How to distinguish original B.C.Rich stealth from the Chuck Schuldiner tribute version?
>>
Does Guitar Translate to Bass well?
I want to record each separate parts because I don't have a band yet but I don't know if I should buy a cheap bass to practice with or just buy a MIM standard like my other gear.
>>
Are there any alternatives to EHX Ring Thing?
>>
>>68954008
The notes are the same as the 4 low strings on guitar, but everything else is pretty different.
>>
>>68954002
The Chuck Schuldiner one is black, only has a bridge pickup, and has diamond inlays.
>>68954032
Lots of ring modulators out there
>>
>>68954095
Ring mod/harmonizer in one pedal particularly
>>
>>68954002
serial number, or electronics, the Chuck Schuldiner version only has one Dimarzio X2N and volume knob. Which isn't a bad pickup, but only having it without any tone knob or other pickup make it not that versatile

>>68954008
throw the chords out of the equation, and you'll have to relearn the whole right hand technique, unless you play with a pick, or play classical
buying a used MiM is a good idea as it'll retain most of its value anyway.
Also if you play vertically a lot (which is my case), you'll find it really annoying to only have 4 strings and having to move around the neck so much.
>>
>>68954135
Man. Everything is telling me I should be playing bass instead of guitar. Convince me to not buy a Rondo /gg/
>>
Responding to the post in the last thread, I think the HH Jazzy is the best under 1k Jazzmater but the fact that it doesn't have jm pickups ruins it.
>>
>>68954095

Man I love that fucking guitar and I'm an alternative/punk faggot that only plays Jazzmasters.

rip Chuck
>>
>>68954095
>>68954135
Well, here he is with two original ones and they also feature only one pick up/volume knob
>>
what do i do if my shit guitar's intonation doesn't change at all when i try setting it up?
I haven't and don't want to mess with the truss rod and delicate shit like that
>>
>>68954239
>I haven't and don't want to mess with the truss rod and delicate shit like that
something tells me this is where the problem lies
>>
How do I get the woman tone?
>>
>>68954185

I mean for 1k I'd just get a used Japanese or a new Classic Lacquer.
>>
>>68954183
>Convince me to not buy a Rondo /gg/
That's personal, but 5 string Ibanez SR are the comfiest low-mid tier basses I've ever tried.
Bass is fucking fun though, go for it if you can.
I wish I had money for a bass rig.

>>68954185
speaking about JM pickups, is there a similarily voiced pickup for 7 string guitars ? It would be neat.

>>68954239
If you want to setup the guitar, you need to setup the truss rod, there's no way around.
However it might just be that your guitar is simply shit. Mine has wonky intonation on the high E and the saddle needs to be really forward to sound right.
>>
>>68954256
>>68954286
well, it's not that i don't want to mess with truss rod but more like i lack the tools to do so and i just quit my job so i can't go with a luthier at the moment.
Does lifting the tune o matic bridge a bit change intonation?
>>
>>68954341
also is there a chance it goes better if i try to do a top wrap setup?

>>68954002
the regular stealth looks better
especially with this headstock shape

>>68954106
sounds like you're looking for a ring thing
>>
>>68954341
>>68954356
Changing height may affect the intonation a little, but you shouldn't use the bridge height to setup the intonation. Top wrap shouldn't change anything as intonation only concerns the string between the nut and the bridge.
Stupid question but are you sure you're going the right way ? I'm asking because I did it wrong the first time I tried myself.
Also, just get some cheap allen keys at the store instead of going to the luthier, you'll save money in the long term if you know how to setup a guitar yourself. Money that you'll then spend for actual luthier repairs, like a fretjob.
>>

Are these decent pickups? They are KHL not official fenders, but also not 300 bucks
>>
>>68954479
you may want more than a boost, like a light overdrive or something
>>
Are Behringer pedals really as terrible as people say i know they're dimestore as fuck, but are they really that bad
bought 3 for about 70 with a power adapter from some schmo without knowing anything about them
they are the equivalent of a metal zone, a tube screamer and a flanger pedal of some description

totally worth it for pricey boss clones, unless you're gonna give it heavy-ish use

Ok, /gg/, I'm a bit undecided here:

I'm really torn between the Scarlett 2i2 and the Behringer UMC202HD on my quest to connect the guitar to the PC, mainly because of price.

All reviews I've seen are inconclusive imo.
On one hand the Scarlett looks awesome for some low latency fx, but the 202HD is less than half the price (and I don't know how it behaves in the latency regard).

Any experience on the 2? Is the Scarlett worth 2x the price?

PLEASE help.
>>
>>68954426
>are you sure you're going the right way ?
Totally not, i'm pretty much going in blind since i don't exactly have many tools for this kind of gig (especially for measuring), although i'm not either fixing or getting things worse really, i suppose i'll get the keys with the spare money i've got since it seems without further setup i won't get anywhere

>Bass is fucking fun though, go for it if you can.
after looking more into it I remembered I have no room for anything. Maybe I don't really need a bass amp or cab....
>>
>>68954600
Well I was planning on making some noise rock with them after I get my memory man (it's in the mail), so it's probably not the best for those purposes, I'll probably end up replacing them once I get a bit of money together next year
>>
>>68954753
read up on some tutorials then, if you're going in one way, you're going to make your intonation worse than it already is, while the other way will correct it.

>>68954764
you don't need a bass amp if you're just recording, or if you're playing in venues that have a PA (do get a preamp if you're going into the PA), or a backline amp.
huge amps are a meme, there's no real need for a 500W head through a 4x10 in most situations
>>
I want to get one or two pedals for my daughter for Christmas (she only has a starter guitar and amp). What should I get? Budget is somewhat limited.
>>
>>68954846
I've checked it out a little, the thing is that moving the saddles all the way back only makes it not terrible but it doesn't make it just right, i guess there's no other way around

Multi effects pedals are your best bet as far as value for money is concerned, I recommend this one because it's 3 channel, you get 94 effects to choose from and it's pretty sturdy

I went a full year without buying anything, and I feel that I'm still not at a high enough skill level to warrant upgrading from my squier.
A friend keeps trying to convince me to get a "real fender", but I would prefer to have a compressor and delay. He keeps saing that practicing on the squier is holding me back, but I don't know if that's really the case
Should I continue to abstain until I'm good enough? I've been playing three years now and I'm not that great in my opinion
>>
>>68955594
Your friend is an idiot.
You'll also be an idiot if you listen to your friend.
>>
>>68955594
go to a store, try a "real fender", see if you play better or not
also try some not fenders because some stuff might feel amazing in your hands just because of specs, some people like 9.5" radius while some other like 16" radius for example

>>
>>68954008
Was pretty much the same for me. Was even playing sixteenth note triplets during bass solos or bass and guitar unisons with ease. I play with a pick though and if you're starting from zero I really recommend you do finger technique also.
>>
>>68955879
if you're on a really bad guitar, the argument stands, I play better on most guitars because mine is absolute garbage and you have to fret/play precisely because otherwise a bee swarm invades the amp. But past a certain point, it doesn't impact playing.
One thing a better guitar will do though is reliability, having a guitar that won't fuck up mid gig is a huge benefit.

>>68955938
Even for barre chords and extended wankery, I prefer flat fretboards, it's just too cramped.
I can see why people like it

they're okay. one of the nicest Squiers. I bought a JM and hated it, though. they're not for everyone but so many people into 90s rock think they need one. you'll realize they're terribly heavy and have very little sustain. also the colors of the JMJM are heinous. just my opinions. it's not a bad guitar.

>>68955594
go get your Squier set up at a shop. also buy the pedals you want. I started on a shitty Squier and it did start to hold me back only because I no longer thought it was cool as I did when I was 12 and I didn't play as much.
>>
>>68956379
>they're not for everyone but so many people into 90s rock think they need one.

Honestly, they should just buy Telecasters.

I remember when all the indie faggots played nothing but Telecasters and semi-hollow Dots and Casinos.

I don't get where they got the fucking idea to turn offsets into a meme.
>>
>>68956406
I agree, that's why I play a Tele. Sometimes wish I had a Strat or an Ibanez S series w/ a Floyd, though.

Jazzmasters are such a shit design but people just have to jump on the dumb indie bandwagon. They'll all insist they need the unique pickup sound, though of course they don't because it sucks.

pick up a book that has a lot of finger exercises and work through all of them. or youtube same.

learn a different genre of music than you usually play. if you mostly do pick, try fingerstyle. you will find that when you go back around to your usual stuff you will have picked up lots of new ways to smooth out your playing.

I got the 2nd board from a friend like 2 weeks ago who said he didn't need it anymore, so I just have it set up currently that is the most comfortable for me. Also can't really fit the G3X on one board with the amount of cable length I currently have.

it makes for an extra control that is often unnecessary
also for a more complicated design

chinks can't weld more than three wire at one time so adding a coil split would divide their profit by half

we usually get about $100 from bar shows and make about another hundred per show from merch. House shows sell a lot more merch but you get less for playing unless you drove a ways.

Do you hold the pick tight? It sounds like you have a solid touch, what you do for the picking
>>
>>68961048
Thanks.

I've switched back and forth between using several different picks. My favorites are Fender Heavies, Dunlop 208 Jazztones, and Jazz III's, but I usually end up coming back to the Jazz III's.

As for the technique, I hold my pick between the side of my forefinger and my thumb, I don't squeeze it too tight, I think, but I choke up on it quite a bit and use more of my wrist and maybe a little bit of arm when picking accented beats.

I guess I've done a fair amount of practicing scales using different subdivisions of beats, like accenting the first note in groups of 3, 4, or 6. I think that's helped my playing shape up a bit.

I'm building a pedalboard, these are some pedals I'm currently considering getting:
Earthquaker Afterneath
Earthquaker the Depths
Boss DD-5
8-bit duck (if I can find one)

And I currently own these:
BOSS OD-3
BOSS CS-3
MXR analog chorus
BOSS OC-3 (planning on selling, I never use it)

Any recommendations? Especially stuff similar to the 8-bit duck, it's a cool effect
>>

I've heard nothing but bad stuff about the Duck. If you want synthy fun shit go for an Earthquaker Bit Commander.

I meant quality, the original ducks would short out and fry and since the guy was just selling them off his garage he offered no warranties.

Still doesn't on those last few ducks that were released, IIRC.

I currently play a short scale Epiphone V bass (pic related). I find myself reaching for my strings about three inches lower than the bridge because it feels more natural. If I lengthen my strap to compensate for that, I find myself cramping my hand trying to hit certain frets due to the angle of the neck. If i get a full scale, like an EB-3, T-40, or p bass, would my problems be solved?
>>
>>68962154
And it's cheaper too... hmm...

>>68962264
This doesn't seem like a short scale issue to me. The V strap button is in a place that shifts the bass in a funny way. The length of the neck shouldn't offset the bridge by much. Watch the Scott's bass video on posture sitting and standing.

If you're playing scales with your fingers that straight, curl your fingers more. Also, consider putting your thumb above the neck for fast stuff. Playing with it behind the neck is "proper", but can be less comfortable. Also,

sansamp makes two pedals that any bassist can stand by as pre-amps or dirt boxes: the BDDI and the VT Bass

>>68973480
Nice guitar. I have the Micro Terror through a Bugera 1x12, you'll need a good OD pedal and some EQ pedal if you want more precise tones, scooped mids, etc. I use the ST-2 and I'm looking for an EQ pedal to give me more option, since the ST-2 only has bass and treble boost/cut. I'd look at other amp heads though, if you could get more money.
>>
>>68973480
I assume metal or rock is what your going for? A 1x8 is not going to be much quieter than a 1x12, and your losing a lot of bass by going with a 1x8 which is crucial for rock and metal. A 1x12 will give you a tighter low end and just sound better and fuller overall.

you could get the Bugera G5 + 112TS(my cab), though many people shit on bugera, but they seem very nice amps for the price, the G5 has reverb, the infinium valve life extender, FX loop, full EQ and an attenuator down to 1 or .1W.

I'd still suggest you to get a nice OD pedal to push the amp.

Save up and buy good stuff. Lemmy once said: "Only the best will do!". Remeber, better invest in something nice than buy and resell later. Suffering is temporary, but a good amp will last years and years.

I'm a jazzmaster faggot. I didn't want it to be this way, but it is
Now should I get the special edition white opal for the humbuckers + coil tap? Or should I go for the 60's lacquer to have the rhythm circuit?
I use the rhythm circuit a lot right now for tapping, but I dont have anything with humbuckers

I've started debating putting something in the last U of my rack. Maybe a pre-amp unit or a compressor, but I'd like it to be a rack because I'm getting really tired of pedals. I already have to use a pedal for the lights and a pedal for my vocal, and I was using a chorus and VT Bass as well but I am just bad at operating pedals on the fly; I don't shoegaze, I like to move

Compressor will give you more noticeable effect in that setup.

I don't think I follow

He recommends buying and (...swirling? like the god-awful fedora paintjobs?) an unfinished instrument, rather than choosing either of the guitars you mentioned.

I'd recommend the one with humbuckers, but that's just what I'd prefer with having tried neither.

Oh, I should have specified this has nothing to do with the finishes, I don't care much about that
Thanks friend, and check'd

this is gonna seem weird but this is where I should post it I think. I've been playing guitar for about half a year now, and I'm loving it, but it's making my fingers smell like bagels. Does anyone else have this problem? How do you get rid of it? Am I just having a stroke?

Use a higher res picture of a guitar as your source, and do something about that aliasing. Really good concept, I dig it.

I think you're maybe talking about the metallic smell from the strings but you can't rule out brain damage.
>>
>>68975541
No i just ate with my hands and my fingers dont smell anymore. It definitely smells like bagels, not metal. After playing any guitar, as well.

I have no idea on rack compressors. The MXR pedal is the usual standard for pedals. Maybe check and see if they make a rack version?
>>
>>68975636
don't worry about that, anon. it's called "tone-bread"
>>
>>68975288
What kind of strings are you using? Also, do you wash your hands before playing?
>>
>>68975914
D'addario, and sometimes. But I always was my hands after I eat bagels.

The 1176 rack compressors were the studio standard for quite a long time. Urei used to make them back in the 70s and now Universal Audio sells an updated version of the 1176. You gotta be able to afford them though. If not, you can always go for the one of the many repros that currently exist on the market.

Why do people expect others to be able to play scales immediately and from memory but not modes? Why is it generally accepted that like Scales > Modes? Why?
