I would like to open this thread to actually discuss how impressive this album actually is. The first two tracks are like taking sounds from nature and putting them through a machine. The dizzying effect on this record is sonically ahead of its time. I don't think there are any other experimental albums in the 2000s that even come close. Wolfgang Voight was really was reconstructing natural sounds to create his own world on the project. What do yall think of it. 3 sentences minimum.

Personally I find this album to be extremely overrated. Wolfgang Voight has a massive discography, even as Gas he has more than one album. But for some reason Pop is the only one that gets much mention. To me, Zauberberg and Königsforst have such a massive and interesting atmosphere to them, that makes it seem out of this world and somehow unhuman. Pop seems to me much smaller and gives off a more familiar feeling, if that makes sense. I really like how you described it though, "taking sounds from nature and putting them through a machine" is very accurate and how I feel as well.

Pop is still a really beautiful album just like the rest of Wolfgang Voight's works, I just find it strange that it's the album to gain the most respect.

I agree that his earlier work is much more atmospheric. Pop really does stand out to be more accessible in terms of sound. There isn't much of the hypnotic trance with the exception of the fourth track. I really like how he takes a different approach but maintains his stylistic spacey sound.

Same here. His vocal range is intolerable. While the lyrics are as poetic as ever and the production being superb, it remains dampened by Cohen's age and it's relationship to his voice.
