So we can definitely all agree that Kanye West not only popularized industrial hip hop but he basically created it on his own?
I mean yeah Death Grips was a thing before him but come on it only sounds like messy garbage because thats literally what they play with nevermind the fact that mc ride flips through a dictionary choosing random words to rhyme with the line before, I'll give you an example "sapiosexual crucifixion, additions my addiction"

it's baseless. I've never seen someone actually provide evidence for this claim. Because there isn't any.

They didn't

>>73273063
no, but you see
they did

They did it by not just trying to emulate classic prog bands. They genuinely were inspired by genres outside of rock and they pulled it all together with their rock influences and created some fantastic music, similar to how the great 70s prog artists did it.

When I was in college my mom wrote an essay about how I should direct their music video in my behalf and I made it to the finals without knowing anything about music videos or the band so I shot a video of me and my idiot friends fucking around and smoking weed. "Hoobafucking cares man it's a music video" said one of them. Pretty cool.

Now that the dust has settled, what is the veredict on this album?

In my opinion, the instrumentation is sorta summery at times and the songs can definitely have an overly clean production quality, but lyric-wise this is almost perfect. The drums and guitars are VW's best, too. I'm gonna have to agree with Pitchfork on this one.

easily one of the best of 2013, and a solid addition to their discography. i'm indifferent towards some tracks, but i have yet to hear a truly BAD vampire weekend song.

What's a nice way to turn a band down for a release? Basically I don't think I can afford what they will want to put out and it's a bit of a genre jump from what I usually put out. They're good and all, but I don't have the money for another genre is all, I don't want them to take it the wrong way.

What do you think is definitively the greatest album of the 1960's and why? If you can't pick one, list a few that you think could be argued as the top.

My choice is We're Only in it For the Money. It goes in a bunch of different and interest directions musically and yet somehow manages to bind together conceptually as satire of the generation itself. I think there are only two real arguments against it. First is that many of the tracks are short, but I think it just manages to get through a lot without overstaying its welcome. Second is that the album is so on the nose with what its saying at times, but I think Frank was just being frank in a way that his contemporaries weren't.

Since we're talking albums from the 1960s and you posted a pictures of mods on scooters I thought I would post a relevant picture.

And I'm in total agreement with you concerning Frank Zappa/Mothers of Invention and the album We're Only In It For The Money.

Honestly, if I could go back and see one band from that era live, The Who is in high consideration. A Quick One has all of these standards for fans of their later work (My Generation, Happy Jack, even Boris the Spider to a lesser extent), bizarre covers (Batman and Barbara Ann come to mind) and then whatever the fuck Cobwebs and Strange is. The only way I can describe it is as an organized train-wreck, but in the best way.
>>
>>73272084
The Who is odd, it's a complex trainwreck of modstuff that starts going in different directions and somehow just barely holds itself together and manages to channel all of those inspirations into something that has deep impact.

If I had to say the greatest album of the 60's? Probably Revolver, personally, just due to how much The Beatles basically cover all of pop and rock of that era and compress into one single album, all while maintaining a very high degree of quality.
