Where should I start /mu/? And why?
A lot of people don't like her first album but I think it's pretty good. Different from the later stuff but still good.
You should start from the beginning, it won't take long.
>>73276329
Start with Apocalypse and see if yopu like it.
Her album of acoustics and B sides is pretty good place for a start as well.
was there ever a more perfect "modern rock" album?

What makes the residents so appealing to people despite their weirdness?
I notice that among this fold of musicians like early Pink Floyd, Residents, Zappa, Barret, and Beefheart. A lot of people like these musicians even if they're not the type of people to listen to "weird" music that much, and yet they ignore musicians like Animal Collective. Why is this? What makes bands like The Residents, Velvet Underground, and Zappa more appealing than later Radiohead and Animal Collective?
>>73275884
I think it has something to do with the character of the musics. I think people like the characters of early Pink Floyd, Residents, Zappa, Barret, and Beefheart more than Animal Collective and Radiohead. These characters are conveyed through lyrics, music, and even image. I like all of these groups, but I've barely listened to Animal Collective. Early Pink Floyd, Residents, Zappa, Barret, and Beefheart are all more raw and human than Radiohead and Animal Collective in studio production and composition also. The higher production quality of Animal Collective and especially Radiohead makes the music different as well. Early Pink Floyd, Residents, Zappa, Barret, and Beefheart are plainly weirder and more intense than Radiohead and Animal Collective as well. These three groups are also from another time and place and I think that this shows and actually does enhance the listening experience for us because of the otherworldliness which gives them added power.
>>73275884
I think a lot of it is to do with them being "classic" bands now, in a way. Due to how old they are and how their influence has spread they've become a part of musical history more than more recent bands like AnCo and Radiohead are, though I imagine in 20-30 years time Radiohead and AnCo and similar will be thought of in a similar way.
Pic posted is a great album to listen to on a hot summer day especially if your air conditioning isn't working.

Is there any other member of a band hated by that band's fans as much as Mike Love is by Beach Boys fans?
Phil Collins in Genesis, maybe?
>>73275792
>Not liking philly phil
>>73275792
Nah, Genesis fans hate Tony Banks. Phil Collins is just the butt of many jokes.
He's looking better edition. What do you guys think is his next stylistic step? What did you think of 30 seconds/common? Post koz favorites as well
either continue with stream-of-consciousness (e.g Common as Light)
OR
go down a depressive folk lane a la Giles Corey to induce every1 into suicide
>>73276405
it will probably be the latter actually, Im certain that he will do some really sad stuff down the line, I think Common as light was just a detour, but it was a good one at that
30 seconds is pretty nice, I was listening to it yesterday and I got the impression he used it as kind of a sketchpad while working on common as light. Also can't help myself from laughing at the fucking MJ diss track.
