Through a bone or graph nut in there, stretch your strings, don't use old strings or very very thick strings and if things are still out of tune through fucking locking tuners in it.

That's fucking huge when it comes to large scale manufacturing dude. The Fender factory will without a doubt close and Fender will need to make up the massive losses by jacking up their prices and moving the rest of their operation to China/Indonesia.
>>
>>68983378
The Fender Mexico factory *
>>
>>68983257
Those things wont help with tuning though. The graphite nut idea is for non locking tremolo players so the string will slide easier so "they" have less tuning issues(im yet to see any hard evidence that it has any effect) and the string is less likely to break from friction, old strings can cause tuning issues but not as many as bad tuners, new strings only stretch for 2 days most by themselves, and locking tuners are for fast string changes, not locking in place to prevent you from going out of tune.

Tuning issues resolved from graphite nuts and locking tuners are because theyre a higher quality part than what was on there. The only issues from tuning that you get from nuts are bad notches with burrs or imperfections(generally from factories with poor qaqc) that grip a string. Graphite nuts that are put on after the fact tend to have someone with a lttle knowledge, skill, and the proper tools doing the work with attention to detail. Locking tuners just tend to be medium to high quality parts, theyre made for gigging guitarists and i have yet to find a cheap set of them being sold by anywhere reputable.
>>
How do you think flatwound strings on a single coil Strat would sound for metal rhythm guitar?
>>
>>68983378
>>68983387

This is super bad for us, man.

Fender Factory is a mainstay in Ensenada, hundreds of people work there... I'm probably gonna lose my job too if that happens haha.
>>
>>68983452
depends which metal.
I think it wouldn't sound so good unless you want to do some boomy stoner/doom kind of thing, having lots of treble you can cutoff after with the tone and EQ knobs is kind of a good thing.
at least that's what I think. with some pedal fuckery and good amps it's probably doable
>>
>>68983432
>The graphite nut idea is for non locking tremolo players so the string will slide easier so "they" have less tuning issues(im yet to see any hard evidence that it has any effect) and the string is less likely to break from friction
If the nut, especially on the wound strings, is too tight and you start to bend chances are high that after releasing the string won't slide as much back as you hope it would. This results in the strings being out of tune and you can prevent it with "lubed" nuts such as in graphite or bone
I really can't argue against the locking tuner thing, it is hard to find any evidence.

Another thing that SG guy could do wrong is stringing the guitar wrong, can result in tuning instability too.
And if everything fails and other wise you love your 150$ guitar to death you could install an evertune bridge for double the value of the guitar
>>
>>68983387

If the nut is too tight you widen it. I owned a g400 once, it too wouldnt stay in tune. It also sounded bad. It didnt play nearly as nice as an sg standard, it played like it came out of a starter pack, even after a set up. For the price it would have took to get it up to snuff i could have bought a used sg standard.

You could get away with it if you're playing slow doom style rhythms though since they do sound a bit bassier/boomier.

In 2007-2009 /mu/ guitar threads were generally filled with egotistical whackjobs, but they were technically proficient. If you could read through their flippant manner, they offered good tips and tricks and kept the discussion to actual gear and instruments. /gg/ for the last year has just been a meme spiral of shit that I believe is indicative of the over-all lack of intellect between 16-21 year olds these days.

>he'll be bringing back as much manufacturing as possible.

Doubtful, there's always somewhere else to set up business. Those jobs won't be coming back to the US and prices will go up for goods to make up for any losses in any exterminated free trade deals.

Fender has already started selling Chinese made guitars that are essentially squiers with Fender Decals, I can see them moving their entire MIM operation to those factories. Fender will become more like Gibson, a legacy brand with the high end being out of reach for most players and the low end (epiphone in Gibson's case) being mass produced low quality guitars. It's a shame because MIM guitars were really the sweet spot between quality and affordability that was only possible because of close proximity of the Fender Mexico factory.

>>
>>68986113

Honestly these seem like pretty good basses they sound great on all the videos I've seen.
>>
>>68986161
Because you don't need it, reverberating low frequencies doesn't sound so good and not as huge as reverbered guitar. And it's a bit less useful, reverb on a rhythm guitar works while reverb on a bass playing a bassline will kinda drown out the lower frequencies.
Cutting through is more important if you want to do lead bass, beyond that, effects depend entirely on what you want to sound like.
Even the spiciest, memeiest bassist doesn't use effects (aside maybe a subtle compressor ?) for his lead bass tone
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oTlC7UtBFw

>>68986299
It makes sense, pretty much the whole design of that bass is cutting corners and spending less on the manufacturing, so they can have a tighter QC
I still wouldn't buy one if I wanted a bass.

>>
>>68986412
It works better in the mix. But I'll agree, his tone isn't the greatest thing ever. The point's just that if you want to have some lead bass, you need to get through the mix, regardless of the genre.

Greetings /gg/, i was wondering if it's any profitable the idea of manufacturing pedals for selling locally. I mostly plan on copying pedal schemes and sell at affordable prices, i think there's plenty market here in
Mexico
for cheap stuff and the scene here is not huge but big enough to get a decent amount of customers as long as i do a good job at making stuff
>>

Ah man that sounded like a killer combo, your friends were silly as not to appreciate the lush modulated underbelly you would add to any jam. I bought mine for 600 AUD (cash convertors is way overpriced and was mildly impulsive but I saw it and plugged in and it sounded really RIGHT so who cares) so glad you didn't sell that baby! It's absolutely right for me, even though I'm always tempted to get a AC-15 or something of similar ilk it's clean is so good at any volume that I can stomach a good overdrive with it no complaints. Also saw this photo of GW McLennan playing one this morning so very chuffed.

oh wow HOW EMBARASSING

We've got a pedal maker already up here in Tijuana, they're doing pretty good for themselves and even got one of their pedals on Noel Gallagher's pedalboard.

They make original pedals though and are all electrical engineers so if you're thinking of just making cheap fuzz factories or big muffs I doubt you'll get good money/fame.

Nah, I don't trust low quality/price bodies. I also might go with an ash or a maple body if I go with warmoth.

I know how to play all 7 inversions of the heptatonic major scale in all 12 major keys.

I also know how to play all 5 inversions to the pentatonic major scale in all 12 major keys.

Mode is to scale as inversion is to chord or interval. Same shit.

If you don't know all 12 heptatonic and pentatonic scales and their inversions you're falling behind. It's easy, especially on guitar.

Not this whole song but I really like the short bit played clean at 2:10. It's pretty satisfying riff to play on acoustic. The song as recorded is tuned down a step or two, i don't remember which, but you can play it in standard if you like.

You can quite easily hard tail the trem with a block of wood or a deck of cards. I don't do it because I'm wary of the possibility of leaving an imprint on the wood. i risk compromising my identity by mentioning this, but have you looked into alternative/regenerative medicine, prolotherapy, or seeing a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO)?

I am currently not working and living with my parents after a groin injury in 2015, I quit my job january this year and am still not better because I didn't truly start treatment until august this year.
I'm extremely lucky that I am in online school for my first two years, and that I have understanding parents.

My point in mentioning all this though is that conventional medicine failed me for my groin injury and I have been having to seek other means for healing.
Obviously depending on your condition this shit I mentioned may not help you, but if its muscular it definitely could

whats wrong anon?

I have to put it back together first. It's basically new. I wanted to upgrade pickups but then this pain business set on.

I have a bulging disc causing sciatica pain. I have looked into traditional surgery, as well as stem cell stuff. Both incredibly expensive. I have done everything to resolve it otherwise. Standing and walking is very painful as well as sitting. Since I can't really stand I haven't been able to play guitar for a few years. I hadn't sold it yet in the hope of being better.

With everyone freaking out about MiM shutting down, what are the chances Fender does something like Gibsons Nashville and Memphis factories? In the Memphis factory all the guitars are hollowbody but they are all priced more expensive than the ones in Nashville. That being said should they have two US factories with one having a higher quality than the other? Can you imagine the Fullerton Factory opening up again? What if they go full madmen and decommission all international factories and have both Fender And Squier MiA with more mass producing of Squiers

>>68981302

What if a Trump presidency means not only cheaper mainstream guitars (Fender, maybe Gibson, etc.)
But what of this also allows for the small time guitar makers to break out and finally compete with the big dogs. It would finally be nice to see selection at guitar stores again.

They won't be cheaper, you'll just be able to afford them because you'll have a better paying job. If you go to a music store and a Chinese shitplank is priced nearly as much as a higher quality American guitar you'd buy the American guitar every time.

Anyone know what kinda bass the guy from The Garden plays? Its driving me crazy, all I know is it is a Fender. (I'm pretty sure.)
>>
>>68997293
Google says it's a Hofner Tele Bass.
>>

I don't think Fender have actually made Tele-shaped basses. There was Squier ones recently, but before that I don't think they made them, but other companies did.

Really fun guitar. I use my Strat for more serious clean playing and my mustang if I wanna go wild, the small shape makes it a lot more enjoyable to thrash around and it's nice to have control of it all across your chest. Highly recommend if you're playing any type of Punk

Thats exactly what i use mine for, my strat is for alot of classic Dick Dale/Takeshi Teruchi Surf and NY soft punk like Television, Strokes, and Parquet Courts. My Mustangs are for exactly what youre going for Ty, Thee Oh Sees, FIDLAR, garage rock in general and its perfect. You will need a Fuzz or OD though, maybe an add on reverb also. Check out SADGIRL, Shannon and the Clams, Beach Goons, and The Frights for some really good surf punk, The Frights put the final nail in the coffin when deciding to buy a mustang witch is now that surf green Squier VM Mustang modded out.

Hey people.
I've gotten an assignment to play bass along with a classical guitarist.
Thing is, I don't really listen to classical and I have no clue how the music works.
I don't know the piece we're playing yet, but the guitarist said she'd pick something on the simpler side for my sake.
Shit's still super out of my comfort zone

Anyone got any experiences on similar settings?
All help and input is appreciated
>>
>>68998799
a classical guitarist's playing his own basslines while playing the rest of the piece, you'll be more than fine if you have to play some basslines.
>>
>>68998831
So I could just double the basslines she's playing and add in some filler shit?
Maybe now is the time to invest in a bow.
>>
>>68998897
there's not much I can see someone do with a bass guitar over some classical.
a bow might get completely fucked by the bass strings's windings though

>>68999014
Oh, on a double bass it should be fine
>>
>>68998897
>>68999014
Pretty sure you should know beforehand whether you'll be playing arco. Also, cheap bows can be fine just make sure it's real horse hair, that it's not too heavy/decently balanced and that they didn't glue in the hair. I have a 50€ bow that plays fine, definitely suitable for a student. You don't need to spend several hundred bucks or even more for your first bow IMO.
>>
>>68999014
I have to admit I've never seen a classical guitar + bowed double bass duo(I'm not that well-travelled, so it probably exists somewhere) but I do know a few pieces for cello and guitar that hopefully can give you some ideas:

>>
>>68999055
Yeah I thought about it and I'm putting the bow idea off for now.
It's only a week until we're playing and I don't think I'll be able to get a bow and learn how to use it well enough in that time.

gee bill, how come the mod lets you post THREE off topic comments ?
>>
>>68991671
1) Learn scales and modes so well that you can play in all positions freely and move in and out of them. No more thinking in boxes. This includes pentatonic, harmonic minor and blues scales.

2) Seek educational material by people renowned for their technique. Listen intently but don't be afraid to break away and follow your own ideas if you think that's what will work best. Paul Gilbert's Intense Rock I got me started on the path to alternate picking dexterity and I'm sure a lot of people can make that claim.

3) Ear transcribe as much as you can, even things that sound too fast to transcribe. Once you are well versed in this you will be able to approximate and eventually nail note for note even the fastest solos and most unintelligible shit in songs.

4) Practice all of the time, steal every lick you can and adapt your own, be prepared to put in the time, the blood, sweat and tears and always remember the gym rat's axiom of no pain no gain. The same is true for building guitar technique. If you're not exhausted after however many hours of practicing, you didn't practice hard enough.

Nooooice.

I went Guitar first in like 2004, then 2006 double for a year and a bit in school, and then bass guitar in 2008. Not sure if starting on double effected my bass guitar playing, because I payed no attention to it at the time (I was 13) and it was all classical, and the teacher played Viola, so I didn't really get taught how to play pizz well. Now I appreciate it I wanna go back.

When I said electric I meant bass guitar, just wanna clear up any misunderstandings. Didn't even think about EUB's when I said it desu.

Starting to play double affected my bass guitar playing for sure.
I now "see" open strings more instead of just thinking in boxes, and I understand why the lines you hear so often in jazz are what they are. Some things feel much more natural to play on the db. Also I find that I play with more power coming from the entire arm then just playing with my fingers.
>>
>>69001622
Yeah, I got that. I normally just call it the Bass Guitar because it's clearer and it triggers some people.

I think I have the plucking hand power thing, but not so much of the fretting hand thought process. It's hard to make yourself think that way with a EBG, especially a short scale (which I use) when you can easily play scales in a box pattern without moving your thumb.
>>
So question guys. I hear that Crate amps are terrible (and they are in my experience) But I keep seeing Blue Voodoo's around for fairly cheap, and it looks like people actually like them a lot. I've never tried a tube Crate amp, only the solid state shit sounding ones. Is the blue voodoo any good? Is it at least a solid amp for 200-350 bucks?
>>

>>
You bros know of a tuning that makes it easy to make middle eastern sounding music? something like a microtonal tuning
>>
>>69001622
>>69001913
What I really learned from Upright is pivoting my thumb. I play 35'' 5er BGs usually and I can stretch far enough most of the time, but it's uncomfortable. On UB the stretch is literally impossible so I had to learn the pivot technique. That benefitted my BG playing IMO.
>>
>>69002053
I just like the sound, size and feel better. Might be because I've got small hands. I also had a stroke that fucked up my plucking hand, so for a while I was relying more on sustained notes rather then quantity of notes, and this bass sustains forever.

I think it also sounds more like a double, which I might have picked up a taste for that tone.

It was 2014, it's pretty much fine now. I was 21 when it happened and apparently brains can fix themselves when you're young. Only real problem now is my arm isn't great at dealing with cold, and I speak like I'm tipsy always. And I drool sometimes, but that just fits in with the bass player vibe.

Alot of playing came back as soon as I got the strength back in the arm; I guess because muscle memory. But for a while after I got into the habit of less is more when constructing lines. Made it easier to play for extended periods, and my head just couldn't do the theory on the fly as well.
>>
>>69002542
Yes, I meant a ric 4003. They are 33 1/4 in scale length iirc. I'm just saying that short scales and basses with Ppups often sound similar to a 4003. That said, they're not identical by any means.
