In the lower end I would rather have an epiphone desu. I don't like Gibson's low end guitars, they feel like they're half finished with the "faded" finishes. You might not have a problem with that though so you could check out the lower end Gibsons, they generally have slightly nicer pickups but that's about it.

If you want a real nice guitar look for a Japanese Epiphone with the Gibson headstock, they'll set you back about $700 but these are imo just as good if not better than higher end Gibsons.

Finally sold the rest of my gear and have downsized to the absolute bare minimal I want. No more Ibanez MEHTUL guitars and bass. No more 100 pound bass rig. No more ridiculous 4x12" cabinet.

Lol.... well...

I'm using two different bluetooth speakers. The blue one's are "50 watt" (Chinese so probably uses a car audio 12watt amp) the little "subs" handle bass decently for a living room.... Drop C# and lower, it sucks ass. Excellent for guitar though, lots of volume headroom.

Guitar -> 1/4" cable -> Multi-Effect pedal -> 1/4" to Stereo RCA (RED/WHITE) females -> RCA red/white males to the inputs. It's super quiet with the mono instrument cable input, so I have it split to stereo.

Then an Anker bluetooth speaker. The $35 Amazon one.

Guitar -> 1/4" - 1/8" adapter -> 1/8" aux cable -> Anker box

Maxed volume is a bit louder than an acoustic. I'm iffy about using the pedal, I don't want to blow the speakers. Crystal clear highs, good mids, but muddy lows, of course. Guitar only of course. It has like, 1.5" speakers.

it gets the job done. I've lost my skillz and don't have a lot of time to play.

Well when I was 19-22, I played in two different bands. One played at the Whiskey A Go Go in hollywood. The other, backyard shows, and the Queen Mary in Long Beach. We grew up, got jobs, and the hobby slowly drifted away for some of us. Cabinets take up too much space, but I don;t jam with anyone. No need for the volume.

I know lots of "pros" that regularly still play small venues, there's no shame in not playing arenas. If my wife told me I had to get rid of my amps/cabinets, I would go off on the bitch ,they really don't take up "that" much space.

I'm probably around your age (will be 30 this year) and I'm seeing a lot of guys letting their wives cuck them into giving up their dreams. It's a sad thing to see. Like I said, even retards have musical careers these days. There's no reason to ever stop playing to your maximum potential.

Here's a tough couple chords to change between:
e 1(1) e 2(1)
B 3(3) B 2(1)
G 4(4) To G 3(4)
D x D x
A x A x
E 2(2) E 2(2)

*Parenthesis are fingers assigned to the notes.

This prominently featured in Rossiniana No 1 and it switches between the two multiple times in one measure.
The first finger should barre the first two strings the whole time to preempt when the second chord necessitates it.

Dang. Have you been to the shows? It was a bitchin' experience. The metal hulls of the cargo level's just resonate like crazy. Horrible sound acoustics. 2 bands going on each floor. What a disaster actually. Yeah us broke 19 year old had a hard time coming up with the ticket money for that one. Now I've made that shit in a single day.

That's the original color before sanding back isn't it? If I were you I would sand back a little more so only the black grain is visible and use a stain that's slightly lighter. That's how Martin,Gibson etc do it

Otherwise you're just wasting time sanding it back desu. Something like this, but you could do a darker shade of brown/grey if you want that dark color.

dominant chords, eh? major or minor?

Can I play a dominant chord were a minor or major would be played?
>>
>>70530563
You can think of it as a modal progression in G Lydian, or simply B Minor.

In G Lydian, D would be a Maj7 but since it's the V chord you can susbtitute a Dominant, and what would be the ii chord in G Major becomes a II7.

That's the way I see it, anyway. It sounds good resolving to Bm, so maybe just think of it as key of B minor.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Same here. /gg/ is still stuck in the metal/rock/blues orthodoxy. Rarely see any next level playing on here

Yes, mostly if you paid good money for it. i bought a Gibson lp studio once and didnt bother to check everything until like 3 months after....the electronics were all epiphone chinese crap. by then the seller was gone and ebay couldnt do anything

Because most people that play guitar are plebs that don't move out of the entry-level genres.
Guitar is the de facto pleb instrument, there's nothing you can do about it.
>>
>>70532169
Except it was neither musical, nor complex, nor good in any way

made a riff, what do you guys think?

I don't care if you play what you enjoy, what happens is that if what you enjoy is rock/metal/blues then you're a pleb.
>>
>>70532149
I was definitely going to do it anyways but what should I check for initially?
>>70532160
I payed around $300 so not necessarily something that would throw me into poverty but it looks so fucking cool I would be devastated if it broke on me

It's still bad, it wouldn't be as bad if this retard used a real amp instead of whatever starter pack amp he is using.

What do you think of Andrew White guitars?

i'm using a micro terror and a 1x12 blackstar cabinet

Use your fingers

then now is a perfect time to learn how to tone
>>
>>70532299
never played one but I really like their shapes. Seem like pretty decent guitars.

What would you describe as "his place"?

Seriously, I'm thinking about joining a local band as a bass player, and i would like to know how to not be "that guy".
>>
>>70532505
You just need to be submissive, listen to what you're told and shut up when the big boys are talking.
>>
>>70532505
>What would you describe as "his place"?

Do what I say and don't ask questions.

>last bassist had problems with this so I had buy a bass myself and now I just record some simple backing lines to accompany my playing

Perfect.
>>
>>70530603
as someone who's deeply studied his lines in a farewell to kings/hemispheres era rush, i can tell you they are both. they're almost all busy but they serve the song and sound good while doing it
>>
>>70532397
what are your suggestions for the tone?

also, take 3 of the riff
https://soundcloud.com/justin1171/still-waiting-chorus-take-3

i think the tone may be making it sound like i was just playing power chords when really i wasn't. now i'm breaking it up to try to make the counterpoint stand out
>>
>>70532505
let the drummer mount you and let the guitarist do what he wants with you

Hey, /gg/. I wanted to start playing guitar. Anyone know a good starter, then I van get a better one for myself later on. I think I'd like my first to only be 400 at most. After that I don't mind. Thanks, guys.
>>
>>70532674
what kind of music do u listen to fgt
>>
>>70532505
Guitarfags like to talk like they're hotshit when in truth you're the important one.
You kick a stone and you get 50 guitarists, good luck finding decent bassists that aren't just downgraded guitarists.
>>
>>70532618
>i think the tone may be making it sound like i was just playing power chords when really i wasn't.

No it literally sounds bad. I'm not talking about the actual playing. Sort out your knobs it'll sound better.
>>
>>70532618
Slow down, practice muting and rhythm and learn to dial in a less muddy tone.
>>
>>70532618
That's sloppy and the tone is horrible.
Also counterpoint my ass, that's just a standard metal riff.
>>
>>70532618
A guitar is capable of couterpoint, but what you're doing is not.

I don't know much about distortion so I won't talk much about the tone but the sound is plain dirty, and it's probably not purely because of effects, you should try playing it clean until it sounds perfect before adding distortion.
>>
>>70532719
Anything, but primary is usually Indie, Rock, and most things that involve a guitar.
>>
>>70532861
>>70532805
the riff includes counterpoint though.. i can upload a video of me playing it if you want
>>
>>70532673
Um, i don't that's what this guy >>70532535 meant by "submissive"
>>
>>70532925
show the sheet then
I'm 90% sure your definition of counterpoint is skewered.
>>
>>70532945
yes
>>
>>70532925
You alternate between palm-muted low notes and medium-ranged notes but I don't see an interplay between multiple voices.

im tired of recording guitar parts when needed out of electric bass
what cheap used guitar for DI recordings do you recommend? ~150$
>>
>>70532885
any steel string acoustic guitar or electric with passive pickups will be fine for you then.

rock - strat, lp, sg, tele
indie - jaguar, mustang, jazzmaster, duosonic

dont go any cheaper than yamaha fg800 or squier vintage modified series if you plan to stick with it

here the counterpoint in the first part is slowed down and clean. the second part also has counterpoint
http://vocaroo.com/i/s1hzkT3ltrgz

same exact notes are being played. first an oblique contrapuntal motion, then a similar contrapuntal motion, then another oblique, then a contrary into a power chord. i'm not downloading sheet music software to show you it if you can't hear it now
