Can somebody explain to me why is Weezer rated so highly everywhere?

Their music is incredibly generic, and Buddy Holly is the first song that I have heard that makes me feel like I'm actually regressing in development and getting dumber.

What are /mu/'s thoughts on the music of Utopia?

I love the complexity of their works (especially on their first three albums), their desire to push things to their limits (like fitting one 30-minute song onto one side of vinyl), and most of all, the sheer musicianship ability of everyone in the group; Moogy Klingman, Kevin Ellman, and John Siegler all rank near the top in the all-time players of their respective instruments, in my opinion.
