>>
Been fooling around with B standard on my acoustic and loving the sound. Makes me want to get a baritone guitar because even with a large body and the .13s I usually use (I usually keep it in D standard), B is kinda pushing it. Anyone else in love with low tunings on acoustic?

>guitar/bass?
Guitar

>good?
Hugely subjective, but I have a pretty well-rounded technical skill set on guitar (everything from 2+ finger tapping to six-string sweep arpeggios and beyond), I can improvise over complex jazz changes and create an "outside" sound without it going totally atonal, I have a pretty solid understanding of jazz harmony, etc.

>in a band?
Yep.

>good music?
Super subjective again, but I'm happy with what we've been doing. We've gotten a really good reception at the last few shows we played. (One guy came up to me after our set last night and said we reminded him of The Mars Volta, and the show before that a guitar player from another band said that we were the tightest live band he had ever seen.) Our music is a mix of post-hardcore, art rock, and '70s prog.

Thoughts on the thr10?
>>
>>69774056
Fine overdrive, but kind of boring. For the price I prefer a more unique sounding overdrive (with interesting clipping in the high end for example)

Buy the Mooer Hustle Drive if you want an OCD, it's a clone at a much cheaper price.
>>
>>69774056
Yeah, gotta agree with >>69774267, the OCD sounds kind of flat compared to some of the cheaper offerings from boutique pedal builders/modifiers. Some of my favorite versatile ODs are the Suhr Riot (similar price to the OCD), the EXH Soul Food (I have the JHS mod version in my board), and the Bearfoot Honey Bee (buy used if you can).
>>
>>69774267
I'm searching overdrives with a tube sound, like the OCD or the Tube Screamer, can you suggest some OD?

Catalinbread has a lot of great options. I like the Dirty Little Secret and the 5f6. A used one shouldn't be too much more than an OCD.

My favorite overdrive for that tube sound is a Lovepedal High Power Tweed Twin or a Les Lius but they're kind of hard to find.

>>69774638
get a tube amp, like an old fender or something 100-200watts preferably. people misprice relatively small looking tube amps majorly online. a stack isnt worth it and any hybrid is going to annoy the fuck out of you. the mileage comes in playing loud though. if you can record loud and mix quiet then youll be the most satisfied even with just anything. and, honestly, if you spend generously and get a twin turbo or something like that the gain on the amp should suffice and then all you really need is something like a cathedral reverb box which youll want for everything and will satisfy you for the rest of your life. dont know much about guitars, but single coils are never good unless you're looking into pedals and more psychedelic, nuanced playing. the other dude telling you to get a jackson has the right idea. metal guitars are good for noise rock. you can probably get that or an ibinez or (imo) an epiphone les paul for less than $300.
>>
>>69774631
I am considering that how should I go about it senpai?
>>
>>69774638
My band does like, progressive post-hardcore and some noise. I play a Strat into an Egnater Rebel 20, my main pedals are an OD, wah, and delay. I also use an analog chorus for a nice lead boost.
>>

A) Guitar
b) I consider myself a wellrounded guitarist with a good understanding of theory and a pretty good technical ability (im not a shredfag tho, and probably never will be)
C) Been playing in alot of bands but my current started two years ago and its going great.
D) The Music we write in my current band is the stuff im most proud of to have written, its pretty out there krautrock/ post punk that is super super fun to play. I also used to have a drone metal band that made really great jams.
>>
>>69773551

Quoting from the Hail the Sun AMA

"Aric plays a Les Paul, mostly, and his amp setup is just a Marshall JCM into an Orange 2x12. I'm currently playing a First Act Volkswagen GarageMaster through a used Randall tube head into an Orange 2x12 of my own. Honestly, I've always gotten my sound out of some seriously inexpensive gear. I used to play a Vox Valvetronix combo just because it fit in my dorm room and I could get a lot of different tones out of it"

"My pedalboard currently consists of a polytune and an empress tape delay"

" i use a sansamp and a hoof Fuzz pedal"

Hope this helps

It's not. It the epitome of the american "make it as cheap and as fast as possible and with the least amount of waste". The result is an uncomfortable ugly block of wood that's only popular because it was all poor musicians could afford. Such a piece of junk, he designed the strat. Which was such a good design every manufacturer makes a copy.

I used to use daddarios like 10 years ago, i found they rusted quickly. Tried almost every other brand. DRs are the best. That being said, most of the shops within a 20 min ride closed so I've been ordering Ernie Ball online because they're less expensive. I don't record and am not in a band, so it's not super important right now.

Also, I got a set of daddarios as a gift recently and when i used them they lasted pretty long. Then i read someshit about how a Chinese company was counterfeiting them in the past somehow. Might have been the reason i had bad experiences.

I'm pretty divided whether I should go with Scarlett 2i2 or Roland ua-22 duo-capture ex, for using with Windows and guitar rig most of the times. Prices are the same and I don't think I "need" de midi input since if I ever use midi devices I'll just use a midi do USB cable.

just look up a three way diagram (google will give you 9 million results for this), then you'll have to split the black wires from the humbuckers and add them to the center points of the switch as well so the middle positions become redundant. also i hope you have a solder vacuum

I normal use the Overdrive with the DS-2 or the Big muff, but never both at the same time

My favorite is the Big Muff only by a little bit, I think the DOD 250 has a wonderful grit to it but there's nothing like the smooth sustain of the muff

The DS-2 is probably most versatile, due to the turbo mode and the fact you can make a pretty interesting sound rolling the distortion down a little bit

At the moment I am playing a lot of dad rock atm, but only because it's a pretty easy start into song writing, in time I'd like to play something more grunge or noise rock

A voicebox. Make it sound like you're talking in farts.

You won't get DFA sounds from fuzzes. JFK overdrives his two solid-state amps (Acoustic something and Peavey Mark III) to ridiculous levels and uses a Chorus with stereo out on both + a wah.

Been playing acoustic for a few months and bought an Epiphone SG recently. I've heard that thicker string gauges lead to a heavier sound. Is there any truth to this? If so, what thickness do you guys recommend for stoner/doom metal?

Need advice on improving my sm7b quality. So far this is just me recording it connected to a gain amplifier, which is connected to a focusrite solo gen 2, connected to my computer.

Added Normalizer and Equalizer before saving

>>69783039
I wouldn't call it heavier, it's usually just thicker and bassier.
>>
>>69783039

Depends on what tuning you want.

i.e. Melvins play in Drop D, Sleep in C Standard, Elec Wizard B Standard and Boris Bb Standard
>>
>>69783152
haha, the absolute madmen, who needs that much heavyness?
>>
>>69783152
I was thinking B standard as I'm a huge Wizard fan.
>>
>>69783177
I would go exl157's if you like it tight or exl158's if you want some slack all the way at b standard.
>>
Out of curiosity are any of you competent when it comes to wiring guitars?
>>
>>69783174

The japanese and british do, apparently haha.

>>69783177

You'll need baritone strings for that, something like .063's or .065's should work for B, intonating that is gonna be a pain in the ass and you might need to cut deeper grooves into the nut.
>>
>>69783039
eh

eh

really just 'eh'. a lot of people claim they do, but there are so many more things that have much greater effect on your tone than string gauge.

string gauge primarily will effect how the guitar a) feels to play and b) handles tunings. thicker strings have more tension, and therefore better suited to drop tunings than regular strings.

if you continue to play acoustic, you might want to consider using the same or similar gauge of strings on your electric as your acoustic. some people like having similar gauge strings so they can get really comfortable with one feel, whereas other people liking using different gauges for differnt guitars (ie thinner on a strat, thicker on an LP, etc) to suit their style of playing.

i'd recommend you just get 10-46 gauge and see how those feel. if you would prefer the strings be a bit stiffer, then go to 11s or 12s. if youd like to be able to flex them easier, go down to 9-46s or even 9-42s

Thanks a ton guys

>>69783236
Also thanks for the explanation, didn't really plan on continuing to play acoustic, I was just playing it until I had enough cash to get an electric and an amp.
>>
>>69783290

Also of note (for any tuning): if you play a lot of leads thinner strings are usually better for bending and vibrato.

Ended up bringing home the Roland quad instead of the 2i4, based on the talk I had with the guys at the shop. Price was exactly the same.
I can always exchange it in the next few days.

No, that's just what happens when you start to play an instrument. It rapes your hands for a few months, also don't start out on a left handed bass. You'll regret it.

>he doesn't use appchan

Make sure not to bend your wrist too much, it should be lined up to your hand, which should be flat. Put your thumb right on the back of the neck.
>>
>>69783924
I think you should put your thumb more behind your middle finger going straight on against the neck rather than sideways like you have it going there.
>>
>>69783903
raise your strap up more and your wrist and hands will line up more comfortably. you'll look like a dork with a high strap, but it is comfortable.

ive been playing constantly since halloween mang

im an edgy contrarian so i enjoy being able to complain about it

this feels a lot more comfortable actually, speed seems much slower though

a) guitar
b) I started 6 months ago and I'm shit at it, also don't have the time to learn and practice as much as I'd like to
c) I have no friends, also see b)
d) there are songs in my head that I want to make a reality, but I don't know how many years it will take me before I can do that

>>69784140
you're practicing at home, no one can see you. just lower it if you play out
>>
>>69784120
>speed seems much slower though

You'll need to do speed exercises in that position, again, muscle memory.

You can shift your thumb around when playing stuff on the upper register (i.e. D-G string, past fret 12) but remember to always default back to that position.

Also make sure your strap isn't too low, somewhere around your groin/stomach area is fine.
>>
>>69784050
>also don't start out on a left handed bass.

huh what

why
>>
>>69784200
imagine trying to find a needle in a hay stack, now imagine that needle needs to be made of gold. gratz, you now know what its like to shop for a left handed bass

Who's the 6 year old here? And you're assuming the 2nd one you get will be perfect, if you find the perfect bass in 2 attempts you gotta have pretty low standards. I already assumed you did since you think ordering online is a great solution.
