I am.
Now, don't get me wrong, I legitimately rate bashment and all that soundsystem-based dub where the culture comes from. But the thing is, that everything about them is built on MCing, simply because it's been that way forever and the music and culture don't really allow it to change or the selectors to actually mix it.

This ties into the core issue I have with UK club music in general. You can mix grime just fine, dubstep, garridge, even jungle. And yet due to the presence of the MCs people don't. You have all this pull-up, rewind nonsense which exists purely because of the MCs and because soundsystems did it too. It doesn't matter in "soundsystem music", because the culture firmly doesn't support the idea of mixing anyway. But in this club music it breaks the flow of the sets up and ruins them.
This "banger culture", basically, is detrimental to the music, because how long will it take the producers to realize that what they wanna do is not make good tunes, but simply tunes that get pull-ups and rewinds constantly? And tunes like that is what we call bait.
Bait tunes aren't inherently bad, but they need to have a lot of substance, because you will hear them played constantly and repeatedly. And the sad truth is that most producers are not capable of making tunes good enough.

But them again what the hell do I know, I'm just a German techno autist who likes reggae.

Sure, excluding people goes against one of the core ideas of club music, but why do we need to force minority groups into everything?

Why can't someone just be a homo and make music instead of being a homo making music?

Meh, I think you've been misled by poor DJs. A good grime/dubstep DJ isn't just playing banger after banger and wheeling up every second tune (cough... Spyro... cough), the flow of the mix still has to be there.

It's not about the good DJs or the bad DJs, it's all about the ordinary ones and those are most guilty of the things I described.

Spyro, you brought him up, mainly plays for the MCs not the crowd, which is the entire reason why he's fucking terrible.
And this matches what I am saying precisely.

Listen to some old jungle tapes, listen to those grime radio rips, it all the same shit in exactly the same way as it is today.
Spyro isn't unique in that regard, he's one out of many who are making the same mistakes.

I listen to most varieties of UK club music and I agree that MCing over them on the whole is totally shit, but Grime is an exception because it was made for MCing (I hope that guy from another thread doesn't come here and starts chatting shit about Grime and Sublow aren't genres made for MCing when they quite clearly fucking are).

Fair. Now consider this:
It's been 13 years since Ice Rink. I guess Ice Rink isn't a tune you would play without an MC, because it's kinda shit.

Haven't the instrumentals moved on from then? Can't they stand on their own?
I honestly believe they can and that we're better off without MCs, because instrumental grime is probably the most exciting thing music in the current year while all the MC-focussed grime is just trying desperately to go back to 2002, which isn't going to happen.
And as far as I can see everyone else both in the UK and around is just doing what they've always been doing, you know?

>auroras of the world have a point

Yeah, but they are still coming up with "new" things
>>
>>69398350
You're almost completely right. Instrumental Grime has been as exciting as it's ever been in 2016 and it's remarkable that producers are still putting out really good tunes. As for the vocal side of Grime, there's been this massive trend towards having MCs spit over shitty Trap sounding instrumentals, and that to me has basically killed the whole genre, moreso than the trend in mid to late 00s of MCing over poorly made Hip-Hop. I don't think people are explicitly trying to go back to the old sound since the majority of MCs aren't MCing over old sounding tracks, they are instead pushing it in a new (and shit) direction. For me, the whole appeal of Grime in it's earliest incarnation was the instrumental/MC dynamic and how both end up enhacing the other, and in the very early days that was a conscious sound design decision. That doesn't happen so much anymore and we're left with what we have now. Then again, I'm a huge faget who with the exception of Rocks FOE, The Square and more recently YGG doesn't really listen to current Grime anymore so I'm probably chatting shit about all this.

I could also buy the argument that some newer instrumentals which sound really good on their own have a bit too much shit going on in them to allow MCing over, but it's not a great argument. It has happened before though, like when Jump Up became the main subgenre of D&B that MCs chose to spit over, that was a terrible time to be alive.
>>
>>69398561
>And most likely filled with the exact things I've complained about.
exactly. why fix what isn't broken? there are still good grime nights everywhere that are playing the new, mental tunes

>Yeah, but they are still coming up with "new" things
and it's well exciting

>>
>>69398568
>I don't think people are explicitly trying to go back to the old sound since the majority of MCs aren't MCing over old sounding tracks, they are instead pushing it in a new (and shit) direction
Not the sound, but the way things were, or rather the way they were told that things were.

>there's been this massive trend towards having MCs spit over shitty Trap sounding instrumentals
Yeah, but they don't even chat like grime MCs. That's the other side of vocal grime, people who don't want to go back to 2002, but instead to fucking Atlanta. And that's even worse, to be honest.

>For me, the whole appeal of Grime in it's earliest incarnation was the instrumental/MC dynamic and how both end up enhacing the other, and in the very early days that was a conscious sound design decision.
See, this exactly where we disagree, while I do appreciate this dynamic, I much prefer the space deliberately left for the MC in the instrumentalsto stay blank. The instrumentals, especially when they are this open are interesting enough, I feel. Even many of the early ones.

>It has happened before though, like when Jump Up became the main subgenre of D&B that MCs chose to spit over, that was a terrible time to be alive.
Why did MCs choose Jump Up?
It's quite simple: Jump-up is all about those high-impact tunes that are basically rewind bait.

There's literally just four 303's and one 606 in the video. Sure, get a 303 if you want but i'd recommend the new tb 03 instead.
>>
>>69401848
Xoxbox seems like best bet maybe, me heard tb 3 is a preset box. However, less exspensive then a xoxbox and has a though screen and USB and the likes. One could maybe build their own xoxbox and learn a lot in the process. What's the deal with korgs minilogue? Just a meme? Freaking korg Volcas a shit. Practically a child's toy imo. Almost rhythmwolf tier terrible. Wtf korg

I don't go out anymore. Every night it's the same type of douchebags, skets, and legit weirdos. I went out every weekend like twice a week and shit for a couple months and literally didn't make one lasting friendship, or any friends what so ever really. That's frustrating, saying I went there to have fun. It was only fun when I was on a lot of drugs and the dj kicked ass. Which the DJs only did like twice. The best night for me I snuck a cup of ramen noodles in the club and totally turned up showing off my fucking ramen. Everyone got so fucking lot and started to troll the dj and shit. Like he'd be like everyone jump jump jump! And for once they didn't give a fuck lol. You could fee the DJ sweat. I met him outside he club, apparently he's signed to skrillexs record label and I was like "bro I was so lit in there" and he was like "hahaha thanks man" I was like "I brought in ramen and shit dude it was so lit" and he wa like "what dude??" And I'm like " you have to get the message" and then he told me to basically fuck off and walked away with his crew. Was halraious.

Ok /bleep/, pard here. So I'm on the board of student events here at college and I'm thinking about throwing a dance night or two of oldschool styled dance/club music (after we've had a load of Top 40 pop, hip-hop, and a Daft Punk themed night).

So, I'm thinking do one night of music drawn the era of funk, soul, RnB, and Disco up through the the sort of synthy post-Disco, Hi-NRG, Paradise Garage, early electro/hip-hop era of the early to mid 80s.

And then I want to do another night focusing on the era from the early start of Chicago House, Detroit Techno, New York Garage, through acid and deep house, maybe a bit of uk house/rave, and some of the early mid 90s UK Garage stuff.

Thoughts?

Cowboy collegiate/college party planner reporting.

Don't expect attendance to be good if you put it on. There are always a few heads in any college but the vast majority of folks want rap/trap/party music. The way I've traditionally done it is sandwich a set like that in between two rappers or modern producers or whathaveyou.

Attendance will raise dramatically if you serve alcohol as an open bar. Dramatically being like 40-50 people at maximum, if you promote it well.

My advice is to just get a group of 15+ friends together and prepare for an empty floor and headbobbing and awkward drinking.
>>
>>69412661
i mean we've done talking heads and lcd soundsystem and even selena (dead 90s mexican pop singer) nights that went over well. there are for sure people here into disco and stuff for one so that night will be alright. the house/techo one is a bit more tricky, however I have heard not only Mr. Fingers' Can You Feel It playing in our gym before, but Masters At Work and Frankie Knuckles playing at a party at some guys apartment before, so with some proper advertisement, it might go over well. I know there's people into techno as well like this one chick who's big into Nina Kraviz.

Also we've had Teklife people come out here and play and that went over just fine.

Hopefully enough of even the most basic EDM loving pards will be looking for a good time and be drunk and/or on md enough that they'll be a bit more open minded
>>
>>69412892
good luck, report in how it went
>>
>>69412892
Best of, yeah.

I mean to be fair, parties develop because of the network effect. We've had future funk parties go well, so I'm sure disco/US Garage will go well. House will likely go well depending on where in the US you are but I agree with you on techno. We have a "big" techno scene in LA but there's little intersection with college as far as the techno crowd goes in my experience.

I also know a chick who likes Nina Kraviz and wears black all the time and likes Acronym and Surgeon and whatnot. Strange. Last bit's true enough. How big are these nights? Usually people don't roll for college parties in my experience.
>>
I'm genuinely envious of college pards, the opportunity you guys have to create a scene is insane.
>>
>>69413040
>How big are these nights? Usually people don't roll for college parties in my experience.
Usually a couple hundred and there's a big drug scene here.

>>69413095
It's hard to do but it's certainly possible. Many of my friends at our radio station are Anglophiles, and I have a good friend who puts on a dancehall night at a club here and has interned at Radar.

I help run bar at a small recurring independent college house party and we try to put on different events every time. We had an eclectic night and somebody made the mistake of putting me on the decks so I ended up just playing a shit ton of jungle and early happy hardcore. The 5 people that were still there were dancing like mad. It was fun.

Pull up came from the sound system because back then and still now if you go to a real dub clash , they didn't/ don't have mixers. This gap of sound in time allows the crowd to get a hold of their bearings and just initiates more call and response for the track to be reheard in a short time span. This is how you get a percy and this is how certain tracks get really big. It's a sort of echochamber to maximize a tracks crowd pleasing capabilities So the same gesture has evolved into a wheel because you can either A. Set a cue point or B. Spin it back furiously on a needle that is made for that sort of turntablism. It's isn't necessarily only because of MC's .

i was newbie and did as you guys said. i went through the /bleep/ playlists and found the style that i like the most and that is : dub & minimal techno or stuff with deep vibe

i checked the classics (from lists on the web from factmag and like), collages from what.cd before it was gone and some playlists in youtube.

so what's next ? should i keep going through youtube playlists cause most of the time i don't find a really good playlist ?? can you give me some good youtube channels at least or label to check ? i often check discogs recs too.
