I have too much music and I never found the filesize/quality ratio to be worth it, at least with my headphones.

if I have an extremely rare album or a CD that nobody else has ripped, then I usually keep flac just for archival purposes.

You say things like this because you don't understand the nature of audio files. FLAC uses lossless compression, while MP3 is 'lossy'. What this means is that for each year the MP3 sits on your hard drive, it will lose roughly 12kbps, assuming you have SATA - it's about 15kbps on IDE, but only 7kbps on SCSI, due to rotational velocidensity. You don't want to know how much worse it is on CD-ROM or other optical media.

I started collecting MP3s in about 2001, and if I try to play any of the tracks I downloaded back then, even the stuff I grabbed at 320kbps, they just sound like crap. The bass is terrible, the midrange…well don’t get me started. Some of those albums have degraded down to 32 or even 16kbps. FLAC rips from the same period still sound great, even if they weren’t stored correctly, in a cool, dry place. Seriously, stick to FLAC, you may not be able to hear the difference now, but in a year or two, you’ll be glad you did.

I just want everyone on here to know that I convert 128kbps music to flac and share it over soulseek and various torrents

two of my favorite albums, nothing else.

I only listen to music on vinyl and 4-track reel to reel. Anything less is disgusting.

I collect CDs so I don't bother with flac since it's only really useful for archival purposes.

I have a zipped FLAC archive for everything. My day to day music is 192-320kbps MP3. Mostly VBR. I'd say only 5% is actually 192kbps though. Most is 320kbps. Medium amount is 256kbps. And I'd say 10% for everyday listening is .flac

And another 5% is .cda

99% of what i listen to, because fuck it, why not? storage is cheap.
