Basically the problem with /mu/ is that they CANNOT accept that there are people that genuinely like Oasis. Enough so, in fact, that Oasis now has it's own general. Oasis' music isn't as complicated as some, no one denies that. But it is catchy, optimistic, uplifting, anthemic and more.

Oasis defined a generation, and even today they make the life of working class poorfags suck less. Their music isn't that bad. They have their less desirable albums for sure, but they also have some genuinely good tunes.

>>
People like Oasis for the energy, the image, the general feeling. Not the deep paintings created by the soundwaves or the suicidal tendencies it instills in it's listeners. They don't use vacuum cleaners as instruments, they are the OPPOSITE of pretentious, they are the OPPOSITE of poseurs and they are just all around a bunch of swell lads

To be fair, Liam's vocal range, power, and overall singing ability have been on a slow decline since 1993. There were points were on the first two tours, he had blown his voice out from wear and tear for a night or tour, but it was on the back half of the Be Here Now tour that he majorly fucked it up and developed vocal nodules, but continued the touring and heavy drinking/drug use anyway. When the tour ended, the damage turned out to be permanent. His studio recordings and live vocals from 2000 onward are noticeably more gravely sounding, deeper, and strained. This was it became obvious he couldn't hold notes as long as he used to and couldn't even sing certain songs he was able to just a year prior. From that point on, every tour, he would get worse and worse as it dragged on, recover slightly after, record a new album and tour, and make much worse than before. Vicious cycle.
>>
Nice to see some Oasis love around here. I only like their first two albums (and the first 10 times more) - but these are actually good.
>>
>>69711261
>He kinda always sounded like kermit when singing slide away live.
Knebworth isn't a great example. His voice was REALLY nasally there and probably one of his worst vocals of the whole tour.

Oasis emotional music for the most lowest common denominator boring people.

There used to be this great interview of Noel and The Chemical Brothers on an American radio station around the time "Setting Sun" came out where Noel is drunk and goes off about drunk driving:

>Noel: "What recording artists have recorded a song against drunk driving? I'll tell you one who hasn't and his name's Bonehead. He's the biggest drunk driver in England. Drink and drive, it's top! You're not even arguing are you, cos you know it's boss. You lot in that control room have been pissed out yer head driving all over the place!

>Some kid phones in with a question for the Chemical Brothers....

>Noel cuts in: "Have you got a driving licence? Do you drink? My first record was called 'Pissed up at the wheel'"

>Another kid phones in, "I was wondering what you guys do in your free time?"

>Noel: "Drunk driving mate. Get lushed up and get out in the Mustang and just trash people. Also mountain bike drunk driving. Drunk riding!"

>Some girl phones in with a question for Noel, "what's your ultimate goal in life?"

Didn't say it's not experimental, said it's not interesting. Learn to read, you daft nigger. Clumsily mixing psychedelia with Noel's favorite 5 chords didn't really yield anything exciting, which is why SOTSOG is the worst performing Oasis album, save for that abortion that was Dig Out Your Soul. This is the reason they returned to same old stuff two years later. They are good at writing cookie cutter feel-good anthems, not at musical innovation.

Of course I can. There are artists who bring something new to the world and there are ones who slightly tweak standard pop formulas and make big bucks on people with uncomplicated tastes. Doesn't mean the latter are not worth listening to, but there is certainly no doubt who's actually unique and important and overall "better".

Indeed, and the ability to distinguish worthy innovative things comes with experience. The more music you acquaint yourself with, the more reference points you have, the better your judgement. This is the reason why professional critics largely agree on historical importance of works, while often disagreeing on subjective perception. Not only in music but in all spheres of art. And that importance absolutely translates into "betterness", simply because these works move us forward toward new horizons, opening new ways of expression and finer layers of perception, whereas your everyday stuff, no matter how well crafted will undoubtedly fade with time, be forgotten and replaced, leaving no discernible trace in history.

As if, during Oasis' formative years it was impossible for young working class lads to find work. The same can be said today to a lesser extent.

Coke is the rich man's drugs m8, weed and shitty amphs maybe.

Anyway, I don't think Oasis ever or even set out to represent anyone. They got lucky and made it big time, writing songs about living it large. Their sound was lound and exciting to young people, not necessarily resonating. Especially during the 90s when popular UK music was dominated by dancing boy/girl bands who weren't even writing their own stuff.
>>
>>69718959
They represented us mate, the people.

They're alright really anyway, but their image is pretty contrived nonetheless

tension mounted between the Gallaghers when Liam backed out of Oasis' MTV Unplugged set minutes before it was due to start. Noel was forced to fill in at the last minute. Liam claimed to have been struck down with a "sore throat" and that he doesn't like performing acoustically, though Noel claims he was hungover.[17] Noel was further angered when Liam proceeded to heckle him from the balcony while the band performed

Coming down off the nova somewhere near the boiled egg that is the Royal Albert Hall, we watch Paul's sun crossed with John's star and hold ice cream hands. Someone slipped on a cassette as the one you wanted left with someone else but somehow it was cool because as the music filled the shadows, you heard a sound that was a million miles away from fakery and a step away from your heart.

Just like it always did, this sound puts the swagger back into your step, the rush into your blood, but somehow, and I don't know how, they had become deeper, wider, soulful, better at their craft, inspired by so many things like a world that is tilting who knows where and the applause they always knew was theirs but waited so impatiently to receive. Words cut you from all angles, backed up by a monumental sound that rises high, high and high to crash against your rocks and then changes, majestically and magically to soothe the wounds inside.

As you are dragged inside on this trip abandon, you hear a council estate singing its heart out, you hear the clink of loose change that is never enough to buy what you need, boredom and poverty, hours spent with a burnt out guitar, dirty pubs and cracked up pavements, violence and Iove, all rolled into one, and now all this.

At the end you flip over and start again because now you are not isolated. They have gone to work so that you can go home. High above the day turns pink and you feel your feet lift above the ground as new roads open up in front of you. In this town the jury is always rigged but the people know. They always know the truth. Believe. Belief. Beyond. Their morning glory.
