>>
>>69650374

The stuff they make themselves (aka the japanese/prestige stuff) is fantastic quality

the stuff they have cort make for them in indonesia is below average quality wise for the money. They certainly feel cheaper than the equivalent cost korean prs/schecter/reverend or mexican fender/jackson/charvel stuff.

not even gonna comment on gio
>>
>>69650510
Isn't that all CNC? Gibson still makes those too.
>>
>>69650557

They have really versatile pickups for rock/pop music (duncan JB/59 set which are probably the most common aftermarket humbuckers you can buy). definitely not shredlord pickups.

The necks are basically the same as the fender deluxe strat necks with rolled fret edges and a compound radius fretboard. Theyre super comfy to play
>>
>>69650555
Try it out. If you get one thats built right maybe youll have to change some parts out at some point but it should work. Check used too, i bought the sr505 bass for less than half the cost of new and the only thing wrong was a slight chip in a hard to see spot. BFD for the best and cheapest bass i ever owned.
>>
>>69650644
it's an accoustic, not bass, on the cheaper end ($300 msrp)
>>
>>69650581

Probably, but that doesn't mean it isn't still a bitch to do. It takes a lot more work to get a CNC to mill that properly over simpler normal designs
>>
>>69650639
How do they compare to the HSS for shredding?
>>
>>69650679
I was just using the bass as an example, which i got for under $300. I dont know much about their acostics, but this kne in particular has great reviews. Pic related
>>
>>69650699

Definitely better than the standard fender HSS pickup set for 80s metal stuff. Youre only going to be on the bridge pickup for that kind of thing anyway.

>>
>>69650463
forgot to mention I'd probably also get a Keely 4 knob compressor as well
>>
>>69650837

They're pretty much the same guitar other than the scratchplate/electronics routing. Also, im pretty sure you can get the san dimas with a maple board and the so cal with a rosewood if you depending on the color choice.
>>
>>69650896

*rosewood depending

also, make sure you order the right bridge configuration. You can get them with either a fixed bridge or a floyd rose trem. Floyds are great for that shreddy stuff but theyre a real bitch to change strings on.
>>
>>69650935

Theyre built by fender corporation in their mexican factory that produces the standard/deluxe line. Theyre solid quality for the price.

Does the tremelo system work the same with a fixed bridge compared to a FR? Like, are all the same whammy bar tricks possible?
>>
>>69651035
active pickups are a meme. You're better off getting high gain from the amp. Go for a medium output pickup set for versatility. If you want to play heavy music buy a heavy amp

>>
>>69651458

There is no "standard" or vintage style tremelo available on either of those models: the fixed bridge is like a les paul bridge with no tremelo. The floyd rose is WAAAY better than a regular strat trem when it comes to staying in tune. If you want a tremelo, the floyd is hard to beat performance wise-its just more effort when it comes time to change strings.

If you plan on using a trem at all, go floyd all the way. If you arent though, buy the fixed bridge.

>>69651458

Function wise, the floyd locks the string down mechanically at the nut and at the bridge. when you install a string, you basically use an allen key to tighten a small vice around the string to keep it in place, and cut off the ball end. In a normal strat style trem, the string is held in the bridge by the tension of the string alone forcing the ball end against a slot in the bridge.

I already made a thread but here it goes.
I've been trying to get my first electric guitar (and amp). I currently own a nylon string guitar.
For someone aiming to play mainly blues. Is there any guitar you suggest for a beginner? I don't have access to a store to try out guitars and where i live craigslist is very limited. I've seem some squier classic vibes and MiM fenders pop here and there but i have no idea what would be ideal for my budget (around 700€).

I will drill out a couple spots use some hard maple dowel rods to renforce the joint. I'll glue it all up, and clamp it heavily with some cauls I'll custom fit on the bandsaw and spindle sander. Once its all glued back, I will sand the joint a little, and then fill the grain with a watered down mix of timbermate. Then sand it up to ~3000 grit wet paper.

I'll finish it with just Danish Oil in that spot because I don't want to mess with lacquer and I dont mind if its a brown spot on my neck. Gives it character.

If I was going to be a stickler on the finish I would use a deep cherry stain and use a spray on clear coat nitro.

Pretty much. As long as the truss rod doesnt snap, les paul headstocks are a very easy fix. They pretty much always break in the same spot because the design sucks from an engineering standpoint.

TO PLANT OR NOT TO PLANT, /GG/?

I like to rest the heel of my palm (like that little bony bit on the heel of your palm opposite your thumb) on the body of the guitar just above the low E string for flatpicking. for fingerpicking ill either plant the pinky or not plant at all

whats best?

vintage modified above standard, any day of the week.

bullet/affinity/standard squiers are trash. you'd be better off with a beat TO SHIT mim (provided the electronics mostly work and the neck is straight, etc) than a basic squier. the vintage modified and classic vibe are actually respectable instruments though, you could easily gig with one if you wanted

Just bought a Squire Affinity Tele and the quality is good. There are some sharp frets but it's not really that bad. The only major gripe was that the neck pickup's volume is lower than the other pickups.

The pickup just needs to be raised but since it's under warranty I'll just ask Fender to take a look at it since it would be some other issue that I don't know about.

But my Classic Vibe 50s Strat feels incredible to play with great fucking pickups. The Vintage Modified Classic Vibe and regular Classic Vibe Teles look as though they are the same in excellent quality.

Definitely worth spending 400 for a guitar that a lot of people consider even, if not better than the more expensive American line. That being said I love my Squire Tele as all around
guitar in addition to my CV Strat.

Chill the fuck out little guitarlet. Learn to take care of your own gear. First things first, always be as careful as possible when taking screwdrivers and other sharp objects to your guitar. USE THE RIGHT TOOLS.

Now, the reason your bridge is raising is simply a matter of the mechanics of the tremolo. When there is more tension than the tremclaw is comfortably counteracting, the bridge will begin to float. Make sure you are in standard tuning. All you have to do is remove the backplate and tighten the two large screws attaching the trem to the body of the guitar. Do it a little bit, tune the guitar and then check the level of float. Repeat until the bridge is at desired level. I keep mine "decked" and I also use 5 springs so it goes out of tune less during double stops.

It's that simple. No need to go crazy. Just ask in here, Google, YouTube, and be patient. You don't need a tech or a guitar shop to set up something so easy.

Now off you go silly goose.

>Why do people hate EMG pickups?

Obtuse and open-ended question. For all the EMG haters, there are hordes of people who swear by them and won't play anything else. It goes without saying there are pros and cons to each set up, and some of the pros for EMGs are the fact they are extremely quiet, high fidelity and the tightest high-gain pickups you will find on the market.

I've heard some crushing metal tones from EMG pickups (Sylosis, Killswitch Engage), but that's all I've heard from them. The things "anti EMG" people usually have against them involve the lack of versatility, the compression and the battery. I played EMGs for a decade of my guitar playing life and after switching to passives then back to actives you can HEAR the preamp permeate every single thing you do on the guitar and it starts to grate. It gives me a sickly nauseous feeling.

The grit and character you get from a good set of PAFs or some Bare Knuckles or something kicks the shit out of battery powered ultra high fidelity metal man pickups for what I want out of a guitar. I'm also a stubborn traditionalist and no one I hold in high regard bar a few modern metal people are playing actives.

As a drummer, I always thought writing in a ton of scales and transitions was left to math metal players.

Until my guitarist and bassist began talking about swapping scales halfway through measures to keep the musicality fresh and unique.

I may be able to count better and hit my instrument harder, but you string fuckos need a lot of music theory to just work, and I appreciate it.

Strats and Teles are a good starting point for blues. You may also want to look in to Les Pauls. A studio would be a good first guitar.

I would avoid MiM and save up for a real American. You'll be glad you did. Fenders hold resale value and you won't have a problem reselling it if you don't stick with guitar. Don't compromise on your first axe.

They're what I consider "the cookie cutter" kind of metal tones. It's a good tone, but it's also really boring and there's some more interesting ways to get a heavy ass sound.

>>69658074
Your guitarists sound like exceptions to the rule, a lot of guitarists stick to pentatonics or simple modes. And there's a lot of mental gymnastics you can add to drumming that makes up for the lack of any scales of sort.

the huge white pickguard and white pickups ruin it, it also has the same overly glossy finish that makes it look more like a toy instead of furniture

you got it so right i smiled

i didn't know that this is obvious from the setup though, is that the only thing people do with this?
>>
>>69659855
i hate those fretboard markings
>>
>>69660043
yeah i'm not overly keen on them either. he loved it at the time, is considering selling it now though. It has better pickups, a better bridge and straploks now
>>
>>69660030
There's not much you can do with only two active pickups in series wired to Neck, Bridge or Both, and since you've said you've got no use for a single coil, and you're not wiring any extra tonal options, I'm assuming metal since it's pretty much always the same textures.

>>69660043
sharktooth inlays are even worse in real life, I think I might even prefer gibson's huge blocky ass inlays to it.
>>
>>69659963
It doesn't have to be oil, a thin satin/matte finish does the same.
>>69659986
That looks gorgeous.

so which distortion pedal will bring me closer to the RTL-era metallica sound with a shitty ss amp? ajfa is fine too

sure why not, only thing is the Gibson models have "Fretless wonder" frets which suck for bending.

Do you have one?
>>
>>69656810
No. Rub graphite in the nut slots. Tuning machines, no matter how cheap, should not slip. Not unless they're loose in the headstock (tighten the bolts on the top and screws on the back).

What Les Paul is that? I like the finish

The "Wizard" neck is just a standard shredder guitar profile. 18ish fretboard radius (really flat for an electric guitar), jumbo frets, a very wide freboard, and a very thin neck from back to front.

Its awesome for people with big hands, but the jackson/schecter style necks are much more comfortable for medium or bitch hands.

See

90% of the time, tuning instability in a guitar comes from a sticky or improperly cut nut (unless its a trem guitar at least).

same reason they make guitars without bridge pickups. A ton of metal/hard rock players tend not to use them ever.

Nothing is more irritating that trying to figure out why your tone is shit for the first 10 minutes of a gig before realizing you bumped your tone nob down to 5

Anyone here have any experience with Fernandes guitars? Are they any good?

>Nothing is more irritating that trying to figure out why your tone is shit for the first 10 minutes of a gig before realizing you bumped your tone nob down to 5

This is why i don't like knobs that have no position indicators on them. I like to be able to see where they are set just by glancing at them. Single line on the top of the knob works best for this purpose.

>>69660594

Theyre shitty copies. If youre buying a new guitar less than about 1k, stick to major brands.
>>
>>69660474
The epiphones are fine they have typical medium jumbo frets.

Really depends if you want a Les Paul Sounds or Strat sound, the Epiphone is probably a step above in quality desu

Either one is a good choice. I would go with the Les Paul for Blues Rock ( for the thick lead sounds like BB King and Santana) The strat would be good if you want to sound more like Stevie Ray Vaughn.
