It's Burgerstanian Election Day.

The point of these threads is to encourage people to look for new and interesting music. We do this by listening to and ideally discussing albums we've never heard before. Many of us already listen to new music daily, these people are in it to venture "out of their comfort zone" by listening to albums they otherwise wouldn't have, or just to have a good time.

Trump is horrible, but it's still not okay to report 90% on how horrible he is and what a saint Hillary is. There's almost no reporting on the stuff Hillary has done that are shit, but a bunch of articles that defend her actions have been posted. It's incredibly biased, which is pathetic since it's state owned media that is supposed to be as neutral as possible.

I don't think I've seen a single article on Trump that wasn't clearly trying to paint him in a bad way.

First, /v/irgins should all be lined up and shot.

Secondly, all those "cool underground scenes" you romanticize were "SJW". All the people in those scenes were all anti-capitalist, pro-LGBT, etc. Those views were simply less accepted back then. Do you think a Trump presidency would suddenly make those opinions edgy again? All a Trump Presidency will do is inspire a bunch of shitty protest songs by those very underground stars you idolize.

No Wave scene was all leftists
LA Punk scene was all leftists
New York Hardcore was all leftists
UK Punk and Post-Punk was all leftists
Coldwave was all anti-communist, but they were still leftists

Using Nazi imagery for shock value or holding a couple non-progressive views (like some Punks being trans/homophobic) does not make you a non-leftist.

Isolated cases like Skrewdriver don't count either.

I think these people have always existed, but didn't realize that they could organize. Now the internet exists (and is mainstream), and they're much more capable of organizing. Also terrorism in developed countries and associated fear mongering from the media has increased. I'm sure there are many more reasons.

Also is anyone listening to any good music around here?

I'm currently enjoying Dots and Loops. I avoided Stereolab for a while, I think because I heard an album by them that I didn't like. This is a good one tho. I always had a soft spot for '60s muzak, I like their take on it.

I don't think these people have always existed. A lot of people in Sweden have "converted" to voting for SD, and they're gaining more votes every election. There's clearly a driving force making people want some change - whether that's social developments, a dissatisfaction with current politics, or just plain fearmonger is what's interesting.

I think Donald Trump has a decent chance of winning not because he's converted a lot of democrat voters but because Trump supporters have rallied each other to go vote while many of them usually would probably not. There's a huge untapped market in non-voters that could really challenge predictions which would likely be based on regular voters, I guess.

I almost hope he will win because I want to see the reactions of everyone at my university, since they're more or less unequivocally leftists.

I just came up with a great response to that but I clicked the cunting home button by mistake.

Anyways to sum it all up: No Wave was also a response to popular commercialized music, as alot of the bands directly deconstructed said genres. We could use a deconstruction of all of the indie "punk" bands today who only care about the punk aesthetic. Like this:

Music production is getting democratised and decentralised. There are no scenes anymore and it would take a lot more than Trump getting elected to create a political, social and economic landscape that would make their development possible. Everything is completely isolated by access, so these musical "revolutions" and "deconstructions" (not to go into why all that's absolute garbage) will likewise happen in isolation.

While I don't think Trump alone will cause a serious revival of serious extremely left wing movements (read: people who are actually into socialism/anarchism/etc., not tumblr uses with an A tattooed on their bicep), his influence on the Supreme Court might be enough to make America very conservative again for a couple decades. Four years of an orange dude isn't enough to inspire some serious radical anti-cap stuff, but a few decades of it will.

>>68964623

Mainstream media is mostly consumed by tumblr-progressives who prefer convenient lies or deceit. Though you might see a revival of more conservative media if the people in charge decide that the way this election went means that right leaning people are a more profitable demographic to pander to.

Here's a quick outline of likely US shit:
>Donald Trump doesn't actually get anything done in the first few months—maybe forces the SC appointment, if even that
regardless
>Markets crash around the world tomorrow, probably sluggish for a few months after, but might rebound immediately as investors get over themselves
>US bonds are downgraded in the next few weeks as Donald Trump injects uncertainty into US security, probably downgraded to AA+ or even AA
>Yellen might actually bump up interest rates, or slow QE, bumping up LT rates—either way, the economy would really slide then
>I don't think Yellen's retarded though, and the economy sliding after Trump's victory would signal delayed rate hikes
>Foreign investment in the US probably increasingly slows, as treasury rating downgrades discourage foreign money-parking in real estate
>Maybe actually consumer spending ticks up this holiday season, as more people are generally encouraged by what is, to them, favorable election results
And in IR:
>TPP probably fails (maybe good riddance, I don't know the specifics too well), and because of this, China will eventually overtake the US completely
>Other nations will not waste this opportunity in newfound perceived weakness abroad, I expect LT, albeit subtle international relations changes—this is not my area of expertise though—but this stuff takes months if not years to manifest

>>68964744
I'd be really surprised if WA and NH, not that it makes a difference

This. All these alt-right wannabe-nazi fucks are gloating about having it in the bag, but the Donald isn't going to live up to any of his promises. They're getting played by a demagogue and they don't even realize it. He'll have an unremarkable term where he and congress disagree on everything. Nothing will get done and no practical legislation will be passed.

Fuck man, this whole election has been awful. All of the candidates have been fucking idiots, Jeb was ineffectual, Bernie was impractical, Hillary is a blatant criminal, and Donald is a snake oil salesman.
>>
If Hillary wins, btw—though I won't hold my breath—expect a lot of the opposite or just inaction where there's action.
>Hillary gets nothing done first few months—maybe forces the SC appointment, if even that

>Markets dip a bit, residue from Dow futures crash tonight
>US bonds don't get downgraded bc Moodies, S&P, and Fitch have no reason to
>Yellen definitely bumps rates in the next few months since the market can take it, probably LT healthier for US economy
>Foreign investment in US still slows, at constant rate tho
>Consumer spending is probably flat, once again
And in IR:
>nothing changes
>I expect Hillary will rebrand and hopefully restructure TPP to be more favorable to US interests, but stick with it because she's not retarded

>>68964851
>TPP would basically erase the concept of a middle class and force working class people to be buttsluts to private industry
That's parroting fear-mongering and I hope you know that
>giving footloose corporations tons of power internationally
But hey, at least they'd be American companies. TPP's end goal is to defend against Chinese economic influence exerted upon the pacific region. Much like the whole dumb "only way to be tormenters is to offer them a better service" argument, TPP promises better trade deals than China, and locks countries into it. The execution, as I said, I'm not too specific on, and is probably is as flawed as it appears on the surface, but the end goal is admirable, if not necessary for continued LT US economic prosperity.

Elvis Presley - Elvis Presley (1956)
>rock & roll

I find it hard to believe that this was rebellious music at one point in time. It's just so damn polite, for lack of a better word. The rock & roll tracks might be energetic and fast-paced, but they're still so pleasant sounding and polite, almost to a fault. They at least have some positive characteristics with their energy and sheer conviction, but the ballady love-songs are just bad through and through. They're so plain boring and unremarkable, and Presley's voice is too well-suited to rock & roll to carry them. "Blue Moon" may be a great, haunting song, but the rest is so remarkably unremarkable.

Sarah Vaughan - Sarah Vaughan (1955)
>vocal jazz, standards

Ridiculously pleasant and charming. Not much to say about this one, but Vaughan is a lovely vocalist and she carries these tracks wonderfully, adding her own spin on these classic standards. A bit flaccid musically, which is what's to be expected from this kind of vocal jazz, and it gets sluggish pretty quickly, but it's really good at what it wants to do, and it's perfect for the Christmas feels I'm starting to feel.

3.0-

Jeanne Lee With Ran Blake - The Newest Sound Around (1962)
>vocal jazz, avant-garde jazz

I like Lee's Conspiracy quite a bit, so it's shocking to me how much I really don't care for this. Lee's vocals are still great, but Blake's piano just saunters around a lot with no clear direction in sight, and the tracks feel absolutely aimless as a result. This can be done well, but the compositions here are really half-baked, and totally inconsquential. A haunting enough atmosphere is created, and I can see why this is seemingly so well loved, but I just can't get into it.

>Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure

Somehow, Roxy Music manages to blend some of the worst elements of 70s rock into one thoroughly mediocre album. The anxious singing, proggy instrumentation and a glammy atmosphere. While I’m fine with most of the elements on their own, the combination on here is just brutal. And the saxophone on here feels schmaltzy, sleazy and unoriginal and really dominates the entire album. Pretty disappointed by this one desu, not my style at all.

>John Lennon - Plastic Ono Band

It’s actually a bit remarkable how bland this is. As one of the highest ranked albums on RYM, I was expecting a lot more. This whole album sounds like that song James Hurley sings in Twin Peaks (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rq8bHVSCqN0) if it were sung in the 70s. It’s just overloaded with waves and waves of reverb and it doesn’t suit John’s voice as much as it did during his run with the Beatles. In moderation, it’s a lot better. The songs feel uninspired and rambling despite only being pretty average length. And “God” is just… ugly. Though I will say “Working Class Hero” and “Isolation” were pretty good. Expected better from such a highly regarded album though. I never was big on Lennon though.

>Eric B & Rakim - Follow The Leader

“Paid in Full” gets all the credit and is incredibly influential, but this album might actually be better. Rakim is somehow improves as a lyricist and the production is so much better. Rakim uses most of this album to just fucking tear through the beats with his rapid-fire flow, but it results in less catchy songs. It’s ridiculous that this was released in ‘88, this is a level of lyricism that really reminds me of someone like Nas, it’s really far ahead of its time. He still isn't the best at hooks though.

This would be better but Rakim rarely takes a break from showing off his flow. Hearing the back-to-back-to-back rhymes, while impressive, gets a bit old after awhile. And a few production moments sound a bit dated. Otherwise, this is good shit. Better than I was expecting, honestly.

FOUR

MORE

FUCKING

YEARS

Of shitty anti-trump songs

Imagine: Four more years of the equivalent of Le Tigre's "I'm With Her"s getting BNMs and countless press for saying exactly what everyone else is. Half a decade of "American Idiot"s will receive endless praise.

Anyways, it's entirely the DNC's fault. No one else's. Except maybe /pol/ for memeing so hard they accidentally a president.

My life probably won't change much from this outcome (unless we get nuked, but that most likely was gonna happen anyways), but I love plenty people whose lives most likely will, and that fills me with great sadness.

What can you do though? I've got a pretty big paper to write in all Japanese. So I'll see you tomorrow /daily/!
>>
I can't believe it, we're about to live in a world where Donald Trump is President.

This is something you can tell your grandchildren about, assuming humanity survives.

I wont pretend this isn't a spooky abstract concept happening but fuck it, take a step back and realize this might be good for politics in every way assuming trump wont blow everyone up.

People all across the world just saw this year wit both brexit and this that they don't need to vote for the status quo and insane alternatives are viable to chose and its not just rightists options all around either. all the back stabbing Bernie bots who gave up without a fight might actually realize now they did stand a chance after all and the defeatism was uncalled for.
Tons of people have already made that point, Trump winning means both the American system getting fucked in the ass which objectively is a good thing and possibly the re-emergance of the non-meme left.

Plus even if I'm wrong just embrace it and just live the meme. I'll enjoy it even just from a historical standpoint.

We're about to enter four years of advanced memeing. Meme historians will dedicate whole volumes to these years. There will probably be poetry, feature films, and serious analysis by future meme enthusiasts. In the not-yet-made Museum of Fine Memes, these will be considered the golden years for the highest level of memery.

What a time to be alive.

Personal experience my man, all the americans I know who were hardcore Bernie fans after he started losing went ahead and started posting shit like "bernie was never a candidate he was a symbol" and just campaigning against trump forgetting bernie all along.

I know the overall view is that most Bernie folks were insanely involved, but from personal experience they didn't even want to talk the DNC rigging possibility because it could help Trump.

>>68966275
Don't go with the straight white male shtick faggot, not a good way to get people to listen to your points. I think I'm quite clearly saying that this was a giant gamble and it could fuck massive amounts of people up white brown or green. Besides, the reason it doesn't affect me directly is cause I'm not a burgertard :^)

You're right however about that this could spark a lot of violence amongst violent hick assholes in the US (but possibly also disgruntled violent liberals). Assholes find any reason to fuck shit up, especially with shit like this.
