No, the adventures in FiM are approved by enitre show staff and Meghan and Lady Writers. Everything what happen in them may be referenced, developed, explored or mentioned later on in future seasons.
Everything in comics is made by whatever writer is currently handling the comic. They dont even have meet up with IDW writers so if one writer establish that Discord hates Cheerilee and forget to mention this to other writers via emails, then another writer who havent read that comic, could make next issue about Discord being shipped with Cheerilee like nothing happened.
It happens all the time with portrayal of Luna and Celestia whether she appears written by Whitley or by Anderson or Cook.
Not even mentioning that comics have no connection to FiM series. Not a single friendship bond, shipping or event in the comic will ever carry on to the show.

all the characters in EQG are just simplified, watered-down versions of their FIM selves, because the writing has to be dumbed down for the little kids.
RD can't go 3 sentences without saying "awesome", Pinkie has to screech and be SO RANDUMB XDD even moreso than usual, Applejack is even more of a southern stereotype, etc.
The only reason anyone gives two fucks about these shitty generic high school movies is because it's based on pone. If EQG was its own new franchise, it would have been dropped after the first movie because of being so painfully generic.

This, honestly. It's nice to have some decent, non-world-breaking lore for once. I rated it highly both for that, and because it showed Rarara actually exercising her cutie mark talent. Plus, all of their stories (or at least Rarity's and Dash's) linked nicely into their elements.

1) The comics aren't canon and their written by different people. Letting them affect your score for the show is not fair.
2) The campfire tied everything together and showed how the fillies were learning from the story and bonding with the adults. Not pointless at all.
3) Lots of potential lore has been added. That's not pointless.

That is to say that the comics are only canon until such a point where an event happens in the show that would otherwise contradict that canon. At which point the shows canon would overrule the canon as dictated by the comics.
That being said, the comics are kind of in this limbo state where some Anons would consider them to be canon, however a lot of Anons here would and do just flat out reject them as such.
As you directly quoted there, it's not nessarily that Hasbro thinks the comics aren't canon, it's just that they're generally considered fanfiction by a lot of the people here. That doesn't nessarily mean that they are any more or less canon in an official light, but as far as the canon of /mlp/ goes, if there is such a thing, the comics aren't considered canon in most instances.

At the end of the day, I consider it all fanfiction, because at the end of the day all of this stuff is just made by people who are fans of the franchise. In that regard the show is fanfiction too, the main difference being is that the owners of the franchise just happen to recognize it and pay the people who produce it.
Same deal with OC. Every character that has an ounce of thought put into it is someone's OC. It just so happens that the mane six are Lauren Fausts OC's and they've since been adopted by the rest of DHX's staff.
