It's a piece of cheapChinese plywood shit It won't sound good, it'll be awful to play, you'll get pissed off with it and it'll gather dust in the corner of your room. If you can't afford at least a Squier CV or an Epiphone then you're just wasting your money.

Listen to this anon buy a squier because even if you don't upgrade for years at least you have a decent beginner guitar.
>>
>>70801126
what if Im not a beginner player but an acoustic only cuck
>>
>>70800861
No, because you should always start with an acoustic. I started with a shitty old acoustic (thing was probably about 60 years old at that point) that was meant for nylon strings, but had been strung with steel instead.

The action and string tension on it was so bad no one could play an F at the first fret if they were trying to barre the strings. The neck was bowed and the guitar was always out of tune at certain places because of it.

But I perservered and kept at it, and today I am a competent guitarist.

>>70801001
Is that called "ravioli" because that's what the guy vomits up from 0:39 - 1:00?

Oldest thing I have is this (posted it also in the last thread)
https://clyp.it/lesl1jmc
I did remaster it a while back (idk why I did that instead of just re-recording it t.b.h) and I just figured out I must have recorded it in 2002, judging by the October 2002 date stamp on when I uploaded it to GeoCities.
Here's a remastered copy I mixed into fake stereo from the original mono recording:
https://clyp.it/ncxcavgw
Recorded about 2 years after I started off with the almost-unplayable acoustic when I was 14.
>>
>>70801066
what do you think of the mel9? do you have any clips of you playing with it?
>>
>>70801139
Get a squier or go to a music store and get a decent electric.

My teacher uses his squier over his other guitars cause he got it set perfectly for him.

Nothing wrong with acoustic btw

Not a fan of these uncanny valley strats. The body shape is just slightly off.

Shame, they probably play and sound pretty good. I kinda like the bridge too.
>>
>>70801169
Body looks like it's half way between a strat and a gibson SG. But that's not the worst thing about it... That headstock...
>>
>>70801152
I like it alot, sounds a lot like a real mellotron. I love that you can bend the strings and it follows. Ive used a C9, and while that had nicer and more versatile sounds, this one sounds more real.

I can upload a video of it later

In terms of learning songs, you can get them into muscle memory using it but you'll still need the chart in front of you to play them.

>>
>>70802422
Poor hand syncronisation (as long as the note registered it didn't matter how clean it sounded), digging in with the pick and getting it caught on the strings, inefficient movements and seemingly holding the pick wrong in general.

Still trying to fix it. You should be fine using Rocksmith as long as you focus on hitting the notes properly in a way the feels easy and fluid, and not spastically attempting to navigate passages like I did.

>>70802399
but you'll probably get murdered

You know intervals?

Intervals: take every note (C, D, E, F, G, A, B). And count the intervals between them starting from C.

Interval from 1 to 2: 1 step. Interval from 2 to 3: 1 step. Interval from 3 to 4: half step. Interval from 1 to 3: 2 steps.
Ok now you know what are intervals. By the way these intervals starting from C are the Major Scale.

Do a C major chord. What are the notes on it? C, E and G.
What is the E? It is the 3 in the C Major scale. What is the G? It is the 5 of the C Major scale.

A Triad is that, the notes of the chord. The 1, 3 and 5 notes of the chord.

Ok saved you two months worth of guitar theory lessons, pay me a set of strings please

I have no pedals but that's mostly because I'm poor and when I do have enough I'm too chickenshit to buy anything because there's so much to choose from.

I might get a decent multi-fx. If I use any of the effects enough and I want a better version I'll get a dedicated pedal for it.

Honestly, ive just started getting serious about bass after dicking around with it for years, i decided to look up bass backing tracks and i seriously just sat there playing to them for the last hour and a half. I would solo every so often, but mostly i was just in the pocket playing walking lines. There was 1 with one with a 10 minute guitar solo where i mostly just rode the root the whole time. I had a blast. I fuggin hate playing guitar to blues, it's like playing covers of songs i dont know or like.

>>
>>70805388

>>
>>70805345
Bolt on has more sustain, and if its common you can easily find a replacement it it breaks, truss rod breaks, or whatever.

Set neck has easier high fret access generally, looks and feels nicer usually. Much harder to replace, and you wont be able to find one. Youll have to have a luthier make one for it, and itll destroy the original finish unless the joint is under a pickguard(like an sg).

Thru neck is the same but it would be impossible to reppace the neck. They can look visually stunning, or tacky. Where the neck ends and the body begins(cant really call it a neck joint) is usually very smooth.

The thing I've heard about neck throughs it that the neck material becomes the body material too, for better or worse. If you have a maple neck and it's a neck through, that means a significant portion of the body is maple too.
>>
>>70805550
pleb
>>
>>70805529
OK, what's your Strat?
If it's a MIM Strat, you could actually buy a cheap Wilkinson WV6SB
Might be a slight improvement over stock small zinc trem, and it has this easy trem insert thingy
(and your guitar might go a bit less out of tune)
>>
>>70805579
Thats correct. That's what allows for deep cuts and a neck that can taper to the same thickness as the body. Upper fret access is great, much more comfortable than say a telecaster where at the 17th position you abruptly have your hand around the neck and body. The neck and body is twice as thick as the neck alone.
>>
>>70805550
>pedals will fix my shitty guitar and shitty playing

>>70805602
Yeah it's a MIM, I think it's one of the higher end ones though if that matters, I'm pretty sure it's got american pickups for example. It's the 60th anniversary 50s strat to be more specific

So I'm looking for an entry level guitar around $300 range and a couple of the artwood Ibanez's caught my eye. They have the Mahogany body I'm looking for, wider nut width, and I really like the open pore finish. But Ibanez makes me pretty hesitant.

Anyone have any experience with this line of guitars? They also claim that the open pore finish allows for greater resonance but that sounds like a snake oil claim, is open pore a meme? I just like the aesthetic of satin over gloss personally but I'm curious if there's any merit to that.

Pic is the Parlor (AVN5OPN), I'd be looking at that or their Grand Concert (AC240OPN)
>>
>>70805645
You're correct, however the point I was making is that maple makes a great neck wood, but not so much a body wood. With a neck through you've got a huge portion of the body made of maple. There's a reason maple body guitars aren't a common thing.
There's got to be something to say for that instead of a nice bolt on where the body can be made out of all alder or whatever it is you're body is made of.

And speaking of bolt ons, has anyone made as good of a joint as the all access neck joint Ibanez uses?
>>
>>70805675
Just open the back cover & check if it's a small zinc block
>>
>>70805694
The bracing and thickness of the top have far more yo do with resonance than pores.

>>70805694
>But Ibanez makes me pretty hesitant.
You've been meme'd lad, the Gio line aside Ibenhads are more value for money than anything else going.

But all cheap acoustics sound the same anyway so just pick one that feels the best.
>>
>>70805705
Maple makes a fine body wood. Hard maple has a higher janka rating than ash or walnut. The alleged instability of maple would be more of an issue with a neck, and its hardly ever an issue. As long as the wood is seasoned properly. Youll even find maple necks that arent varnished that havent twisted or warped.

>>
>>70805834
Actually I worded it wrongly (apparently)
I meant that whatever you do, the first one will be the less well-executed.
So you have to do something easy, and catchy first.

I do that 99% of the time.
This way, even if you fuck up big time, it's still gonna sound good
and you'll build confidence
everyone's mood will improve
and you'll perform better the other songs.

BTW song order do matters
try to create a mood
you build up intensity, you make it explode, you recover...
Try to make anything harmonious.

And actually, if all of your songs are unknown/created by you, you may want to incorporate some familiar sounding riffs, some references, or actually cover a familiar song
>>
>>70805345
Bolt on>>>lightyears>neckthru>>>dog shit>>>set neck

"tone" arguments are bullshit, the connection between neck and body being good is way more important than joint type. Sustain is a different story, and bolt on wins by a long shot on standard guitars
>>
>>70805834
Maple is heavy as fuck. An all maple guitar would weigh a ton.

People incorrectly assume a Les Paul is so heavy because of the mahogany body, but it's actually because of the thick maple cap.
>>
>>70805539
ed roman would tell you set necks have the worst sustain

if he wasnt dead
>>
>>70806007
Les pauls are heavy because theyre thick in general, the maple just doesnt help. Typical neck through guitars have at most a 3 inch wide wide piece of maple in the center of the body, and some are even less, like 5 piece construction that has 2 strips of walnut accounting for some of the width. A guitar needs so weight to it to prevent neck dive anyways.

I have a fender precision bass im trying to trade for a head

A guy offered me a peavey windsor 100 and a fuzzface for it

Should i hold out? Was more after a sovtek or ampeg head. Going for big mids and a diverse qotsa sound

If you use directional mics bleed through should be minimal.

what kind of mic is good? the quality doesn't matter too much, I always recorded my songs with my iphone lel
does a normal voice mic for 20 bucks do the job?

>thought i messed the wiring up on my guitar when i changed the pickguard
>bring it into a local shop that doesn't do much advertising and expect the dude to just take it and give it back to me in a week for a ridiculous price
>he brings me to the back, takes it apart in front of me and explains the electronics for an hour, then fixes the issue

my god what a bro. told him to do a full setup just to give him the work. small guitar shops are so much better than chains its insane

>sustain

Why do guitarists obsess over sustain? How much sustain do you need? All my Strats sustain just fine, plenty longer than a bar length. I don't write music that sustains notes for three fucking days so why do I need muh sustain?

Sustain is a con. It's an advertising buzzword now, something any manufacturer can claim without any need to prove it. And all the cork-sniffers just swallow that shit, Oh, you've got to get mahognay darling, it has MOOOOOOORE SUSTAAAAAIN.

Fuck off sustain. Come up with come demonstrably reliable way to measure sustain or stop wanking on about it.

Bad quality because this was recorded on my phone in a big shop/garage, I play sloppy, and my loop pedal was slightly off (shout out to my buddy on drums for hanging with it).

Warning: Listen at your own risk. This is noodling
>>
>>70807332
No, wait, there's more.

I saw an experiment where the attack portion of note from several instruments were edited out and people could only hear

>the sustain

portion. Without the attack portion of the notes, listeners couldn't tell if they were listening to a violin, guitar, organ or a fucking trombone. It's the attack of a note that makes it recognisable, as long as your guitar has more sustain than a fucking banjo then quit wanking on about fucking sustain.

If you're a guitarist then you should at least know how to do simple electronic repairs. And you should at least own a soldering iron and a multimeter.

I guess I'm lucky then, I've gotten by for 6 years without having soldered anything in my life. In that case, I'll go ahead and learn. Do soldering irons matter or can I just get any one and be okay?

This is utterly boring to look at

Worst part is that I the craftsmanship must be out of this world
>>

Something like an Antex iron is good for guitar use,15 or 25 Watts is fine. Might want to watch a few "how to solder" videos and practice before you start on the guitar, the trick is to heat the wire and the thing you're going to solder it to then touch the solder onto both and let it melt and run onto both. Don't try to pick up a blob of solder on the iron and just dump it on the metal, that's what most people try first time and it just doesn't work.

Oddly enough, just like what I think of BC rich

Low end models are garbage
High end models are tacky and overpriced
Their basses are fun as fuck though
