It's crazy how both him and this guy have had so mich influence on some people's perception of music. He should just leave it be. His formula's gotten stale.

First of all, it's a combination of ~three old blues/folk tunes, Vastapol, That's No Way To Get Along, and Poor Boy. John Fahey is an excellent guitarist and follows the folk tradition perfectly, and was born late enough to record on quality equipment.
The song itself follows the generic 12 bar blues progression, but only really uses blue notes in the first chord of the progression (unless you count the dominant seventh in the V chord, which doesn't usually get picked anyways), meaning that the progression itself can start out bluesy but usually wraps itself back into into the very reserved-sounding IV chord, which sounds how it does because it's fingered and not barred. These are just the technical aspects of why I like the sound, anyone can "feel" what the song relates without having to know any of the theory behind it.
I spend probably about 15 minutes every day playing this song on my guitar, and have many of my own versions of it. I don't purposefully try to, but anytime I pick my guitar up I end up playing variations of it.
I remember the first time I heard it, I thought "when's he gonna start singing?"
>think I know a lot of music
>10 years later, the amount of music I know now makes the amount I knew then look tiny
>know I have still only collected a few drops of the waterfall of music
>a person doesn't live long enough to possibly discover and listen to all the music
>many of your favorite artists and albums you will simply never happen upon because you didn't have enough time
>tons of music made after you die could possibly be your favorite but you will be dead and never know

please respond to my 4chan thread
