So I just got this pedal and since I previously saw that some people here have it, could you share some settings?

I dialed this setting in and it works fairly well everything and it can get thick too.

>>68365962
My dad bought this in 1995 for I think like 1800 dollars(maybe a bit more). I don't think it's overpriced, it's built better than cheaper guitars I have(Les Paul studio, MIM Strat, LP Junior) and you can get a lot of different sounds out of it if you play around with the tone enough.

Though I wouldn't spend 4k on a PRS or anything ridiculous like that. Rather get a Luthier to make a guitar for that kind of money.

>>68365942
I like it. Though, I prefer the fact mine doesn't have any birds.

The finish on pick related is pretty thicc but it's barely been played since it was bough 10 years ago. Just rediscovered it in my closet a few days ago.

i think its standard internal settings for the knob would get some really melty live sounds, but doesn't sound good above the bottom 4 strings nor for riffs

i adjusted the two internal knobs (basically flipped positions) and got a more traditional fuzz which sounds much clearer in recording and I can actually decipher notes.

I bought a Gould les paul eagle, its a white les paul custom style guitar, but a bit of a thinner middle to avoid copyright.

Bought it for £120, build quality is great, better than that of epiphones Ive had (florentine not included, a bit of a dark horse, that one)

The shit aspects was the finish quality (doesnt bother me desu even my gibson LP had finish issues, tch) and the hardware quality, having swapped out for gotoh hardware and some tasty duncans, this thing sings. Even wired in the pups so the middle position gives that otu fo phase sound.

Cheap guitars are awesome, if you don't get a dud. I recently cleaned up a squire strat for a friend fo mine and the quality fo it was superior to an old MiM fender I had, so I think some cheap guitars are real gems, if youre lucky enough to find one.
>>
>>68367048
indeed. i was checking out a squier cv strat today (so basically the same model line, just a strat instead of a tele), put it in tune, played it for 5 minutes, and it sounded ok. i gave each string a big 3 step bend at the 12th fret, checked the tuning again and it was totally shot to shit.

whereas on my tele i can play for hours, put the guitar away overnight, and the next day it needs just the tiniest fraction of a turn back into tune - like it's still in the green area of the tuner, but its not quite 100%. the only thing i dont like is that when im sitting down to play the fucking body swell (where the 2nd cutaway would be on a strat) is jabbing me right in the fucking sternum and it makes my chest sore >:{ thats why im looking into a strat, because i find theyre much more comfortable to play. next stop is a mim hss used strat. also the tele has a pine body and weighs about 10 lbs lol

test your guitars people!
>>
>>68367202
Yep! The MiM strat I had seemed to always de-tune itself even after blocking the trem arm, rather upsetting because as i recall the intonation was perfect, playing chords up past the 12th fret and having them sound perfect was blissful.

I bought the epiphone florentine after playing it in store, owned a lot of guitars and this thing was incredible to play but what sold me was the sound it made, has a real fucking tasty punch to it, made me feel like i was malcolm young so i had to have it.

>lets ignore the fact I couldnt stand the colour and so turned it into a Frankenstein looking fucker.

Also forgot to add, I've never had a tele! I played a G&L one, my god it was beautiful, arched top, red transparent lacquer, flamed top. Was wonderful but really only good for rock riffing, sounded a bit lack luster without large amounts of gain. yet i didnt notice any discomfort, migth be because I didnt play ti for long enough periods. Only time Ive found that is when playing acoustics, the body is just so cumbersome you cant lay back and noodle aimlessly in comfort.

>>68367493
I had pic-related some years ago, I think they're good guitars myself /mu/ just hates on everything and anything. Although the pups, imho, were a bit shit, the build quality was superb for a guitar like this, especially at the price. (no birds means you get a PRS for fuck all money)

i'm wanting to get into bass guitar but i'm not entirely sure what kind of guitar i want. i really want a six string and i've found some really good priced squire vintage modified VIs on reverb.com for 350-400 bucks. it's sort of at the end of my budget but i don't think i could get a better price for a six string bass (and it still be pretty decent ofc). but recently i found out about the epiphone goth thunderbird and the thunderbird body just makes me cream myself every time i see it. the thunderbird is also at a slightly better price point; 300 bucks brand new.

also, i'm going to do the same thing that i did for my guitar rig where i made my own cabinet after ordering some speakers online. thing is i can't find many resources on what bass speakers sound great. i have celestions for my guitar rig and they sound great so i assumed that their CELESTION BN12-300S would be pretty good, but the price is a bit steep so i'm a bit unsure.

the sound i'm going for is sort of fuzzy, bluesy, and doomy. also, if anyone wants to shoot me any recommendations for any bass+drum two piece bands, especially in the stoner or doom range of things please do so. i recently got into a few different bass+drum duos and the sound is great.

I've played the one I owned (obviously) a newer SE and an american custom 24, the american custom was immaculate, not a single thing wrong with it in terms of aesthetic, Gibson could learn a thing or two.
Even the quality on the newer SE was impressive, but then again they do cost a fair bit more than your average epiphone and mim fender.. There's nothign I can think of that was really off putting about any of them, other than the bridge pickup on both my old SE and the newer SE was a bit shit.

I really want to try an s2 and I have extreme GAS for the se 277 semi-hollow baritone.

IMO six string basses suck; the neck width is too damn wide and I can't be as effective as I can on a 4 string.

You mean on the fretboard? I don't know if there's a type of paint that can hold and withstand the abuse. It might work if you varnish the fretboard after applying paint though.

How long did it take you to collect those and how expensive do they get? Yeah, it's a 6 string and 12 string. My parents bought it for when they would get asked to play Stairway To Heaven at weddings(for cheap, mind you). It needs work done on it but it's pretty. Here's a pic.

I'm not sure if I'd wanna go for Single or double cut shape with the Luther. Choices, choices...

Sup /gg/. Is a single band parametric eq, such as pic related, suitable for pre distortion voicing? Or do I need more bands? If my theory is correct I can use a parametric to change the output curve of my guitar's pickups to something more suitable for the distortion style I'm after.

from left to right;
BYO guitar kit, bout £200 ( not including the price of stains, tools, glue etc)

Gould eagle les paul custom £120
+ gotoh hardware £40
+ duncan pups £150 ish

epiphone florentine pro £419

vintage v100 that died, turned into an experimental thing. £95

Vintage v100 from when I started playing; £120 back in the day.

The old vintage has the lowest action on any guitar I've ever owned, but the pickups are bollocks. Loved the epi so much I mutilated it, the gould shits all over a gibbo LP I used to own in both sound and feel. The BYOguitar is surprisingly good quality wood for the price, was a piece of piss to assemble and with all the stock bits it sounds good, I use that in place of strats / teles because it gives me good twangy tones.

/gg/ I've been trying to find an answer to this question but haven't had any luck is there a big difference in sound quality on nicer amps compared to tiny low wat amps? I have this Fender Frontman 15g my brother gave me I've only been playing a couple of months so I haven't gotten a quality amp yet, but something I think I picked up on was the quality of the sound from my amp compared to my brothers. It just sounds like everything is smoother compared to mine. I also noticed that pedals don't sound as nice on my amp as they would on a nicer amp. Am I fucking crazy? I'm thinking of buying a Messa Boogie with a cabinet unless there is better equipment you guys would rec.

If we're talking amps with integrated speakers, there are two obvious ways bigger is better: you need big speakers for good bass response and more speakers mean you can have a big one for the bass and smaller ones for mediums/highs, which helps to eliminate distortions that arise when you force a speaker to vibrate in lots of frequencies at once.

There oughta be more stuff, especially when it comes to electronics, but those are the basic ones.
>>
>>68370590
>>68370678
If your question is "do nicer amps sound better" then you have much bigger problems on your hands than amps
>>
now I want this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1IpkAcF1KM
>>
>>68370590
the difference is much more than just wattage.
what you have is a beginners amp, thats solid state. very cheap, and sounds cheap. now by nicer amps i'm going to assume you mean full tube amps, tube amps to just about everyone's ears sound much more alive and musical than a solid state amp. so the difference between tube and solid state is probably what you are hearing, and on top of that your frontman isn't even that good of a solid state amp.
the jump to a mesa is a very big one, there are a bunch of amps you can get for under 1k that sound great, is there a particular tone you're looking for?
>>
>>68370773

>>68370711

>>68370590
that amp you have is fucking wank, Ive owned one, there are some really good solid state amps out there that cost a fraction of a mesa and a lot of valve amps also.

I use a fender superchamp x2, has a tube preamp and solid state post fx on it, or some shit like that, all I know is for 15w its bloody loud.
>>
>>68370711
Yeah if you like Filtertrons then sure. Try them first though as they have a very distinct sound and aren't as versatile as humbuckers and P90s IMO. Also the Gretschs I tried had huge deep bodies and felt weird to me.

I personally love Gibson/Epi despite their fatal design flaws.
>>
>>68370845

>>
>>68370885
there's nothing wrong with wanting to own a head and cab stack, I think every guitarist would have one in their home if they could get away with it, there's a unique appeal to them over combos.

Your best bet is to try as many different amps as you can, what I've found is marshalls, oranges and fender amps all have distinct sounds that only their brands tend to have. (excluding pedals and other effects, on about the sound of the amp from clean to driven)
It helps to find one that matches the kind of sound you're after then tweak that tone with pedals etc.

Even if you're unable to try a bunch there's a lot of videos on youtube where they mic the amps up properly to give you a good idea.

well, as others have already said just try out a bunch of amps and find one that sounds good to you. just dont get an amp solely for its dirty/distorted tones, finding a good clean sound is more important as there's always pedals for distortion/fuzz, theres no pedal for a good clean tone

not him, but what I would recommend is learn a few scales over tabs, otherwise you'll be "that guy" who can only play other peoples stuff.

Then work to apply your scales knowledge into existing songs, you'll be able to "solo" over them in the right key, then discovering songs yourself through trial and error comes mroe naturally cause you have a rough idea where the note youre trying to figure out should be positioned, if that makes sense.

I got pic related off craigslist recently for $300 and love it personally.

While there is such a thing as a high quality low wattage amp (with corresponding price), most of them are cheaply made to fit the price point desired by the amateur bedroom practicers who are in the market for that sort of thing.

Every once in a while there are diamonds in the rough though. Little amps that, despite being made cheap and slapdash, do actually sound great. Rare but it happens.

Mah nigga, if I knew I wouldn't be struggling right now. Based on my attempts what I can tell you is:
- Knowing some theory(chords built on thirds, or at least triads, basic scales and shit) helps you to make educated guesses.
- If you're into it, vidya music (like SNES generation and such) can be great to practice on. The "instruments" have simpler waveforms, less layered than "real" music too.
- Some will call it cheating and it's not very reliable but when all else fails I just whip out my tuner and "read" the notes out of a spectrogram of the song.

Not the anon you are replying to but yes, that's the idea.

There is value to being realistic about what your goals with an instrument are, though. If you really do have aspirations of being a pro some day then it is definitely in your best interests to grind out theory as best as you are able as early as possible. If, on the other hand, you're just playing to have fun and have no intention of writing anything or making money money with music in future, you can deemphasive theory in your practice to a point. Learn some of it -don't learn zero!- just not as focused on it as you would if you are serious business and wanna be serious business musician and composer.

>Get chord
>Play root note
>Play up the major or minor scale to the second note in the chord
>Let's say it's the third note in the major scale, from the root
>That's a major third
>Say the only other note is the eighth note in the scale
>That's the octave which is the same note as the root
>Therefore you have a major third chord

Very useful for being able to note voicing you like more literally, for future use in writing and the like.

Also, learning where octaves are is very useful

>Play major scale starting from 7th fret, 6th string
>Know where that the octave is on the 9th fret, 4th string
>Know that playing the exact same pattern on that spot will work just fine

Just spent a half hour trying to figure a way to make tablature/sheet music readable on my kindle without the plain text going all to hell from kindle's auto-formatting.

>open new blank pdf document
>set margins to 0.5in
>if document is text only just copy paste it in and adjust font and formatting as needed to be the same as original text document
>if there is text and images (in the case of sheet music) more format fiddling will be required

Put the pdf on e-reader and it SHOULD display exactly as formatted in the pdf document without anything going crazy.

I know a tablet would be easier for this but i don't wanna buy one just for this one use case.

wait a sec. sorry i deleted that post as it may be misleading.

According to this article it might be iffy due to insufficient gain:

The article says it works with a cloudlifter db boost but may be noisy.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF OLD BLOOD NOISE ENDEAVORS?

I think theyre kind of overrated, but i really REAlly like the art and im kind of debating getting either a reflector chorus or a mondegreen delay. I already have a vox delaylab though. I dont think ill need another delay, the mondegreen.

What do you guys think i should do?

Don't be that dude
>>
Okay I'm not sure if this is the right thread but I'd figure it better than starting another one.
I recently bought a jackson king v pro for $500(about $330 off). Just wanted something solid with great playability and I got that but I'm not digging the tone. It came with emgs and I didn't really want them but it was a great guitar for the price so I figured I'd try them out since I mostly play metal anyways.
They sound waaay to screachy/noisy and kind of make it hard to vary the sound of your playing.
I was thinking of just swapping them out for some seymore duncans(sb4 and jazz 59) but I don't want to be disappointed again.
The guitar with the closest ideal sound i own is a gibson faded sg but it's a baseball bat for a neck.
I use a marshall jvm 410h with no distortion/overdrive pedals and just a light touch of chorus.
Think they'll work out?
>>
>>68374979

also i kinda want to know if theyre worth it. theyre super hyped and the videos i see are really nice but i have a feeling theyre just basic fucking pedals

Is there any way someone can fix up a really complicated pedal like that? What are my chances at being able to fix it up?

Cheers

>>68375503
the same way everybody who plays an instrument in the violin family does.
>>
>>68370754
as somebody playing on a cheap amp, everyone hearing me play says I sound nice, but when I tried recording some playing it sounded like traffic, would a nicer amp help with that? Not that guy by the way, I'm also a beginner.
>>
>>68375511
when I was learning violin, my instructor actually used painter's tape to put lines on the fingerboard
>>
>>68375539
I took classical lessons in high school for bass. My teacher never did anything like that, and he never did anything like that with his other students on other instruments.

The trick with violin family instruments is that the the necks are much shorter, taking up a much smaller fraction of the fingerboard than instruments of the guitar family. Additionally the change in thickness occurs much faster on the shorter violin family necks.

All of this makes it easier for your muscle memory to tell where you are, as it's easier for your brain to divide the neck up into "positions" than it would be on a long guitar or bass neck of relatively uniform shape.

Obviously this only works in conjunction with good intonation, which comes from a trained ear.

Get a used hot rod Deville with 2x12 speakers. Grunge artists like Cobain and modern ones like Drenge and Charly Bliss still use them. A staple for garage punk would be to get a 70s Music Man amp for around the same price. Ty Segall and everyone in his band has one, John Dwyer of thee oh sees swears by them too. Go for around $500-$600 on the amp and the rest on pedals. You'll need a distortion/light fuzz and a reverb/delay

Shit nigger I just woke up early to catch it.
When I bought my first Kelly, I was so excited I had to wait for the brown UPS van from my balcony.
When he finally showed up it was like a bad youtube video. The guy double parked on a pedestrian crossing, opened his trunk while talking on the phone, picked up a small package with his free hand and started going the opposite direction with a FUCKING LIMP. Twenty minutes later, he comes back, just throw the undelivered package back inside and start reaching for my huge ass box while still talking on the phone.
He just leaves it in the middle of the street, turns around and I see the shit TILTING AND FALLING against the van. A 3k guitar. Pulls up a chariot to lift the box for 10 meters, rings my door and "package, come down and sign sir please".
He's the only UPS guy in my neighborhood it seems.

I'm pretty grateful none of the shippers have been shitty it's just the Hubs and delivery days. I did have a recent UPS guy deliver a 2x12 and I guess he was running behind so he left the truck running down the road and I guess delivered all packages on the street at once. He didn't have me sign and had another small box and a couple envelopes with him. He rang the doorbell and left as soon as I opened the door
>>
>>68376651
The 10" speakers aren't as loose as 12" so they sound tighter and punchier. This is bad for pedals you'll need like high distortion. Another thing about the Deluxe vs Deville is that you can get a mm extension cab that's 4ohms and connect it along with the Deville since the head portion is 2ohms. I've had a 6x12 for a couple gigs

Ridiculously overpriced. Like, bat shit insanely overpriced. And Paul Reed Smith is probably secretly a Jew because he does anything to get more money out of his already crazy overpriced shit by using the tone wood meme.
They use these retarded super rare exotic woods that don't make good guitar bodies and like some bizarre Chinese tree or some African tree that only grows in a certain place and say ">hurr durr it affects the tone. Tone woods are real and this rare wood you've never heard of makes your guitar sound better" as they charge you 10,000 dollars for it.
Fuck Paul Reed Smith. Fuck his Jewish tricks and fuck his overpriced meme guitars.

Anyone who says this has not gone through properlly tweaking the settings (including the internal knobs).
It can be a normal Big Muff but with added mids, which make it more viable for a band enviorment.
