Go play one and decide for yourself. If you don't know how to play learn a chord or two on YouTube and go strum that a couple times. Buy whichever one feels more comfortable in your hands.
>>
>>69661936
it's not really the case of one thing being better than the other - have you played lps and starts before? Which is more comfortable to play for you? Which sound do you like best? Personally I have an 2007 MiM Strat (bought in 2007) and I love it. Also make sure to show your instrument to a luthier right after you buy it.

110 for D, will work fine for C too if you got a 35" bass
otherwise go at least 115 for the thickest. No idea about the rest, you will have to go custom anyway, checfk up circle K strings. No regular set has shit for tuning up.

I really don't get why people are hating on this so much. $20 for 3 pedals for a month is pretty cheap. You can't tell how a pedal will sound through your Tele and Vox amp by watching some guy on youtube play one through his LP and solid state Marshall. Might as well spend $20 testing it out before you spend $200 on something that you don't like.

I currently have a SRX360 which i love but im thinking of getting a 5 string in the near future.
>>
>>69666017
I don't know that specific model but I know that series from Ibanez. The nordstrand pickups are fucking awesome. The pre-amp/EQ is a bit of a letdown though, get a model that you can play in passive mode as well. These mono rail bridges they use had issues in the past and it's not certain whether they completely fixed that. The metal was too soft.
I'd see if you cand find a model on the premium series with the same pickups but a different bridge (to be safe). Besides that, great basses if you like the string spacing.
>>
>>69666017
>>69666105
SR755 for example, different pickup configuration (see if you like it) but still nice Nordstrand pickups, a different bridge and EQ bypass with passive tone control.

>>
>>69666017

And I fucked up, they're just Nordstrand licensed pickups on the SR 755. Check on Talkbass if the issue with the mono rail bridge still exists. The Nordstrand big single (actual Nordstrand) pickups are awesome and the rest of the bass should be great as well.

>I originally meant what are some things I should know about setting them up?

>>
>>69666259
Any one will work fine. I use Pro Tools, and I'd recommend it over Logic (the two DAWs I've used). I could get more comfortable with it quicker, and it feels nicer for editing waveforms which is a pretty big part of recording DI guitar. Cubase and Reaper are also popular choices, but I haven't tried them

he said for amp sims...

Anyway, i use both logic and pro tools, depends what i'm doing. Had to use disableton a few times once. don't really like it, it's okay for some things, really intuitive for others, outright shit at most.

Reaper is good but not my choice
Cubase is clunky as hell.

To be honest, the two best are logic and pro tools. Pro tools is a little finicky at times, however i love the dual panning on stereo tracks, logic is a quicker interface, though that may just be because i've been using it since 2009. Tools only since 2013
>>69666259
Logic for amp sims, they're the best stock sims in a DAW, however they're pretty meh anyway, if you want a quick tone without too much meddling just get yourself CLA guitars.

yes. I love my Gibson SG standard but every single one i have played with the exception of mine i haven't enjoyed at all. Weird, i just hate the feel of them. Yet my own 2001 model plays beautifully. When i worked in a guitar store i tried every SG there (around 30) and couldn't get on with them. I've only played a couple of Les Pauls that i enjoyed

>>69666569
it was pretty obvious he meant that, otherwise it wouldn't matter which DAW he used as much if he wasn't going to use stock amp sims...

None of the stock amp sims in any DAWs sound great to be honest, logics are the best of a bad bunch. I don't use sims anyway

This is actually good advice, anon. Rather than go as cheap as possible if you're not sure you want to commit to playing an instrument, just rent one for a month or two. It's not very expensive to do so. You will also learn a lot about what you would like to have in a new guitar while you're fiddling with the rental. I honestly wish I had done this when I first started. It would have saved me money. Instead I was a dumbass, rolled in to music store knowing nothing, picked the one that was cheap and looked neat, wanted a totally different type of guitar within three months.
>>
been playing for about 6 months now, i know a buch of licks and a few chords now, but i don´t know how to practice most efficiently, even though i spend a lot of time playing. Any advice?

sorry bro, app fucked up and deleted post

anyway I'm getting really into math rock, emo and stuff like these lately, I've always played folk and post-rock on my acoustic (fender too) and wanted to replace my old guitar, literally garbage

soon I'll start an emo band with a friend, gonna be fun

the guitar looks good anyway, just need to be comfortable a little bit more with it, I honestly like the fretboards and of course love the shape

I got a cool book called "guitar aerobics" By Troy Nelson that has all kinds of licks that you can learn to improve skill. You play this licks, with a metronome, on rhythm, and learn a new one everyday, bumping up the tempo slowly until you hit the higher speeds (book suggests most licks at 40-120 bpm).

It really helped me learn new skills, like sweep picking, bends, and alternate picking. It also has the sheet music for each lick, which is easy to learn, and explains the theory behind each lick and how best to play it. give it a shot!
>>
>>69666771
jesus... chill the fuck out. why the aggression? Nobody has said anything against you.

>What daw do you guys recommend for amp sims?

I would expect that 90% of people would read that as he wants to know which daw has good amp sims. anyway, like i said, if he wasn't going to use stock amp sims and had 3rd party plug-ins then it wouldn't matter which DAW was "good for amp sims" since he would just use them within his favourite DAW.

Well? He clearly doesn't know much about the subject if he's asking which DAW to start with.

Chill the fuck out and stop being a douche out of nowhere. Nobody was being abusive to you so don't just get all riled up and act a right cunt for no reason

>>69666859
Excellent advice. I borrowed a half decent guitar from a family friend when i first wanted to learn.
>rather than go as cheap as possible
You shouldn't ever go as cheap as possible anyway, so that's also a good point. I know a guy who was saving up for an ESP, really really wanted one, he was only £100 away but said "i can't be arsed to wait" and got a low end epiphone that he ended up detesting after the "new guitar" feeling had washed of.

>>69666892
No worries dude, black tele's look great for emo stuff. Though will the pickups be hot enough? you could always get them taken out and have something like a stacked humbucker put in or some wood removed. Just unsure the tele has the grunt you would need.

sorry forgot to reply to you, missed you out.

The way i progressed was to learn a song that was slightly out of my skill level. Take it step by step and work your way through it. I also found that if there are any specific techniques that you are interested in, instead of simply learning it in a boring way, get the basics of that technique down through a video or something, then find a song you like that uses that technique. Try to master it within that song, that way you're going to enjoy it far more than just wanking a scale over and over.

guitar pro 5 is a good way to help too. Set it to a slower playback and work your way up

What are some guitars that have under pickguard routing/wiring? Really only worried about pickups. Looking for an easy first build where i dont have to do much precision work aside from fretting and bridge placement and neck pocket and whatever. Its easier to replace a mis cut pickguard than replace mis cut wood. Im going to try to route so a pickguard isnt needed, but if i screw it up ill just be able to buy a common pickguard thats uncut and throw it on there.

I can think of
Strat
Tele
SG

Let me tell you, it will probably be lol worthy. I have some completely ignorant ideas i need to get out of my system.

Im honestly thinking sg(especially because itll give me a real chance to practice inlays, doing those trapezoids), and instead of bolt on making it neck through and instead of the angled headstock using string trees. I may just do bolt on so i can replace the neck easier when i mess it up. But its going to play like trash anyways so i may just try for experience anyways.
