Hey /mu/sic,

Was having an argument with a friend about complexities and emotions in music?

He says no band except Tool can evoke strong emotions WHILE maintaining complexity in their music. What is your opinion on it?

Me personally, I couldn't give a shit about 127/8 time signature and things like that. For me, simple songs evoke strong emotions as well. I think it's absolute bullshit to say that simpler songs don't drive it home and make you fucking bawl. Here's a snippet of the conversation.

>Just because you use words like fibbonacci sequence and 17/8 time signatures makes it somehow objectively better? You don't enjoy songs with 4/4 time?
>I do enjoy. But enjoy is different from listening. It's a very serious thing at home for me .
>okay so you're tellin me you don't connect to music unless it's complex?
>I don't find the point in listening to 4/4 all the time. It's been overused

>pic unrelated

Hey /mu/, what are some of your favorite or essential prog rock song epics like pic related, Echoes, 2112, All The Seats Were Occupied etc? I'm making a spotify playlist.

Should be at least 9-10 minutes but preferably longer, also neo-prog welcome for suggestion even though I haven't heard much I liked.

The Frigid Stars LP came out in 1990.. that seems pretty early for a slowcore album but I don't know any of the history behind that realm of music. Can anybody provide earlier works?

FACT: Doolittle is so good, it causes people to massively overrate the rest of the Pixies discography

Doolittle= 10/10
Surfer Rosa= 8/10
Trompe le Monde= 5/10
Bossanova= 6/10
Indy Cindy + the rest of their "revival" albums= trash tier cash grabs/10

and Kim Deal wasn't even that hot

Doolittle is 9/10

The rest are 6/10

I don't really get the appeal of Doolittle, sure, Debaser is a great song though otherwise they all sound too similar, or at least similar to other artists. I could never really get into the Pixies much other than Surfer Rosa and a few tracks of each of their other albums (barring the revival albums, which I have yet to listen to). Can someone explain the appeal to me?
>>
Surfer Rosa is their best release. Prove me wrong
