibit this

I recently put on flat wounds at a much thicker gauge than usual. As well, I can tell the neck has a forward bow, which I think was caused by the added tension of the flatwounds.

Oh god damn this is fucking savage. I don't think I've never seen someone get blown the fuck out this hard on /gg/ before
>talk shit
>get hit
>>
/gg/, I have 2 guitars, both hard tail, both 25.5 scale length and looks like almost the same headstock angle.
Why the fuck 11-56 at Drop C, feels alright in one, but to get the same tension, I need 12-60 in the other one. Both sets are D'Addario.
I initially wanted to go with drop B with the 12-60 set, but it felt too slinky.
What gives?
>>
>>71066587
do the have the same bridges, and do they have the same amount of total string?

Same amount of strings, but the bridges are different. The drop c one is an Ibby with a Gibraltar bridge. The other is a Hipshot.
Initially I measured the same action in both, and the necks looked straight, with a little relief.
But the 12-60 was too flabby so I kept raising the action. Ultimately lowered the action and upped the tuning.
Perhaps it is the nut.
>>
>>71066690
nono, not the same amount of string(s). same amount of STRING. as in, is one bridge a string-thru, and is one a top-loaded bridge?

and do they have the same amount of string past the nut? same headstock, etc?

you can make a big difference in feel on, say, a tune o matic just by raising the tailpiece so you have less of a break angle
>>
>>71066719
Oh.
Both are string-thru.
The headstocks are different though, the Ibby being 6 in line, and the other 3+3. Almost same angle though.

I suppose if they had floyds the tensions should indeed be almost the same, as they have the clamps in the nuts.
>>
>>71066781
a part of having tension feel different is how far the strings are going past the nut. the 3+3 has more travel on the D string etc
>>
>>71066801
>how far past the nut
So, it there were a clamp/clip or something similar to the string guides in fenders, the same string at the same tuning in the same guitar would feel different, more tense, right?
>>
>>71066835
if it's

1. a string past the nut is under a string tree or something similar

vs

2.a string going past the nut straight to a peg with nothing inbetween

yes, there's more tension

there's a bit less when you have straight travel on the string from nut to peg. I've broken more strings on Gibsons than any other brand because of all this shit and it's why I swear by either a PRS or Fender style headstock
>>
>>71066868
Thanks about the explanation. I guess it means I have to deal with it, and try other strings so i can get a similar feeling.

On 4chan you're pretty much fucked unless you build it(and not just assemble it). But on places that know the smaller companies like rondo, as well as higher end ones like gelvin, will generally get kudos from modders in the former case and from others in the latter.

Sup guys can anyone give feedback on this mixing?

https://clyp.it/zxcfiae1

Its supposed to be the final, mastered version (except for the solo which i will make one of my own, but the sound will be the same)

I'm finding it muddy, as individual instruments arent very clear, what do you think

it's a perfect mix, because it's hard to hear how bad you are at playing guitar

Bassist here, planning on buying a low-end baritone or a regular guitar. I know jackshit about pick-ups and guitar types though.
I don't really do gigs and I play whatever genre I feel like, although if I was to get a bit more serious, I'd most likely play mid-00's post-hardcore (think These Arms Are Snakes) influences and maybe stuff like Russian Circles or midwest emo. When not using distortion I prefer a clean, warm tone, but other than that, I'm not really needy.

As for my basses, I use two almost identical Corts with PJ pickups, one with flatwounds for the mellow stuff and jazz and one with round for the angrier twangs.

I've been eyeing with SQ Jazzmaster Baritones. What are the pros and cons of a Jazzmaster? Is it what I'm looking for?

Also, is it optimal to use a bari with a bass head?
>>
>>71069753
you need more strings senpai
>>71070246
>pros:
the lead/rhythm circuit can sometimes be good
p90s are good
>cons:
shitty bridge
fender stock hardware is poop

it's optimal to use a bass amp for every kind of guitar :^)

...no really it sounds tits
