"u/georgesanders received his drawing in the mail and it was a little different than those on the Neutral Milk Hotel site. This one actually spells out "Double Album" at the top if you go upwards.

Also, as someone pointed out, this one (https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0706/6455/products/drawing1v1.jpg?v=1476066842) on the site says "Double" at top and "LP" upside down under the faces.

EDIT: In case anyone missed the other clues from all the drawings so far from my previous post, here's a quick roundup of some of the most notable ones:

- The purchase page descriptions refer to the art as "steganography", which is in and of itself 'the practice of concealing messages or information within other nonsecret text or data.'

- There's a lot of "1st" "2nd" "3rd" spheres. The "1st" and "2nd" have only 1 ring (single albums). The "3rd" one has two rings and the word "double" appears a lot too.

- 'Magicicada cassini' is a locust that appears every 17 years and is due to return in 2017 in Northern Georgia. "Cassini Huygens" is a spacecraft that was sent out about 18 years ago and is expected to end its mission in 2017."

Love it or hate it, the album (and to an extent NMH) is our signature, our calling card on the internet. We declared it a masterpiece. When NMH3 drops, and if (if) is as good or even ITAOTS, we rebuild /mu/core and move on to better music discussions

I'm disappointed in what this board has become. Making newfags genuinely like MPP, turning Fantano from a comfy Youtube channel to a walking meme with teeth, tolerance of bottom tier music like trap hip-hop without justification to why the music is actually great, and more others that posters better than me will point out.

If (if, still skeptical about the existence and quality of NMH3), we make a collective decision to sage and ignore shit threads and subjects. If I see another motherfucker post shit like Lil Yachty or whatever "bubblegum" trap is in, he'll get a stern paragraph with some biscuits

i remember 2011 when aeroplane was just starting to creep into /mu/, all the avant-teens flocked to it.. slowly it became more and more popular and then in 2013 it became a full blown meme. now, in 2016, even girls who like lana del rey and melanie martinez know of neutral milk hotel.

of course, though, this doesn't affect nmh in the slightest sense. don't let fans or popularity affect your view or expectation on anything /mu/! if no new nmh music comes, i'll be disappointed, but i understand.

keep in mind that jeff mangum is a recluse. emails exchanged reveal he's had many nervous breakdowns, ya? he's a human, don't view him through a celebrity lens. he's genuinely mentally ill.

I'll admit that itaots has better and more memorable horn sections, even though Avery Island/April 1st comes close, and it's more "cohesive" if you really think that's an intrinsic plus, which I do not. And OAI is thematically cohesive too, anyways.

But OAI is, in my opinion, more interesting timbre wise, especially in tracks like Marching theme, Avery Island/April 1st, and Pree's Sisters. OAI is better lyrically, it has some of Jeff's best lyrics, just listen to Song Against Sex, A Baby for Pree, Where You'll Find me Now, Naomi, and April 8th. OAI has some very tasteful use of synths. They just subtly add depth to tracks like Where You'll Find me Now and Avery Island/April 1st. And what itaots tracks can compare to Gardenhead, Naomi, or Pree's Sisters?

What does itoats have? It has Untitled, which is a goat track, a much more conservative use of fuzz, and a lot of the fuzz it does have is from clipping, which is interesting, but in the end, the fuzz is replaced with clean acoustic guitars strumming arguably boring chord progressions, which means tracks like s/t, two headed boy pt. 1 and pt. 2, and Oh Comely are forced to be carried by either vocals, lyricism or other instrumentalism, and it just happens that those tracks are pretty bad (besides THB Pt. 2), especially Oh Comely. Even so, Oh Comely placement in the album makes up for it, and the album ends on a really hot streak, but it's still not enough to match the entire second half of OAI.

Compositionally, they're both simple, but we don't really listen to NMH for compositional complexity, do we.

There both good though, and the early tapes are great too. And we all know that The Music Tapes are the goats of E6
