I still love kyoani's stuff, they've written some of my favorite series.

If the pilot plot was anything to go by, Lauren was kind of a weeb. MLP already has subtle and not-so-subtle influences. I bet if she were a jap, and pitching her original ideas to an anime studio, they would've accepted most of them.

The only trade off is that they would've forced >no hooves, I'm 100% certain about this, because mainstream Japan only like anthro animals in extremely limited contexts.
