For fast alternate picking it's easy, you just have to know what kind of stroke to end on but for something that is more dynamic with different notes and time signatures it's pretty cool to practice with a metronome

most budget interfaces like the scarlett 2i2 accept direct from the bass, but higher end interfaces require certain levels that you can get from a DI box since it has a high impedance out
For most active basses the output is pretty high, so if you're looking at an interface make sure it has a high impedance input

Any gear queers know of inexpensive ways of getting a good clean input into your PC from your guitar?

I've a DEAN laying around that I tried playing with Rocksmith out of boredom, but I realized the signal was too dirty to actual enjoy it.

This would solve multiple issues I have if I could figure out how to clean up the signal into my PC.

I'm assuming you're talking about C major's V, since A major has a v.
If you're using a V7 in C major, that gives us G, the root, B, the major third, D the fifth, and F, the minor seventh. Which are all part of C major, meaning you won't have much clash going on

Now if you're substituting A's v chord, E minor, to a V7 chord, so E major 7, you've got E, the root, C# the major third, B the fifth and D the major seventh. So playing A harmonic minor over it, you'd raise the G to a G# that may sound nicer over the C#, still have a C that would completely clash with the C#.

Of course it also comes down to how you approach tension and release and how you phrase it.

Yes. It might not sound very good but yes. The main issue with running a bass to a guitar amp is potential damage to guitar cab speakers, which isn't an issue with a PA.
