I'm not a Pink Floyd nut, but once every few years I get into their stuff again and I always come away with a deeper appreciation. They did psychedelic rock, soundtracks, political music, rock operas, arena ambient rock, and they did it all well. Gilmour is one of the all-time great electric guitarists. Wright blended psychedelic, bluesy, and classical influences and created some powerful passages - part IX of Shine on you Crazy Diamond is my favorite. Waters brought an often powerful songwriting inspiration, an unorthodox but well-suited vocal ability, and a political intensity that avoided simplistic leftism or rightism and struck a balance between elitism and concern for the masses. They certainly weren't perfect. For example, Waters sometimes lacked subtlety (although I think he more than made up for it in his inspired moments). But in general, great fuckin band.
Underrated albums: The Final Cut, The Division Bell
Great rarely mentioned track: Astronomy Domine (live) from Ummagumma

Another thing: when they were frightening, they were one of the most frightening rock bands of all time, with icy soundscapes and dark motifs drawn from real life - war, political struggle, class tensions, broken relationships, family problems, insanity, aging, and so on. Their lyrics have a certain genuine edge because they avoid easy optimism, and their relative lack of interest in sexuality compared to other kinds of human relationships, like friendship and enmity, means that they avoided going over ground that had already been thoroughly covered.
>bonus tracks are just live versions of the same tracks that were on the album in the first place
Better than remixes
>album has bonus tracks

How do I stop being easily impressed by "epic" elements in music? Like crescendos, 10+ minute long tracks, Song Title Part I,II,III etc.?
Appreciate this time. Go through as much as possible. Enjoy it while you can. Maybe you won't get tired of it too
Fuck I know what you mean.
Like getting chills down your spine with some powerful sounding crescendo or sudden cacophony.
Makes me feel like a pleb when it happens.
