Who's the best female bassist?
Probably Km Deal. Kim Gordon is better overall though, if you include songwriting and singing in the equation.
d'arcy or kim deal

Why do people listen to free jazz?
Why do people make free jazz?
Is free jazz even music? Or just a meme?
What's the difference between good free jazz and bad free jazz?
I'm so confused
Good free jazz has some kind of nuance. Preferably several kinds, technical ability, shape, overall contour, interplay between the musicians, all good examples of nuance.
Without nuance it's just noise. The vast majority of "free jazz fans" on /mu/ haven't realized this yet and just listen to whatever free jazz they think is the most chaotic and aggressive, probably because it comes the closest to the metal and rock that they'd rather be listening to.
Any kid can enjoy free jazz

You're right. I can see a little kid enjoy fast random silly noise.

Explain
>The majority of the album was written while lead singer/guitarist Nick Blinko was being detained in a psychiatric hospital under Section 3 of the 1983 Mental Health Act. The subject matter of the album relates to the delusions Blinko was experiencing at the time, particularly the idea that he was "Pope Adrian 37th" — a reference to Pope Adrian IV.

How about a question:

I don't think showing it to any of my favourite artists would be a good idea. Take those who would even appreciate noisy music, Masami Akita doesn't listen to noise besides the stuff he makes, he just hates it.
Enjoy the bandcamp threads with questions it offers much better content than people just posting links.

I would be way too intimidated to show the BoC brothers my music, but if I had to I would probably show them pic related since they might enjoy the aesthetic.
Also I have 80 CDs of t-Projection someone please take one off my hands I swear it's a fun and engaging listen the tracks are short which helps.

/prod/ i come to you with an unfinished song and a business idea™ (patent pending)
the song's pretty generic prog house but i really just want comments on the structure and production. how do i get the mids sounding less muddy and fill out the highs? also are the drums ok or should i add more thump?
the other idea i wanted to pitch is a revision on an old piece of gear: the drum pad. instead of buttons on a flat surface my design utilises the style of a bongo drum: velocity and location sensitive trapezoidal dome (pic related) and a set of 10 contact sensitive straps that go on your fingers. the straps are assignable to any input (kick, snare hats, etc) and the dome also has two assignable variables. hitting the very edge of the dome will produce a gated click-y version of the sound it's assigned to (usually snare), similar to a rimshot.
the user would usually assign both thumbs to kick and snare, depending on their dominant hand, and drum on the top surface of the dome; while using the fingers for hats, cymbals etc, and drumming on the side of the dome.
i always seem to have better rhythm tapping a random object with my fingers than actually using a drum pad so hopefully this bridges the gap between the two.

n.b. headphones recommended for the song
I've been messing with Logic for a few years now and I'm pretty comfortable with it but I want to start making some more sample-heavy stuff and I was told Ableton is way better for that sort of thing than Logic is
Is it worth learning a whole new piece of software? I love the Logic synths a lot so I would be sad about giving those up
