Use duplicolor lacquer spray from automotive stores
Use:

Deft sanding sealer
1 can primer
2 cans paint
2 cans clear

the cans are expensive and small ($8 per can), you can get away with just using some clear lacquer spray from home depot, thats for doing a whole body

what do you want to paint on the guitar?

Try some sus2 chords

Csus2
x 3 5 5 3 3

Dsus2
x 5 7 7 5 5

You can also play major and minor chords as power chords with the root of the chord on the D string and the third in the bass like this:

EMaj
4 x 2 4 5 x

Emin
3 x 2 4 5 x

You can play power chords with the fifth in the bass to give them a heavier, fuller sound:

D5
5 5 7 7 x x

E5
7 7 9 9 x x

There are some chords you can play with open strings:

D5
x 0 0 2 3 x

G5
3 x 0 0 3 3

The Hendrix chord (7#9) sounds pretty good even with thick distortion:

E7#9
x 7 6 7 8 x
>>
>>70000784
4mm but get a whole set of metric for like a fiver.
>>
>>70000784
1/8" for fenders

other dude is saying 4mm, which could be the case for asian stuff

buy both
>>
>>70000861
good to know, I avoided falling for buying the 1/8 key from the fender jews
>>
>>70000895
my squier is chinese so maybe I'll be better off with the 4mm one
>>
>>70000950
remember, you're not buying some special truss rod adjustment tool, you're buying a plain old allen wrenches. Just get both. You can get a fucking set of allen wrenches for like $5.
>>
>>70000375

Truss rods that take an ordinary allen wrench are usually 4mm or 5/32". They are close enough in size to be interchangeable between metric/imperial (5/32" = 3.96mm).

I just tried the wrench that came with my am deluxe on my chinese squire. It didn't even have a fucking hex socket. I don't even know what it is, like some kind of slot.

on my indonesian squire, the wrench was too small, so 4mm is right, I guess.
>>
>>70001084

1/8" = 3.17mm so you can get away with using a 3mm on those. Wrap a piece of masking tape over your allen wrench to shim the difference.
>>

Also very useful are smaller diads like thirds (major and minor):

Cmaj diad
x 3 2 x x x

Dmaj diad
x 5 4 x x x

Emin diad
x 7 5 x x x

Another very useful kind of diad is a root note with the third in the bass like this:

Bmaj diad
x 6 9 x x x

Amaj diad
x 4 7 x x x

Another diad is just the root note with the fifth in the bass like:

G5
x 5 5 x x x

Bb5
x x 3 3 x x

C5
x x 5 5 x x

(think "Smoke on the Water")

Let me wrap things up with the Tritone interval. You hear George Lynch and Mötley Crüe use this one all the time:

Tritone on E
x 7 8 x x x

Tritone on D
x 5 6 x x x

And here's an example of tritones sounding rather bitchin':

You need a 5mm I have a CV Squire Strat. Bought a set of Allen wrenches for a dollar or two at Walmart. I forgot the smallest size but you can use it to adjust the saddle height.
>>
>>70001211
>I bought a cheap guitar and it's shit
Did you have it set up when you bought it? If you did bring it back and explain the issue and I'm sure they'll help you out. If not bring it in and see if a tech can help you.
>>
Speaking of guitar specific tools, the thing that annoys me the most is the height adjustment screws on some bridge saddles. Some companies insist on making those the tiniest possible. The Hipshot Kickass bridge on one of my basses takers 1.5mm. I mean holy shit can you not at least make that an even 2mm? A lot of basic allen key sets don't even come with a 1.5mm.
>>
I'm thinking about buying a mastermind so I can put all my pedals in a rack.

>>
>>70001414
this reminds me of one of my favorite local bands

the bassist usually wears fish nets and rolls around on the floor

the singer is a big sweaty fat guy.

they dedicate all their songs to random shit. he dedicated a song to paula dean. he pulls out a tub of margarine and rolls and spends the entire song buttering rolls and throwing them at people in the crowd. not tossing them, like whipping them at peoples' faces.
>>
>>70001567
>lol so RANdum XD
>>
>>70001567

Oh my god, that sounds awesome if the crowd is actually into it. I really enjoy when bands do their own thing. (Provided that they have fans that reciprocate the act)
>>
>>70001505
No problem man. I didn't want to mess with anything with the guitar but adjusting the height was so straightforward. Same with intonation, truss rod and raising the pickup height for a pickup that was too quiet.

Going to look into painting and some soldering stuff when taking out the pickups.
>>
>>70001567

Cool. I'd love to get into DIY customizing, but I'm pretty strapped for cash right now, hence why I had to get an Epiphone.
>>
>>70001303

Wait, just double checked this. It's not the bridge that needs 1.5mm, it was the set screws on the pot knobs on that bass.
>>
>>70001728

It's pretty fun once you get a handle on how everything works in relation to everything else on a guitar. Also addictive. You start looking at cheap instruments with an eye towards breaking them down for parts to make frankenstein instruments.

Speaking of which I am just in the process of collecting the couple things I will need to do a fretless conversion on my cheapo bass. That will be the biggest job I have tackled so far.

Were Rickenbacker basses ever made in Belgium? A local store has one used, but it's kinda suspicious. It's less than half the price a Rick would normally be, the wood pieces of the headstock are weird, there's no "rick-o-sound" written on the 2 outputs and the neck is all weirdly glued like it was torn off and there's sperm-like stuff in the upper frets. But it DOES sound like a rick, at least to me!

EQ pedal is like a pocket multi-tool. You don't necessarily have a specific use in mind for it when you take it with you in your pocket but somehow you run in to several uses for it on frequent basis. I've even used my EQ as a jerry rigged kill switch when my tuner pedal went on the fritz and I had to put my battery powered non-pedal one in to the loop temporarily (EQ after battery tuner in chain, gain slider turned all the way down).

So I took an... extended break from guitar and am trying to fix some bad habits, quick question
Power chords: fingers 1+3 or 1+4?
Same question for 3 string power chords: 1+3(3 barred) or 1+3+4?
>>
>>70004846
1+3, 1+3+4 unless a specific part requires those fingers otherwise
>>
>>70004846
Whatever works for you. I use two fingers.
>>
>>70004866
Been doing the latter and former respectively, guess now's a good time to change. Thanks
>>
>>70004846
i use 1+4 on the larger spaced frets, like below the 5th fret. it's just less stretching, otherwise i use 1+3

for 3 strings i always use 1+3+4. just feels cleaner and i'm more in control
>>
Im trying to learn how to slide, but my fingers keep sticking to the fretboard. Theyre not sweaty or anything, and I dont have a death grip on the neck either.
Is it because of the finish on the neck, or is it just because I need practice?
>>
>>70004846
1+3
1+4 is in the same tier as doing an Em with the index and middle fingers
>>
>>70004994
Could be either, things tend to feel awkward and wrong if you hesitate rather than powering through it. Go to a guitar center or something and see if you have the same issues on various display models
>>
>>70005132
1+4 is just more comfortable sometimes

and the only proper way to play an Em is middle and ring

While that's true, it can still be done with smaller picks. Look at what the Nashville guys play. Almost all of them use smaller picks.
>>
>>70007193
Post photos of headstock.

Personally unless it's REALLY bothering him, I wouldn't - it's part of the patina on a 50 year old guitar - think battlescars.

You don't want to half ass it and fuck it up with a cheap ebay decal.

If you're set on it, go to a luthier that specializes in restorations to have it done properly.
>>
>>70004254

Not rare but a $250 bass compressor. I only use bass compression for a couple specific things and can achieve those adequately(ish) with a much cheaper compressor made for regular guitar. The thing is 'adequate-ish' really pisses me off when I'm in a particular mood and I want a real bass compressor of high quality instead.

I just ordered the TCE Spectracomp though. It's the one reasonably priced compressor I haven't tried yet. I put it off because it's a 1-knob device that requires plugging in a USB cable and using a program on phone/computer to tweak beyond what the knob does.

We'll it does have the obvious checking and buckle rash from his local gigging days in the 70s and part of the fading is probably due to the Kentucky humidity. He's very proud of owning a Vintage Fender but the headstock only says "Fend----------------er"

>>
>>70009043
only if you compress the whole fucking mix so it sounds like my dick knocking on your door
>>
>>70008767
I have a silly little Kingston (subsidiary of teisco) and the neck pocket is definitely too small on that thing for a fender neck. I know that might vary for your teisco and mustang necks, but just my input.
>>
>>70001203
this finish looks really nice in person. It's like a nice Violin finish.
>>
>>70008767
I doubt the teisco will be 24" scale. You would have to redrill the bridge posts (if the neck will even fit in the neck pocket.
>>
>>70009220
dang. is it similar to the teisco tulips?
>>
>>70009043

Not at all. They're even a bit underrated by guitarists (not bassists). Compression used in the right way can transform an okay guitar tone to a nice satisfying one that sits better in a full band mix.

It's tough to get a feel for them based on youtube reviews and demos though. Just by virtue of recording the audio and compressing the file, there is some compression of the audio happening there as well as the video (both size compression and audio wave compression). So what you're hearing on those demos is more compression on top of an already compressed sound, which is why you get the inevitable flood of comments saying it sounds pretty much the same or the sound with compression on sounds too squashed.

How much would I have to spend on a decent acoustic? Been playing electric for about 2 years now, would like to mess around on an acoustic, been looking at something like a Fender CD60 but I'm pretty clueless.
>>
>>70010373
At least $500 but closer to $1000 is better. Look for guitars made entirely of solid wood. Larrivee and Eastman are good. That's if you want a "decent" acoustic.

Anything less will just be a beater that's passable. Under $500 I would look into vintage Japanese Acoustics from Yamaha,Alvarez-Yairi etc.

Do you want to get better at guitar or learn theory (or both)?
There are plenty of resources for learning theory on your own. You can check out a free online course in music theory and supplement it with musictheoryddddoooottttnet. That's how I got started.
As far as guitar teachers go, I don't know man. I was able to squeeze in a music minor during my undergraduate. Got to play in a few ensembles, took lessons with proper guitar professors, very much worth it. Any chance you could take lessons with a music student/graduate in your area?

Gotcha, I've been there before. Music theory and guitar lessons may help with that.
I played for about five years before college, all of which was self taught. Looking back, I was pretty shit when I started my music minor. My improvisation was meh, my repetoire was small, and I had no experience playing with others. Music lessons taught me more about improvisation, increased my repetoire, and forced me to play with people instead of playing in my bedroom. I can gig comfortably now, so it was definitely worth the time.

Don't worry, all the underaged high school redditors will be back in school on Monday and /gg/ will still be exactly the same but slower.

>JM
>HRD

miniaturized unserviceable components. you pop a cap or have some other component fail and you lose the pedal because it can't be repaired

holy fuck my ears.

Please for the love of God if you're going to to present music to the public through a digital medium, use a proper recorder rather than a shitty flip phone. If you've invested $1000's into your music shit you can go out and get a cheap zoom.

Honestly, I think you guys don't sound that bad it's just that I can't hear shit. I liked the bit after the breakdown, (which I did not like). you got a sound cloud?

Your energy is good. The bassist looks like he's hamming it up tho. The singer is creepin me out but i can deal with it.
