Does anyone know what makes the Ibanez prestige basses so much more expensive compared to the premiums?
From what I can tell, the differences are quality in woods, electronics, hardware. Though I can't figure out what makes the price jump so much from one to the other.
>>
Micro Dark Terror, or save up for the Dark Terror? I'd go for the Tiny but no effects loop is kinda putting me off. No idea how much I'd even use effects that need the loop when I play distorted though.
>>
Cryogencially freezed frets.

What are Gibson memeing about now? Are they just talking about tempered steel fretwires?
>>

Save for the Dark, if thats the sound you're looking for. Keep an eye on the used market.

I'm looking for a max 200€ home practice amp(might use for jamming with some friends). Should i get a Mustang II, Roland Cube 20gx(or 40gx), Boss Katana 50 or Blackstar ID Core 20?

Anyone ever heard of these amps? Are they good?

That's the brand of amp Kirk Hammett first used when recording.
>>

katana 50 for sure. Its a step up sound quality-wise from those last generation modeling amps

Avoid tube amps for home practice-theyre sublime when you turn them up a bit, but universally sound bad at bedroom volume. the tiny 5w ones are the worst at this actually
>>
>>69292760

yeah, theyre solid marshall clones

I've been looking to buy a Fender Nashville Deluxe Telecaster for a while now but there's just one important detail I can never get a straight answer on, as I can never find one in person.
Does any one know if this particular model has a glossy finish on the fretboard? This is an important detail for me.
If not, does anyone know of any budget telecasters that do have that high gloss finish on the fretboard?

If you can find one of these on the used market, buy it. It's superior to the Nashville Tele in every way.
>>
>>69288991
What kind of bass rig is normal nowadays? Do people just carry a large-ish combo around or a 410 cab + head? Will I look retarded if I bring a 410 cabinet to a rehearsal?
I was thinking about getting a combo amp used to bring for lower volume stuff and for rehearsals and then have the 410 halfstack at a dedicated practice space once that works out.
>>
>>69294784
What is it called?
>>
>>69294932
Just plug a DI into the PA.
>>
>>69294977
Valley Arts Custom Pro (Brent Mason model). Gibson mini-hum in the neck, Duncan Strat stack mid, Duncan tele bridge.
Standard Tele switching, but there's an extra 'volume' knob that controls ONLY the middle pickup. This allows you to blend any amount of middle pickup regardless of where the pickup selector is.
Incredible instrument. Of the 7 electrics I own, this on gets the most usage.
>>
>>69294977
This is essentially what Fender based their Nashville Tele on. Brent Mason is an A-list session player, who brought the 3 pickup tele idea to the scene.
>>
>>69295192
>Just plug a DI into the PA.
Pretty sure there isn't a PA in most practice spaces.
>>
>>69295289
Then how do you hear the vocals when you rehearse?
>>
How heavy/awkward are Rickenbackers?

Asking since I used to own a hollow-body Epiphone Dot that felt pretty clunky to play.
>>
>>69295312
They are heavy but I've never felt they were awkward.
>>
>>69295308
Not him, but through a guitar practice amp. You'd think most musicians would be in charge of owning their own amplification, but that doesn't apply to vocalists apparently
>>
>>69294784
That is such a nice looking guitar
>>
>>69295357
Last time I did that, I was 16. How old are you?

Most actual bands have practice spaces with PAs. I practice in three different locations, all with their own PAs.
>>
>>69295379
23, band for 4 years, just got a new vocalist. We used to rent a room per hour that had equipment in it including a PA, but now we rent an empty room by month since it's much cheaper
>>
>>69294932
But to answer your question, I've seen bands use both larger cabs and head or a combo, the more serious bands have the former.

I would advise choosing one or the other (based on what sound you are looking for and how much $ you want to invest) and just accept you have to haul shit. Install wheels into your cab to make it easier.
>>69295409
Fair enough. If you all chipped in like $50 you could get a cheapo PA head and speakers from a pawn shop. It's fine for rehearsal, then you collectively own it.
>>
>>69295373
Thanks! Found one used, as they were pricy when they first came out. Unfortunately they're out of production now, so used is the only way to aquire one; which may cause the price to rise as well.

Good used poorfag options for a basic practice amp? What about guitars? Used Epiphone Les Paul Special II, Jackson Dinky, and Ibanez of some sort are what I'm looking at mostly. My '69 reissue Thinline Tele has a glossy fretboard but its quite a bit away from the Nashville model.
>>
>>69295638

Yeah, the katana is a mostly-analog Solid state amp based on the tech boss put in their waza amps. It has like 5 clean-crunch amp models that sound pretty good and one high gain model that sounds amazing (the brownsound one). Interaction is done through knobs like a regular tube amp

The code is basically a better version of the line6 spider. Has HUNDREDS of mediocre effects/amp models that are navigated through using either the onboard LED screen or an iphone app.

If youre a 12 year old that cant tell the difference in sound quality and just want a machine to fuck around with endlessly, get the CODE. If you want something more like a regular guitar amp, or something loud enough to jam on, get the Katana

pick up a cheap nylon guitar. it won't create the calluses you want like a steel string or electric but it's a relatively painless way to develop your finger muscles.
>>
Pretty stupid question considering I have been playing for 8 years but here goes:

When you do runs across multiple strings is your hand just supposed to rotate around your palms pivot point, or are you supposed to keep the pick perpendicular and go in a diagonal motion.

I have been doing the first way for years but I lose volume as I reach the higher strings and the pick angle goes to like a 45 degree angle.

>>
>>69296727
I have a AC15, it sounds fine at low volume

Sounds better cranked up a bit but still sounds really good low

The tube amp is bad for bedroom amp meme comes from people wanting tons of gain to play with, most people interested in AC15s set them really clean or just a bit of dirt in them

Tube amps only suffer at low volume when you power amp overdrive and compression to go a long with the pre amp overdrive, pre amp overdrive on its own is what sounds kind of buzzy or thin, the clang and singing sound is from the power amp ODing

You can get a real 70s Marshall JMP head for around $1000

What are you gents doing this(or next) weekend music related?
I've got a wedding ceremoney to play for this coming Saturday, feeling confident. Perhaps a little nervous given it's the midwest outside in December, and it's my first one.

This coming wednesday I'm going to practice a bit with a guy who can actually sing and come up with melodies(I am not a clever man, just good at performing), so that's hopeful to become something.

>>
>>69299242
reverb can be a subtle delay you tard
>>
>>69299118
that's mostly due to the extensive history of double tracking as a form of highlighting leads (instrumental or vocal) in popular music. short subtle delay is the bold text of recorded music
>>
>>69299260
Your mom can be a subtle delay
>>
>>69299242
reverb is not a delay
delay is not reverb

reverb is a reflection of infinite sound waves over time
delay is distinct repetition of a sound, usually in a finite number

>>69299118
what kind of music are you thinking of?

I'd say its more often to have reverb on a signal with no delay than a signal with delay and no reverb
>>
>>69299481
>reverb is not a delay
>delay is not reverb
>reverb is a reflection of infinite sound waves over time
>delay is distinct repetition of a sound, usually in a finite number
Incorrect. reverb is a delay with a very sort delay time, which we perceive as reverb instead of echo
>>
>>69299553
no it isn't.

Delay is a repeat of a recorded sound, reverb is a reflection of the initial sound.

There is no recording and repeat with reverb.

he keeps the guitarists with AD/HD happy with his over expressions >>69298529 proves my point
>>
>>69299587
>reverb is a reflection of the initial sound.
Which is a repeat
>There is no recording and repeat with reverb
Nothing is recorded with an echo either.
>>
>>69299118
Because a subtle delay is far better at masking your lack of skill than a subtle reverb.
>>
>>69297826
Bowing, as in curved? Or the neck is straight but at an upward angle relative to the body?

If first, that's tricky. Could be broken or somehow dislodged truss rod. Maybe warped neck. Probably need new neck.

If second, it maybe just need a shim or a little bit of routing at the connection between neck and body. This is much easier to fix and shouldn't cost too much to have done.
>>
Reverb and Delay are different technically.

Reverb is indistinct blended repetitions of sound occuring 30 milliseconds apart after the initial sound is made.

Echo or Delay is distinct repetitions of a sound more than 30 milliseconds after the sound is made
>>
>>69294784
Sick guitar! Is that some sort of Telecaster??
>>
>>69299977
As I said, Reverb and Echo are both types of Delays, which differ depending on delay time.
>>
>>69299118
Delay doesn't muddy up the mix as much as reverb.
>>

>>
>>69300177
Why do you want to give up fine intonation control? If it's a matter of tone, you can make modifications to conventional electric hardtail bridge saddles to have alternative materials making the contact with the strings.
>>
>>69300177
just block the FR so it cant move with wood or something, it will look a lot better than whatever abomination you decide to change it to

You also have to take into account player, guitar, amp settings, recording techniques and quality when watching a video of an amp. The greatest amp in the world may not sound as good as the worst amp in the world if it's being handled by a tard.

If you're dead set on getting a new amp you'll have a lot more buying power in the used market, go try some out and don't rely on the Internet to make your choice. The Marshall sucks, the orange is just OK but it's not going to give you the sound you expect from an orange, never even heard of a monoprice. I don't know if I would trust a cheap no name tube amp that's only available on the internet, all that thing needs is cheap capacitors or a low quality transformer to open you to the wonderful world of expensive tube amp maintenance. I wouldn't recommend a tube amp ever to someone that can't afford it. Expect to pay $50 a year on tubes. When I was gigging all the time I spent $350 a year between 3 amps just for tubes. That doesn't include my blues Jr that sees studio and practice use frequently.

Don't immediately start over when you mess up while recording. Just keep playing, at least until the end of the section you're doing. Then listen to it and record again and repeat until you get something you like. If you're consistently getting a certain part wrong then you know you should give it special attention before you try to record it again.
Starting over will get you stressed and anxious and leads to more mistakes, which leads to more stress and anxiety and on and on. Not to mention knowing how to camouflage mistakes is an useful skill to develop.

They can be. There's probably 1 or 2 preamp tubes and 2 power amplifier tubes. My slx has 4 each.

$12.50 each for mediocre tubes, decent tubes are like $20 a pop. A lot of them are made in the same factories and are rebranded. Some have different specs, some have better quality control. You don't need to replace them every year, depends on your playing and if your bias is correct. Some of those cheap tube amps don't have adjustable bias, and if it's naturally hot you'll run through tubes quicker. That's another cost if you want to fix it and can't solder.

But yeah, they can be money sinks. My slx is 100 watts, a new quality transformer is $300 approx. For that monoprice it'll still be around $100, and you'll probably have to settle for something with similar specs to what was in there, assuming you can get the specs.
>>
>>69301334
I wasn't saying it was impossible, just that I was curious as to how you planned to do it. There's more than one way to approach that problem, especially since the cavity is asymmetrical. Personally, I'd probably carve and glue in a separate front block and a back block.

Craftsmanship. You buy made in US in part because that should, usually, sometimes, ensure good qualities components all through the guitar that were assembled with some attention to detail and care.

>>
>>69302750
True but the standard of quality control before it heads out the door should ideally be better than something you're going to get from Indonesia or whatever. I know of course that this is not always the case; like the Fender Japan factory putting out arguably nicer stuff off the rack than the US factory was for a period of years.

>>
>>69302722
theres no difference in manufacturing process and quality between what goes on in chinese factories or US factories making large production like Fender or Gibson

There is no 'craftsmanship' here, its just line assembly stuff, hundreds of workers that have one small singular job they do all day at lightning fast pace

craftsmanship is when you have a single dude or a couple dudes doing all the steps and scrutinizing every step to make sure its right, not meet a quota for the day

Why would you ever pay for pedals if you can get everything on your pc digitally for free?
>>
>>69303044
Because I actually play music live in bands you LRRG.
>>
>>69303082
Why are pedals so expensive? Seems like most pedals you're LUCKY to get them for $80-120
>>
>>69303410
Hand built pedals cost more because you're paying the wage of whoever built them on top of parts, small run pedals also cost more to produce by volume, also supply and demand have an influence on that. For large scale pedals it's usually

20% parts
30% manufacturing
20% logistics and overhead
10% advertising
20% profit

Give or take. I looked into it before the market got as saturated as it is now.

Some boutique builders that offer higher quality products just charge more because they can, bigger company set the market price at $100 a pedal? Boutique builder offers a clone with better quality control and higher quality parts for $200. Those may not cause a cost increase themselves, but people will pay it for something they think is better. A Chevy will get you across town, but a Cadillac will give you a nicer ride for more money.

I've played Ricks though plenty of times. They've been in my store and I've played them at other stores because "omg Rick". I do enjoy them. I just think the J-bass sound does a better job at versatility than a Rick does.

how do semi hollows work? like how and why does added vibration influence sound when the strings are played directly over pick ups anyway?
>>
>>69304821
Like I said, I couldn't hear the bass very well in Piggies. It didn't sound any different. I'm also DJing right now so not particularly paying close attention. I have better things to do than argue online about bass tones.
>>69304829
They're nice, but seem a bit gimmicky and pricey to an outsider.
>>69304839
Buy a Les Paul not made by Gibson.
Never buy an Epiphone.
>>
>>69304902
The strings vibrate the top, which in turn produces different tones. It's much less noticeable in a semi hollow than it is in acoustic guitars, but there is a difference. Solid top is where tops really don't matter, since there is no vibrating.

Also, the hollowed body makes for some different feedback options.

>how would the most expensive of Epiphones compare to the lowest end Gibsons?

They're expensive shit. They will look nice with the glossy finish and all that but they won't sound as good as even a cheap Gibson and they'll fall apart much faster.

As for your choices I would suggest spending as much of your budget as you can, so go with the Studio T, the 2016 models weren't bad from what I saw. Not sure what is different in the 2017 version.
>>
>>69304902
They are generally manufactures with a little man inside. every time you strum a guitar string, it is connected to a pulley with a pendulum and a blade swinging inside the guitar and attempts to cut the little man in half. He jumps to dodge the swinging pendulum, and when he lands it causes vibration inside the guitar. The vibrations are then amplified and turned into sound.
>>
>>69304829

The finish on the Deluxe Nashville Tele neck is not high gloss. When I say high gloss my reference point would be something like the Fender Classic Series reissues that have a thick poly finish on the neck. The finish on the Deluxe is more similar to the semi-satin finish of the Fender MIM Standard series.
>>
>>69306826
Are you buying new or used? With a budget of $400 USD you could choose from a variety of used Made in Mexico Fender Strat models that would be of superior quality to a Squier.

I've never had success putting the overdrive/boost after fuzz/distortion. Maybe I'm just doing it wrong.

Why put the comp after the octaver?
>>
>>69308673
Really? Where would I go to buy these stats? Thanks for responding btw
>>
>>69309252
reverb.com, ebay.com, yourcity.craigslist.org are good places to start
>>
>>69309232
Better tracking for the octave pedal.
>>
>>69309232
Because you have to think of the octave pedal as the original sound source, putting the compressor after it will allow you to treat it as you would the normal guitar signal, it will be more crisp sounding before hitting everything else.

It's not a huge difference though.. You could make it work either way.

>>69309316

Alright, thanks. I'll try that out.

This is entirely right. I was on adderal once and i played and recorded for 6hrs straight. the more i played the worse it seemed to get. get a backing beat and listen through 1 earbud

This guys tried to differentiate between 4 different stratocaster guitars, ranging from around 300 pounds to around 3,000 pounds.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xP_Ks2_m5sI

If it's too long to watch:
1. They could spot the cheapest one correctly (the squire), but they said it was fairly close to the more expensive guitars in it's sound.

2. The three other guitars, they said are very close in quality.... the three other guitars were two custom-made extremely expensive fenders and a regular japanese made fender.
>>
>>69310990
To be fair they did not include a regular non-Japanese strat in this comparison though.

Maybe a regular strat is also pretty close to the high-end customs
>>
>>69310806
depends on which models dude.
>>
>>69310990
Nothing new here. With high-end guitars you pay for attention to detail, craftsmanship, the name, etc. Electric guitars are I credibly simple, of course you can make very good ones for very little money.
>>
>>69310990
craftmanship goes a long way. strats are a bit unfair to use in an experiment like this, with more refinely designed guitars like hollow bodies the difference would be obvious

but yeah, if you're not a professional musician or vintage collector spending 3 grand on a guitar is silly

Trem/Flang and Phas can be switched around desu, I can't stand Flanger or Phaser so I'd personally just use the Tremolo.

AC15 owner here - they are excellent amps if that is the sound you are looking for. Great clean tones, and you can push them with an overdrive pedal for dirty tones at low volume.

I live in a flat and it is perfectly manageable, and gigs easily. Look at the AC10 as well - they are killer amps.

I am looking to buy a guitar, I am a complete beginner, would like to play my favorite tracks, solo only, mostly shoegaze and soft rock. I'm cool with buying it off of ebay or second-handed if it's a reasonable thing. Acoustic or electric, whichever is best suited for what I'm up to. Kinda on a low budget, 100-150 max.
Can someone recommend me something?

What's a good way to transport 1x12 combos around? I heard handtrucks are pretty popular but a lot of the handtrucks I've seen have very narrow platforms and that scares the shit out of me thinking the amp might fall over at a slight bump or something. Is there a trolley that can fit a standard 1 by 12 combo with barriers on all 4 sides too rather than just on the bottom? Thanks

Use a Tie-down strap around the front, each end of the rope hooked onto the back of the trolley.
