Why does metal have such boring melodies, chord progressions, and rhythms? It seems like it takes all of the least sophisticated and least interesting musical elements of rock/pop and puts them together. It's like shitty soda and junk food for your ears, and among the least musically satisfying genres I've ever heard.
family is coming for a party today and I'm doing the playlist. It's mostly stuff like Sam Cooke so far. Last time I played Can and killed the vibe. Suggestions?

not really, no

i find that i usually like music more if i'm in a good mood
No but it affects how much i enjoy it at that particular moment in time. Take pic related for instance, i think its a good album but i wouldn't necessarily enjoy/connect with it a whole lot if i was in a good mood and it was a sunny day outside.
>50 minute album is a double LP
>38 minute 7 track album is a double LP
>50 hour album is a single EP

I'm asking the DUDE ACID LMAO anons mainly
How many of you had a bad trip that was so bad you still experience panic attacks, or you feel that it has permanently messed you up in the head?
If it was caused by some kind of music, what was it? What are the albums you should never listen to while tripping?
The worst bad trip i had was about two weeks ago at a festival. I was stuck near the front just trying to keep my shit together. Was reggae music lol. Personally Tortoise's Millions Now Living and The Microphones Mount Eerie have helped me thru a separate bad trip...embrace the despair, and power through :)
I've dropped acid three times and it has never had a lasting impact on my life, not a positive nor a negative one.
It's just drugs man
>>73305398
That's how it should be. But you may never know what it can cause to you in the long run. LSD amplifies everything you experience, so stay safe and hydrated whenever you're doing drugs.

What does /mu/ think about music pirating/streaming?
Now, as a standalone concept, pirating is bad, that comes as a given. But, I think, that as the listener, we should have the ability to listen to music, before we decide to buy it. This is why I love labels such as Relapse Records, because they stream all of their music to all platforms including Youtube on their own channel. If an artists music is limited to only be bought, you don't really have any options besides buying or pirating, because we have the right to listen to the music before we buy it (I'm looking at you, King Crimson). That's my opinion anyways. Ofcourse, people who end up pirating and never buying music is inevitable.
Pic is obviously unrelated

>because we have the right to listen to the music before we buy it
[citation needed]
People are greedy and lazy pricks, and if you let them listen to a full album without restrictions only a few would get off their asses and take their money to buy the album.
I mean, I know a whole lot of bands I find god-tier and they would deserve every penny they get, and then I realize I've been listening to their music mainly on YouTube or downloaded from Soulseek.
ITAOTS has been one of my all-time favourite albums for years when I finally bought a physical copy.
On the other hand, downloading music is not theft, the band and label just loses one potential listener

i completely disagree. i think entering music and art into capitalist markets inherently devalues it and terms it into a commodity.

I'm gonna try it out then, thanks.
my roommate bought a piano, and I'd like to learn, but I've never played an instrument before so I'd like some lessons.
Rather than just learning song by song without knowing what my fingers are actually hitting, I'd like to learn how to read music (I know this will take a long time).
I don't want some crappy beginner tutorials, and pay a 30 dollar fee to unlock more.
Does anyone know a nice app, website or pdf file which teaches me how to play basic piano and leaves me ready to read music and practice further?
>>73304873
learning how to read music at beginner level will take you no longer than an hour
then you just get sheet music and play songs
keep doing this and then you will be able to play piano
